"Miracle of chicken skin for 30 yen. Hirao 'Yakitori Chouja' Located near Minamikatao Station in Fukuoka City. How many years have they been in business... It feels like it could have appeared in the old Kitano Tran. When you enter, you can feel the oil on the floor with your shoes. The grilling area also has a seasoned look... The bottled beer and draft beer are Ebisu... A side dish and cabbage are automatically included. The master hands you a notebook and you order skewers... The chicken skin for 30 yen is amazing~ The pork belly (80 yen), beef tongue (100 yen), and chicken breast (80 yen) are also cheap... but they are delicious. The skin is crispy too... I also tried the chicken wings for 300 yen... The master is quite taciturn... I had sweet potatoes with hot water... The bill came to 1720 yen. Thank you for the meal.

What I realized when I first visited the store is that it's a place for regular customers only. An old man runs the place alone, so if there are many customers, you might have to wait for about an hour for each drink. On this day, I had limited time before my night shift, so I ordered a few drinks and left after 2 hours. The person next to me tried to order more but was told off, and their frustration was evident. We were all in the same boat, listening to each other's complaints. It's just how it is with the old man running the show. It's a bit of a mystery how the business stays afloat. Despite the long wait times, the prices are quite cheap, so it's a great place for those who want to hang out, chat, and have a leisurely drink.

It's amazing. When I wanted to eat yakitori, I called and 30 minutes later it was ready for pick up at the shop. The 30 yen chicken skin is also delicious. Everything is cheap, like the 200 yen pig's feet which are big and almost too good for the price. If you spend over 2000 yen, they give you an additional 30% discount, so we ordered around 30 skewers and it didn't even cost 1500 yen! It's so cheap! Three of us were satisfied with the amount of food for 1500 yen. Thank you for the meal.

In Fukuoka City, Chuo Ward, there is a place called "Yakitori Chouja" in Hirao. The sign at the entrance says "Chicken skin 30 yen"! It's so cheap, right? Customers write down what they want to eat in a notebook to place their order. The prices are very affordable, like sand gizzard (70 yen), chicken breast, liver, ear, pork belly, chicken tenderloin, pork heart (all 80 yen each), tongue cartilage (100 yen), pig's feet (200 yen), and more. Takeout orders over 2,000 yen get a 30% discount, which is surprising! A bottle of beer costs 550 yen, but they have Ebisu beer which shows a bit of their commitment to quality. A 4-cup bottle of shochu is only 1,000 yen, but it expires in 2 months. The owner mutters to himself while grilling, saying "Alright...Alright." The taste is... as expected, it's just okay. The only dishes worth reordering were sand gizzard and pork heart. I chatted with a regular customer I met for the first time while enjoying the food, but the pig's feet were burnt as they had warned me beforehand.

This day was a Saturday weekend. Just before it was about to turn into Sunday, the "Chouja" (wealthy person) arrived at this place. Upon entering the store, there were only two customers sitting in pairs. It seems that the number of customers decreases at this time. Well then, let's enjoy some yakitori skewers and gulp down some shochu. So, I ordered a bottle of Kuro Kirishima shochu. However, I was told, "You can't keep it." Even though there were many bottles available for keeping right in front of me. So I said, "Then I'll take it home!" and received the bottle with a water set. Surprisingly, the bottle cost 1000 yen (apparently...). This shop has a cool atmosphere, with lanterns used for lighting inside. The background music playing was by Julie, like a scene from the Showa era. Now, here are the yakitori skewers I had as appetizers: - Pork belly 80 yen x 2 = 160 yen - Squid legs 100 yen x 2 = 200 yen - Quail eggs 130 yen x 2 = 260 yen - Chicken skin 30 yen x 2 = 60 yen - Chicken thigh 80 yen x 1 = 80 yen The total for the yakitori skewers was 760 yen. By the way, there was a small container labeled "Sansho powder" in front of me, so I sprinkled it on the pork belly thinking it was rare, but it turned out to be "Ichimi"... Well, Ichimi is fine too. The bill came out to be 2660 yen. I paid and left, but I felt it was a bit too much, so I calculated and found a discrepancy of 900 yen. It's unclear whether they charged for the appetizer (cabbage) or the water set. Shochu for 1000 yen a bottle! Chicken skin for 30 yen! Cheap! But it's far from being a place I would want to visit again... That was the kind of place it was. Thank you for the meal~.

I have been curious about Chouja for a while now! The atmosphere is already amazing just from the outside. A friend of mine who had been to Chouja about 10 years ago told me that the chicken skin is only 30 yen! That really piqued my interest! However, with work and household chores keeping me busy, I don't have much time to dine in at the restaurant. So, I decided to get takeout instead. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that if your takeout order exceeds 2000 yen, they give you an additional discount. The sauce smelled really good as I excitedly brought the food home. As for the taste... hmm... it was decent for the price. I did notice that the meat was a bit dry overall, but considering how cheap it was, I can't complain. It was a taste that matched the price. That's my conclusion. However, it's so cheap that it might come in handy when you're short on cash!

Yakitori restaurant located near Hirao Station and Hyakunenbashi Street on the side closer to the elevated tracks. The friendly master chef is skillfully working in the kitchen. Chicken skin skewers are 30 yen each. Other items range from 70 to 100 yen, making it affordable.

During last night's Maison de Chat meeting, the artist issued a challenge for two recommended restaurants. One of them had a car and headed to Hirao Station. Along the way, they took shelter in a pachinko parlor due to rain. After an unsuccessful streak of luck, they continued towards Hyakunenbashi Street from the Hirao intersection. Ah, there is a large lantern hanging outside the restaurant. The only prior information was about a "pleasant aroma" inside the restaurant. According to a Fukuoka gourmet guide, the restaurant is managed by an elderly landlady and staff, and the food is not very juicy due to the strong flame used for grilling. It may not be suitable for a date, but recommended for other occasions. Let's go inside and check it out.
---
Upon entering, the lively master chef greeted us from the grilling area. The restaurant had an aged interior, but thankfully, there was no noticeable aroma. We ordered a beer at the counter, and the master chef brought a notebook for us to write our orders. We selected items like chicken skin (30 yen), gizzard and cartilage (each 70 yen), breast meat and chicken liver (each 80 yen), chicken tail and beef tendon (each 100 yen), parmesan cheese (150 yen), and Shanghai sausage (380 yen). The master chef checked the notebook and picked out the corresponding skewers. The grilling area had a mysterious pot of secret sauce and a mysterious pot.

Each skewer was served with a generous amount of sauce and cabbage on the side. The first skewers were beef tendon and cartilage. They were cooked perfectly. I was initially worried about the texture of the liver, but it turned out to be tender and juicy. The portions were small but satisfying. I noticed a sign on the wall for "Heart Leftover 80 yen," which was a small amount of meat below the heart. It was surprisingly delicious. I then ordered a "Rehabilitation Bowl," a mysterious bowl that arrived promptly. It was a small bowl or rather a large soup bowl with natto and a broken boiled egg. The natto was sticky, almost like rice left in a rice cooker for 72 hours. This may depend on timing, but I would recommend sticking to alcohol and grilled skewers. There was also a "Moe Omelette" on the menu, but I decided to skip it.

Cuisine and Atmosphere: A family-run yakitori restaurant near Hirao Station with a homey and warm atmosphere. The yakitori is made with classic ingredients, and while the size is average, the cartilage is large and tough, making it a bit of a challenge to eat. Pork belly is a must-have! It's more of a place to snack and have a few drinks rather than a full meal. By the way, it seems that it's common in Fukuoka for yakitori restaurants to serve cabbage with ponzu sauce, but it's rare nationwide. Thank you Yakitori Chojasan for the meal!

I finally went to the yakitori restaurant at Hirao Station that I had been curious about. The selling point is the bottle for 1000 yen and the chicken skin for 30 yen. We started with a toast with bottled beer, which cost 550 yen for Ebisu beer, so it's definitely an affordable place. We were served daikon pickles as an appetizer, which came in a yellowish pickling liquid and was a bit intimidating to eat. We then ordered the bottle and slowly enjoyed the skewers, which were honestly delicious. The quality of the rolled skewers, especially, was top-notch and highly recommended for 150 yen. We also tried a few items from the a la carte menu, but I wouldn't recommend them as they tend to get burnt on the grill rather than cooked properly. Overall, it's a fun place to go with male friends, but I wouldn't recommend it for women due to the traditional Japanese-style toilets and hygiene concerns. It's a great value for men or solo drinkers though!

The store has maintained its prices since its opening (giving off a nostalgic feel) and is surprisingly cheap at 30 yen! Other grilled dishes also have prices from the Showa era, with the same atmosphere in the store! The background music playing in the store is also Showa-era J-pop! It may not be amazing, but it's definitely not bad either! It's a very cost-effective restaurant! I was shocked to find out that you can keep a bottle of shochu for only 1,000 yen! I ended up spending over 3,000 yen because I ate too much, but normally, around 2,000 yen would be more than enough. Many customers were taking food to go, and I noticed there was a 20% or 10% discount on takeout orders! I'll try taking food home next time.

I visit this restaurant every few years. To be honest, it doesn't feel very clean. However, the atmosphere is super retro, like a yakitori restaurant in Shinbashi. The customers are mostly older men, and there is only counter seating, but it can get crowded depending on the day. The area near Hirao is seeing new restaurants opening up, but I hope this place continues to survive for a long time.

One of my current favorite yakitori restaurants is "Chouja". The prices are still like the Showa era, very affordable! Yakitori starts at just 30 yen for chicken skin (lol) and keep bottles of shochu are only 1000 yen (lol). The prices are incredibly low, and I am very satisfied with both my stomach and my level of intoxication (〃^ー^〃). The owner runs the place alone, so the service, speed, and drink selection may not be the best, but considering the charcoal grilling and the low prices, I think it's delicious. However, the salted tail skewers are highly recommended (^〇^). It's a bit tricky to eat because of the small bones, but that just makes you want to drink moreヽ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
