This is Tsurui Village. After visiting "Tsuruboo no Ie," we came here. Tsurui is famous for its red-crowned cranes and is also known for its dairy farming. Here, we process locally sourced high-quality fresh milk into dairy products for sale. The dairy products workshop "Rakurakan" has a quiet atmosphere, not like a typical shopping experience. It feels more like an experiential facility. Although it is a small space, they sell cheese. The lady in the office came out to the hall and provided samples of four types of cheese with detailed explanations. After sampling, we bought two types of cheese: "Tsurui Gold Label" (100g for 618 yen), which is the only cheese aged for over 6 months and had the best texture, and "Lire Lui Cheese" (100g for 541 yen), which is aged for over 90 days and has a subtle saltiness and a delicate flavor of fresh milk. Both cheeses were delicious. The lady in the office was very kind and helpful. Thank you for your time!

I went all the way to Tsurui Village on a regular day. I came for lunch, but after some twists and turns, I finally found a place to eat. After all the effort to get here, I decided to fully enjoy Tsurui Village! So, I thought I'd have some soft serve ice cream. I picked a few options and ended up at this place I was curious about. It's located along Route 53 in Tsurui Village, near a CVS Seicomart. The building is impressive and easy to spot as you head towards the wetlands. The staff was welcoming and the place was clean and well-maintained. They offer a variety of cheeses for tasting and purchasing, as well as ice cream. I tried the "Gift of Milk" ice cream, which was rich and flavorful. The milk flavor was very pronounced and delicious. I also wanted to try the vanilla flavor, but maybe next time. The cheese also looked tempting, so I might have to come back for that. Overall, it was a great experience. Thank you for the meal.

The day after staying at Kawatabi Onsen, we saw swans at Lake Kussharo and red-crowned cranes in Tsurui Village. Next to the "Sekiyo Ito Tanchosanctuary" is a building that is more impressive than the sanctuary, called Rakuraku-kan (with a factory). Inside the bright and beautiful building, there are small showcases with various cheeses. The samples are quite generous, allowing you to try any of them. My husband chose Leletzruy from the three samples he tried. I opted for the drinking yogurt, similar to Takahashi Farm's yogurt, with a rich acidity and sweetness. Although I'm not a fan of cheese, my husband enjoyed the light and delicious taste. However, he was disappointed to find a hardened salt part in the cheese, which was probably just a one-off occurrence. What stood out the most was the excellent customer service. Despite being in a small village far from the city, the service was fantastic. We were even given information about the next place we planned to visit, the "Sekiyo Tanchou Plaza - Tsuruboo House." After getting back in the car, I mentioned how great the service was, to which my husband replied, "It's probably because they're not Hokkaido natives," Ah, I see! Even if good customer service is not from a local, I still appreciate it. Encountering such warm hospitality in the countryside makes me want to visit again. For those who love cheese, I recommend buying plenty here.

This is a souvenir from Hokkaido, consisting of a set of four different types of cheeses, each weighing about 50g.
- Tsurui Mild Label: Surprisingly delicious, similar to a young Comté cheese, which I really enjoyed. I was impressed from the start and wondered how it could get any better.
- Tsurui Pepper Cheese: A strong saltiness followed by a rich and mellow taste, reminiscent of Gouda. The black pepper flavor from the whole peppercorns is not as pronounced as expected, but the cheese itself has a clear taste, providing a satisfying experience.
- Riretsuru Cheese: Looks fantastic! I had high expectations for this one, but it turned out to be milder than I had hoped. I was expecting a slightly more Mimolette-like flavor. It's not as hard as I thought and has a mild taste. It lacked the impact I was anticipating due to my high expectations.
- Tsurui Silver Label: Hmm, it has a scent similar to my favorite washed rind cheeses! The rind has an orange color but isn't too sticky, making it easy to handle. The hardness is similar to processed cheese. The balance of saltiness and sweetness is exquisite. It has a flavor profile similar to a hard washed rind cheese. This one is absolutely delicious!
Cheese really does provide various surprises in terms of hardness and aroma. It's truly a miracle that these cheeses are made only from milk and salt. Grateful to the land, air, cheese artisans, cows, and people of Hokkaido!

Located in eastern Hokkaido, Tsurui Village is known for its beautiful name and elegant cheese. Operated by the Tsurui Village Development Corporation, the facility boasts a natural cheese factory. Each cheese is made from the pure ingredients of the northern land, wind, and cows, resulting in a genuine cheese flavor. Moreover, the fact that it is made from domestic dairy products adds a sense of reassurance.

In October 2020, I attended the "Hospitality Fair for Food and Tourism" for the first time. It was a joint event organized by the towns of Shimamaki, Teshikaga, and Tsurui. The event took place in the underground walkway in Sapporo. I had to visit a hospital near Sapporo Station North Exit for a check-up, so I rode my bike to the station. My family asked me to buy some milk, but they were out of milk, so I had to buy yogurt instead. I bought a "Milk Gift" yogurt for 150 yen. The yogurt had a mild acidity and a subtle sweetness, making it easy to drink. When you think of Tsurui Village, you think of the sanctuary for the red-crowned cranes. I have only been there once, but seeing the red-crowned cranes fly up close is truly beautiful. As the weather in Eastern Hokkaido gets colder, I would like to take my time to explore the region.

Today, I purchased cheese produced in Tsurui Village in the eastern part of Hokkaido. This cheese is domestically made and has even won top prizes in taste tests. The one I bought is the Silver Label, but I heard the Gold Label is the one that won the top prize. I remember it being delicious when I sampled it before, so I am looking forward to trying this exceptional product.

I received a silver-labeled handmade natural cheese called "Tsurui." The package states that it won the Director General's Award from the Livestock Industry Promotion Organization. The only ingredients listed are "milk, salt," showing their dedication. It was a great match with wine.

I'm heading to Kushiro after a long time. Today, I chose the Tsurui route on my navigation. I didn't expect to find a place to stop at Tsurui, but I did. There is the "Tsuruiboo Plaza Tsuruboo House" where local products are sold. Tsurui Village is a dairy farming town, right? I saw some cheese, so I bought it. I've been eating mostly blue cheese lately, so this kind of cheese feels fresh. It's expensive though, 618 yen for 100 grams. It looks like a typical cheese and the low salt content is nice. It said it's aged for 12 months at the "Rakuraku-kan". When I tried it, it had a distinctive taste and you could feel the aging. It's good, isn't it? I'll have it with wine instead of beer.
