Located in the Japanese confectionery area on the B1 floor of Nihonbashi Takashimaya main store, this shop is the main store from Nagasaki, known for its castella and Dutch cakes. The shop's cube castella is the perfect size for when you want to enjoy it on your own. Currently, it comes in a box with a morning glory design. Inside the elegant morning glory pattern are two familiar pieces of castella. The rich yellow color emits a sweet aroma. The castella has a dense texture and is delicious! The cube size helps prevent overeating (lol). I wonder if the packaging will change to a more autumn-like design next month (*^^*). I look forward to buying some castella again when I crave a snack!

Visited Fukusaya at Takashimaya Nihonbashi store, directly connected to Nihonbashi Station. Arrived around 1pm on Saturday and there was no wait. Was able to pay smoothly. Bought Fukusaya Cube for 270 yen. The yellow packaging is nice! The castella cake is fluffy and moist, very delicious. Enjoyed it until the last bite.

I received a special edition Go-San-yaki castella from Fukusaya. It is more flavorful and rich than regular castella, made with a lot of sugar, invert sugar, and eggs, and less flour. It requires advanced skills of seasoned craftsmen and is made using a traditional family method that cannot be mass-produced. It is cut into 10 easy-to-eat pieces and has 151kcal per piece. The color is darker and the sweetness is stronger than regular castella, almost overwhelmingly sweet. It costs 2,916 yen for a box, which is double the price of a regular box.

I bought a perfect souvenir for my friend at Fukusaya in Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi. It's a type of castella cake with sugar crystals at the bottom, which is irresistible for those who love it. The box is cute, a small square box with two pieces of cut castella inside, just the right size. I would like to buy it for myself next time.

First visit in May 2020 (No.1726) In my neighborhood, the essential item I need for work was sold out last time I went out, so I had to go to Tokyo again to find it. In Nagasaki, known as the holy land of castella, people are divided into two factions: Bunmeido and Fukusaya. As a Fukusaya supporter, I visited Fukusaya, which reopened its business following the lifting of the emergency declaration for COVID-19. Fukusaya, founded in 1624, is a long-established castella shop. On the other hand, Bunmeido, founded in 1900, may not have as long a history as Fukusaya, but it is probably the most famous castella shop in Japan thanks to its famous commercial jingle. I purchased a small piece of castella (60x280x64mm) for 1188 yen. While I am aware that their premium Gomisen-yaki castella is delicious, the size is quite large (96x285x66mm). I have been buying takeout sweets continuously lately, so my house is stocked with sweets that are nearing their expiration date. I bought the smaller product mentioned above to reduce the quantity. It may not be as good as the premium Gomisen-yaki, but it is definitely a delicious castella. Thank you for the meal.
