I ran into the president after a long time, so I went to the restaurant. As expected, everything was delicious. The president's humor was as entertaining as ever, making for a fun evening of drinks and food. There is a bar on the second floor, which I didn't know about. I would like to use it again. 8 seats! It was delicious!

I used to avoid this restaurant because it was hard to make a reservation, but this time I was able to book easily so I visited after a long time. Usually, I would be seated at the back, but this time I got a table at the front for the first time. Both seating areas have a charming Kyoto-style atmosphere. I ordered the course menu on this day. Despite being a bit short on time, the dishes were served at a good pace, and I was very satisfied. The course included appetizers (simmered daikon and yellowtail), clear soup with bamboo shoots and rapeseed blossoms, sashimi, grilled fish, tempura (could have been crispier), chirimen rice, miso soup, pickles, warabi mochi, and tempura. Apart from the tempura, everything was delicious. I think it's a place that would be appreciated by those from outside Kyoto. Personally, I consider it a high-end izakaya.

The best Kyoto kaiseki! I used to visit the Tokyo branch in the Ginza Kojun Building regularly, even though it was located in Ginza, you could enjoy authentic Kyoto kaiseki courses for around 5000 to 8000 yen. Unfortunately, it closed down about 1-2 years ago, so whenever I went to Kyoto, I always planned to visit the main branch in Gion. Finally, my wish came true on this Kyoto trip, and I was able to reunite with the taste of Yata! This time, I ordered the 8000 yen course with conger eel, and I was amazed at how the eel was featured throughout the course. The flavors were simple yet incredibly rich, making it the best Kyoto kaiseki I've ever had. I will definitely come back to Gion again!

Rumors were swirling that the bartender who used to work there had returned. I decided to visit and was greeted by a young hostess in traditional Japanese attire. I mentioned that I was there for the bar, not for a meal, and was asked to wait. To my surprise, the bartender I remembered from before appeared to welcome me with a smile. The antique decorations that used to adorn the counter were gone, giving the place a more streamlined look. I ordered a glass of red Bordeaux wine, which was rich and full-bodied. Despite the limited selection of wines by the glass, the bar had a good variety overall. I enjoyed catching up with the bartender over drinks and reminiscing about the past. After a pleasant time, I mentioned that I planned to continue my bar-hopping adventure that night and bid farewell to the establishment.

After having a drink before the meal, I moved to the 1st floor. We ordered a la carte dishes, and there were many Kyoto-style dishes that were delicious!

This is truly THE Kyoto's traditional restaurant! I was invited by a senior to visit Hachitama. The atmosphere is amazing. The flowers are beautifully arranged, and the chefs are working diligently in front of us. We had a course meal on this day, and each dish was carefully prepared. The alcohol was flowing, and I ended up drinking too much. I want to bring someone special next time! Thank you for the wonderful meal.

You can sit comfortably at the L-shaped counter and order a la carte. My favorite is the broccoli and shrimp mayo salad, which I've been enjoying for over 10 years. The grilled aburaage is cooked on a shichirin charcoal grill, making the process enjoyable and the dish delicious. The bar on the second floor is convenient as you can easily move there if there are empty seats.

I went to Yata-san. Yata-san is a place I like to go when I want to eat casually with friends. The location and atmosphere of the restaurant are nice, and the food is reasonably delicious. The prices are also affordable, making it a great place for a quick meal. However, there has been a significant turnover in staff this year, so the service may not be as good as before. Nevertheless, the quality of the food remains consistent, which is reassuring. It's a convenient place to go when you want a simple and easy dining experience. My favorite dish on the current menu is the broccoli and shrimp with mayonnaise stir-fry. The broccoli and shrimp are fried first before being stir-fried with mayonnaise, creating a delicious combination. I ended up getting three helpings of it (laughs). The seasonal sashimi and other dishes are also tasty. It's recommended to make a reservation before going. I'll definitely be back before the broccoli dish is removed from the menu!

It was a place where you could enjoy just drinks and appetizers, and it was very convenient. However, at some point, they switched to offering only set courses. Since I always used to enjoy ordering à la carte, I started to visit less frequently. Recently, I went there for a celebratory occasion, and while the food was okay, the drink options were limited and the friendly service I remembered was nowhere to be found. I wonder if there has been a change in management? I heard that their lovely second-floor bar has closed due to the pandemic as well. They used to have a special dried fish snack that I liked to buy as a souvenir, but it might not be available anymore. It's a shame because the location was great for bringing guests from the Kanto region, but now it's very disappointing.
