Above JR Tennoji Station, there is a complex building called Tennoji Mio Plaza building. The 10th and 11th floors of Mio's main building and the 4th floor of the Plaza building are dedicated to a restaurant area. The 4th floor of the Plaza building is especially convenient as it is just a short escalator ride up from the Tennoji pedestrian bridge. I decided to have lunch at a new Hokkaido cuisine restaurant that was supposed to open on April 27, 2021, but due to the state of emergency, it was delayed until June 22, almost two months later. The restaurant is operated by a company called Kobayashi Shokuhin, which also operates "Hokkaido Taste of the North Hokkaido Tennoji mio branch" on the 10th floor of Tennoji Mio main building. The interior of the restaurant is open and spacious, with around 30 table seats. The lunch menu mainly consists of Hokkaido seafood dishes such as salmon gratin, salmon sashimi rice bowl, croquette set meal, and herring set meal. I ordered the "Crab Chirashi Set Meal" (1,100 yen). It took a little while for the dish to be served, and when it arrived, it was presented on a tray with a crab chirashi sushi bento box, a side dish of dried daikon radish, and miso soup. When I opened the bento box, I saw crab meat scattered all over the rice, with crab legs placed on top. The chirashi sushi also contained thinly sliced lotus root, shredded omelette, snow peas, and sweet vinegar ginger. However, the vinegar flavor in the rice was lacking, and the crab flavor did not stand out. The vinegar was not mixed well with the rice, and the crab meat seemed bland. The most flavorful part of the sushi was the sweet vinegar ginger. The side dish of dried daikon radish was decent, and the miso soup was a red miso soup, which seemed more suitable for a seafood bowl than chirashi sushi. Overall, I was disappointed with my choice of dish. I couldn't help but wonder why there was a lack of Hokkaido essence in a restaurant that boasts about its seafood from Hokkaido, then I realized that the name of the restaurant "Furano" is actually inland.
