Hello ( ̄Д ̄)ノ I had delicious curry at a location with a beautiful view near the Uji River, but unfortunately, the portion was a bit small for me as a growing teenager. On my way back, I decided to visit Fukunaga, a Chinese noodle specialty shop in Kyoto (291-3 Kuse Higashi Tsuchikawa-cho, Minami-ku, Kyoto City). I had seen an interesting dish on YouTube that I wanted to try. I parked my bike next to the shop and sat at one of the available counter seats. I ordered the meaty fried rice that I had seen on YouTube, opting for the large size with an additional 150 yen. The waitress confirmed the order and soon brought out the dish. The Char Siu fried rice (large size) for 1150 yen arrived, and it looked very appetizing with the generous amount of pork belly Char Siu on top of the dark fried rice. It was garnished with white leeks, black pepper sauce, finely chopped pickled ginger, and mustard greens. I dug in and it was incredibly delicious. The well-seasoned fried rice paired perfectly with the sweet pork Char Siu, the bitterness of the white leeks, and the flavor-enhancing black pepper sauce. I couldn't stop eating it. The hot soup that came with it, topped with leeks and a sprinkle of pepper, was also delightful. I got completely absorbed in eating the fried rice. This was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had! I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal! PS If someone asks for a recommendation for fried rice in Kyoto, I would suggest Fukunaga or Tanukiya. Their fried rice dishes leave a strong impression due to their exceptional taste. (´-ω-)ウム

I used to come to this restaurant before, but I suddenly felt like eating here again. I ordered almost the same as before: Char siu fried rice, a bottle of beer, just a little less sauce, extra pickled radish, and called it. The food was served quickly as usual. The pickled radish and extra radish came as requested. The soup also arrived at the same time. First, the fried rice - it's really delicious! \(^o^)/ With shredded green onions, char siu, and extra radish, it's amazing!! The beer goes down smoothly, perfect for a Saturday night! The soup is also delicious, with plenty of char siu in it! This time, I had no complaints about the rice grains. Maybe last time was just a fluke. The portion is large, but it's so tasty that I just keep eating. I probably won't be hungry until dinner. I actually planned to add some raw garlic if it was on the table, but since it wasn't there, I just ate it as is. Even without it, I'm completely satisfied. This kind of "junk" food is so good that it makes me wonder if there's anything else like it. It's perfectly suited to my taste! If I had known about this 20-30 years ago, I might have become addicted. Now that I'm already an old man, it seems like indulging in this kind of food occasionally might be a good idea. It was really delicious.

On a regular day, I visited the restaurant for lunch, waited a little in line, entered the store, and ordered ramen. I waited at the counter seat for about 5 minutes, and when the ramen arrived, the aroma of the black soy sauce soup stimulated my appetite. Among the black ramen I have tried before, this one had the strongest punch of soy sauce, but it paired perfectly with the rice. It was delicious.

Nice to meet you. I ordered the fried rice set meal and a single piece of fried chicken. The fried rice had a strong soy sauce flavor with a hint of pickled ginger as an accent. It was not dry but slightly moist. The ramen had firm noodles with a good chew, and the soy sauce broth was rich. The amount of pork slices, bamboo shoots, and green onions seemed appropriate. Lastly, the fried chicken was large in size with a strong garlic and soy sauce flavor. While the taste was delicious, it was a bit tough and dry. Since the restaurant is far from my home, I will visit again if I have a reason to be in the area.

Yesterday, I checked for any damage to the company caused by the typhoon, then went to Yakouken near Kyoto Racecourse, but it was closed. I was in a dilemma, but then I found Fukunaga nearby. It took about 10 minutes by car to get there. Even though it was only 10:45, there was already a line forming, everyone is so fast! I waited in line for about 15 minutes and ordered the special grilled pork set meal. First, the grilled pork and rice were served. The grilled pork was slightly warmed and came with bean sprouts and green onions on the side. The pork was tender with just the right amount of fat, very delicious. The ramen was the black version. The soup was rich and flavorful, I can see why it's popular. The noodles were slightly thick and cooked perfectly. It's a bit pricey at 1,300 yen, but I was personally satisfied with the quality. Around 11:30 am on a regular day, the parking lot in front of the visited restaurant was full, but I was able to find a spot right as someone was leaving. I entered the restaurant quickly, and although it was full, the turnover was fast so the wait time wasn't too long. I ordered the fried rice set first, and when it arrived, the soy sauce aroma was appetizing. The fried rice was delicious and exactly to my liking. Next, I had the Chinese noodles. The medium-thick straight noodles held the soup well and had a good flavor. The char siu (roasted pork) came in four slices, which was quite a generous portion. Any more food would have made me too full. They also had a variety of summer limited menus, rice dishes, and appetizers available.

"Chahan set meal" for 1,200 yen. I visited this place that had a 2023.7BM rating. I parked my car at the coin parking lot across the street and arrived a little after 12 pm. The restaurant was almost full, but I managed to find a seat at the counter. The atmosphere inside was very lively. The aroma of the fried rice filled the restaurant. I was looking forward to eating the fried rice, so my excitement was high. Soon after, the dish arrived. It had a generous portion of pork belly slices, menma, and green onions. The soup had a deep black color, and it was clear that it was from Shinpukusai-kan just by looking at it. Let's dig in! First, the soup... as expected, it was a sharp soy sauce flavor with plenty of oil, giving it a junky but delicious taste. Adding the chili garlic from the table enhanced the flavor even more. The crunchy texture and aroma of the green onions were also great. The noodles were medium thickness and soaked in the soy sauce broth, with a chewy and delicious texture. They didn't have a strong bite or exceptional smoothness, but they paired perfectly with the soup. The pork belly slices were plentiful and although fatty, they were incredibly tasty when combined with the soup. Although I felt like having white rice, this time I had fried rice. It had the same strong soy sauce flavor, and I wished there was grated garlic to add on top. Overall, it was a delicious bowl as expected. I parked my car at the coin parking in front of the shop and entered to find it bustling with many customers. I found a vacant counter seat and decided to order the "Chuka Soba" (Chinese noodles) that I had tried when the shop first opened, with extra green onions. The bowl was topped with plenty of green onions, hiding slices of char siu (roast pork) and bamboo shoots underneath. The pork bone-based clear broth had a mild saltiness but a rich soy sauce flavor with a hint of acidity and plenty of oil, giving the broth a rich depth of flavor. The noodles were firm and thin, cooked al dente, gradually becoming chewy as they soaked up the soup. The bamboo shoots had a crunchy texture, and the sliced char siu was generously used, with a good balance of meat and fat. It was a delicious Chuka Soba with a strong soy sauce flavor that hits you, made by the owner who used to work at Shinpukusai.

I have become an old man and can no longer eat ramen and fried rice sets. I knew that the owner of this shop used to work at that other shop, so I could imagine what the fried rice would be like. But what is "chashu fried rice" exactly? I decided to give it a try. I ordered "chashu fried rice and a large bottle of beer," strong style! I placed my order, went to wash my hands, and before I knew it, it was already served in just 5 minutes. Fast! The presentation was impressive. It was a generous portion. There was plenty of my favorite pickled ginger. I was happy! There was also pickled radish, but I wonder how that will taste? (^^; But the white hair leeks and plenty of chashu were great! Underneath it all was the fried rice. My first impression in one word: "Delicious!!" The taste and amount of chashu, the pickled ginger's accent, the presence of leeks, the balance was wonderful. The soup arrived a bit late, but it was the same as the other shop's soup, the base for the ramen. It had a slight tanginess that went well with the fried rice. It's a delight when this soup is served! (^^v The only downside would be the taste of the rice itself. Both the shop owner's fried rice and the other shop's fried rice, which has a good reputation, probably don't use "good rice." The taste of the rice alone doesn't quite pass the mark. However, the seasoning is good, so it's forgivable. As I chewed and savored it, some rice grains were less likely to break. The texture was firm rather than fluffy, which I think is due to the rice itself and not the cooking method. Since this is a ramen shop, there's no need to focus on the rice grains, and if they did, it would reflect in the price. I think it's fine to leave the rice as it is. The "junk" style suits this shop well. There was actually more rice than I expected, and even after finishing it with the beer, I didn't feel hungry for a while. Oh, I had a great meal!

The appearance is just like Shinpukusaikan, but the taste is quite tonkotsu. Hmm, was Shinpukusaikan tonkotsu? I haven't been there in a while, so I don't remember. The aftertaste was like tonkotsu ramen! which made me feel a bit like "oh no" as I'm not a fan of tonkotsu, but for those who love tonkotsu ramen, it might be a good mix. The fried rice was delicious, just like Shinpukusaikan. The menu is also quite diverse, so it seems like you won't get tired of it no matter how many times you come. It's located in a somewhat niche area, but there were people lining up, so I was impressed by how well-informed ramen lovers are.

This month, I visited this ramen shop for the second time. Today, my son and I came for dinner. I couldn't try it last time because I was alone, but I really wanted to try the Char Siu Fried Rice and the best Maze Soba after seeing everyone's posts. I decided to order the Char Siu Fried Rice that caught my eye last time I was here. I thought about getting the large portion, but the portions here are pretty big, so I stuck with the regular size just in case. It's a bit unusual to come to a ramen shop and not order ramen, right? It is located about a 20-minute walk southeast from Mukocho Station on the JR Kyoto Line. Upon entering the restaurant, I was seated at the counter. I ordered the fried rice set meal. Soon after, the ramen and fried rice were brought to me. The ramen had slices of pork, bamboo shoots, and green onions as toppings. The noodles were medium thick and straight. The soup was a rich soy sauce pork bone flavor. The noodles soaked up the soup nicely as I slurped them down. The pork slices, crunchy bamboo shoots, and fresh green onions enhanced the flavor. Red pickled ginger was served on the side of the fried rice. The fried rice had pork slices, egg, and green onions as toppings. It was moist and flavorful with a good amount of soy sauce. I ordered the roast pork bowl set with regular Chinese noodles for lunch. The lunch hours are from 11:00 to 19:00. The regular Chinese noodles have quite thick noodles when you eat them again. They come in a hot Kyoto black soup with plenty of char siu. Even without ordering a large portion, there are plenty of noodles. There are various menu options, but if you're unsure, just order the regular Chinese noodles and you'll be fine. The roast pork bowl also has a strong presence and makes a great combo with the ramen with double char siu. It's a satisfying experience.

Plenty of noodles with rich soup. The fried rice is also consistently flavorful. The chashu has a good balance of fatty and lean meat, and the fatty parts with bean sprouts are delicious. After filling up on fried rice, slurp up the noodles. Alternating between soup and water, it's just perfect.

I was torn between ordering the regular Chinese ramen or the Kyoto Tanmen, but this time I decided to try the Kyoto Tanmen. I had high expectations for the stir-fried vegetables. I couldn't remember what Tanmen was exactly, but when it arrived, I was impressed. This is Kyoto Tanmen. The simple presentation with stir-fried vegetables on top looked good. The char siu was tasty with a nice stir-fried flavor. The noodles were thinner than regular Chinese ramen. The soup was a bit light for my taste. It wasn't bad, but I felt like it had the potential to be even better. Next time, I'll try the regular Chinese ramen.
