While I was in Shinjuku, I stopped by Odakyu Department Store B2F and bought some castella at Fukusaya. The store is located in the traditional Japanese sweets section. My favorite is the small castella in a colorful box, perfect for a single serving. The name "Cube Castella" and the colorful packaging are very stylish. The castella has a rich color and is sweet. It is topped with coarse sugar at the bottom. It has a moist and fluffy texture, and is delicious. It's a great place to easily buy a treat for yourself in the basement sweets section of the department store.

The other day, I came here to buy this castella to give as a present to my colleague. This is "Fukusaya Odakyu Shinjuku Store". The store is located on the 2nd floor of the basement of Shinjuku Odakyu Department Store. Fukusaya is a famous long-established store of Nagasaki castella. In the Kanto region, maybe it's because of the power of commercials? I also had the image of Bunmeido when it comes to castella until I tried Fukusaya's castella once and it was delicious. Recently, if I were to buy it for myself, Fukusaya is definitely better than Bunmeido (laughs). To briefly touch on Fukusaya's history, it is a very old store established in the first year of Kan'ei (1624). This is the early Edo period... In Nagasaki, the Shimabara Rebellion was in 1637, so they have been around before that... (sweat). Amazing history. Now, I purchased a large one as a gift, but for myself, I bought the Fukusaya Cube. Fukusaya Cube 1 piece 270 yen x 3. It has a beautiful appearance and seems to be a nice gift. I have received it as a souvenir from a child from Nagasaki, who loves this castella very much. So happy♪ Now, about Fukusaya Cube, this castella has a colorful appearance, but all the flavors are the same (laughs). I think it's just a difference in appearance. I personally think the taste is rich and delicious, with a fluffy texture and a strong egg flavor. Personally, it's rich and delicious. And the coarse sugar on top! This is also delicious... No matter how many times I eat it, Fukusaya's castella is delicious. And each cube comes with a foldable fork inside! The staff is polite as it is a department store. They put it in a bag neatly and pointed out the shelf life. I think it won't last more than about 3 days. That's inevitable for castella. Credit cards are also accepted. Thank you for the meal. Fukusaya's castella. It's a waste if you haven't tried it. It's delicious, so please try it. I recommend this place♪

It's very appreciated to be able to buy Fukusaya's castella in Tokyo. Among the overly sweet castellas out there, Fukusaya's stands out with its subtle egg flavor. I will carefully compare and consider why it has such a good flavor.

Since I was a guest, I brought a gift. The cubes look nice and are already cut, making them easy to eat.

On the last day of work before the 28th, on my way home, I went to Odakyu Department Store to buy Fukusaya's castella for New Year's. Last year, MyRebi-san mentioned that the cube here is delicious, but I had never tried it before (T . T). Finally, I bought it. However, the cube was sold out and so was the Goyamayaki. They said they will have some in the morning tomorrow. But I thought I won't come back for a while. So, I bought the regular type of castella, which was the most convenient. It came in a fancy package, and the taste was more than enough! It was very moist with plenty of caramelized sugar at the bottom. It was sweet and delicious! Truly a product from Fukusaya (T . T). The cube and Goyamayaki are probably even better than this. I will definitely buy them next time! With this quality and price, one piece is rich in flavor! I am satisfied and full! For gifts, Goyamayaki is recommended, but I would be happy to receive this one too! MyRebi-san, thank you very much (m(_ _)m). YEBESU White Beer also went well with it (lol). Please try it out! ===========

"Fukusaya," a highly famous and long-established brand of Nagasaki Castella. Along with Bunmeido, they have a nationwide presence. However, Fukusaya was founded much earlier than Bunmeido, in the first year of Kan'ei (1624). With only a short time passing since the Battle of Sekigahara, it is a brand with a long history. Many long-established brands tend to become complacent and decline, but Fukusaya seems to have avoided such rumors. In terms of Castella, the harsh critics of Nagasaki say, "The taste is Matsuwokoen, the name is Bunmeido. Fukusaya has both." This is just my personal research, so take it with a grain of salt. I purchased the products at the Shinjuku Odakyu store, but the products are generally the same no matter where you buy them. They offer Castella, Dutch Cake, and the unique 5-3 style Castella. In addition, they have Fukusaya Cubes, which are Castella cut into cube shapes. The cute appearance makes it a perfect gift, so lately many people seem to be purchasing Fukusaya Cubes. For my personal consumption, I bought the 0.6 size Castella and Dutch Cake. Here is what I ate: - Castella: It is pre-cut into 10 pieces for easy sharing. The fluffy yellow dough looks like it has a strong egg flavor. In reality, it does have a significant egg taste, but what stands out more is the generous amount of coarse sugar sprinkled on the bottom. The combination of moist and dense Castella dough with crunchy small sugar crystals is excellent. The refined sweetness of the Castella paired with the sweet sugar crystals is the ultimate combination. - Dutch Cake: The rich sweetness of the cocoa-infused dough in the Castella. Topped with walnuts and raisins. The raisins add a nice accent. Although it is primarily Castella, it does not have sugar crystals like the Castella. It has a slightly different flavor due to the cocoa. This was my first time trying the Dutch Cake, and it was also delicious, but Castella is still the best at Fukusaya! Thank you for the meal!"

I had my first taste of this castella cake 20 years ago when I received it as a gift from someone in Nagasaki. It was so delicious that I have been going back for more, both for myself and as gifts. This time, I bought a half-sized castella cake for 840 yen. It was carefully packaged and already cut into 10 pieces, making it easy to enjoy. The moist and sweet yellow castella cake reminded me of a scene from a children's book. I especially love the sprinkling of sugar crystals on top. Castella cake with sugar crystals and milk is the best combination. I will definitely continue to be a customer in the future.

I have not visited the shop myself, so I have rated everything except the taste as 2.5. I received it as a souvenir. It seems to be a castella shop in Nagasaki. Two slices are packed in a colorful box, which looks quite vibrant! The castella wrapped in white paper looks fluffy and soft. When you eat it, it is quite moist. It has an eggy flavor and melts softly. Also, it has a moderate crunchiness with few coarse grains and no unpleasant sweetness. You can eat as much as you want. This castella, which is gentle on the body without any unnecessary ingredients, is a snack that everyone will enjoy.

I went to Fukusaya located on the second basement floor of Odakyu Shinjuku Store. They sell traditional Japanese sweets and regional snacks. I was asked to buy Raiokoshi when I visited Shinjuku, and I found it at this store, so I stopped by to buy it. I bought small packets of Raiokoshi. The food floor at Odakyu Shinjuku Store was crowded and the aisles were narrow, making it difficult to shop. This store also sells regional Japanese sweets, and I was surprised to see they had Wakakusa, which I had bought in the San'in region (probably Tottori Prefecture) before. It might be a good store for those who need to buy souvenirs.

I received this as a gift, so I will refrain from commenting on anything other than the taste. I tried Fukusaya's cube for the first time. The castella cake is a strong yellow color, with a pronounced egg flavor and a moist texture. The bottom's caramelized sugar is just sweet enough. With the trend towards international and innovative sweets, the choice of castella as a gift may be limited. However, this product has a colorful package, making it appealing to a younger audience who can easily enjoy castella.
