About a 6-minute walk from Higashi-Yodogawa Station. I stopped by here today. The interior of the restaurant is mainly table seating with a counter as well, but it's a bit small with the owner's personal items displayed. The menu consists mainly of udon and rice bowl dishes. I ordered the simmered pork cutlet set. Let's dig in! The simmered pork cutlet is quite large and the sweet and savory broth is delicious. The tender cutlet is also good. The udon is a mini size but surprisingly tasty. The cold tofu side dish has bitter melon on top, which I personally like as well. So, thank you for the meal! The cheapest set is a rice bowl with egg and a mini udon. There are many affordable menu options available throughout the day, making it a convenient place to dine. However, there is no parking lot in front of the restaurant and it's a bit of a distance from the station, so most customers seem to be local residents.

There are few lunch options on the east side of JR Higashi-Yodogawa Station, especially when it comes to set meals. However, I found this udon and set meal restaurant which is quite rare in the area. The exterior looks new, but the interior has a nostalgic feel of an old-fashioned local eatery. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with table seating, counter seating, and even a tatami room in the back. The menu is extensive, offering a variety of options including udon, rice bowls, fish dishes, fried foods, curry, soba, tempura, daily specials, and more. I ordered the most popular dish, the Katsu-Nikomi set for 650 yen. It arrived in 7-8 minutes and came with a mini udon or soba on the side. The portion size for the price of 650 yen was quite generous! You can even get a free large serving, and I believe refills are also available. The pork cutlet was a good size, tender, with a flavorful broth-infused coating. The runny egg was a nice touch! The udon had a flat, hand-stretched noodle similar to kishimen, with a smooth texture that was delicious. The bonito flakes on the table added a nice touch. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided excellent service. Overall, I think this is a great restaurant with excellent food, affordable prices, and a wide selection of dishes. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I went to Awaji for work... It was past 1 PM and I was so hungry! I needed to eat something! As I was passing by a place that caught my interest on my way to our company's office in Awaji, I noticed that it had no reviews on Tabelog. I had to check it out! So, I decided to visit Marutsu-san. I checked the menu outside the restaurant and saw that they had a variety of dishes, not just udon as I initially thought. There were too many options, and I couldn't decide. So, I decided to go inside. I entered the restaurant around 1:15 PM. There was one other customer already there. A female staff member greeted me and I took a seat at an available table. I carefully looked at the menu to make my order. I was feeling like having oyakodon! And also, I wanted to try some cold udon. But, they didn't have a set with both. So, I gathered my courage and asked. "Excuse me, can I have oyakodon and cold udon as a set?" The response was that they couldn't do a mini set, but I could add the udon to the regular set for an additional 150 yen. I agreed to that! While watching a TV show with a comedian on the screen, I waited for about 6 minutes... And there it was! Oyakodon with cold udon set! The egg on the oyakodon was so creamy and delicious! The oyakodon itself had a slightly sweet and savory flavor. The chicken was just normal thigh meat. The oyakodon was really tasty. The creamy egg made me think that maybe I could have just ordered a tamagodon (egg bowl). The udon was slightly thin and flat, almost like kishimen. It wasn't chewy, but it was still good. The broth was a bit sweet, typical of Kansai style. It was fine. As I enjoyed the oyakodon, I felt like changing the flavor. I noticed a brown condiment that caught my attention. I tried a bit of it, and it was surprisingly delicious. It was like a mix of dried plum and dried fish flakes. It had bits of simmered clams in it, which added a strong umami flavor. I sprinkled a bit of it on the oyakodon and it was a flavor explosion! The sweet and savory egg, the bonito flakes, and the umami from the clams all combined perfectly. It was a completely new and delicious experience. I kept eating and finished my meal. Thank you for the delicious meal! I never expected to find such a fantastic oyakodon here! Thank you for the meal!
