The first dish was a platter of tofu, mizuna, cabbage, pork, and kimchi. The second dish was a kimchi platter with radish, green onion, and nagaimo. Today, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to have a drinking party to lift our spirits and not let the virus get us down. It was our usual gathering with my friend at the first bar. We have been running out of new places to explore due to the current situation, but we decided to visit a place that caught our interest - a bar known for its oden. Despite the quiet atmosphere on Ginza Street, we found the bar easily and settled in. We started with a set of drinks and ordered some oden items, including daikon and beef tendon. The beef tendon was tender and satisfying, while the daikon was average. The prices were reasonable, and although we wished for a bit more variety in the side dishes, the bar had a good selection of menu items and a comfortable seating area. This day was a gathering at a graveyard (°Д°) A secret meeting just for us that we can't tell anyone (laughs) Before that, I had a pre-meeting with the manager. He seemed to want to eat the oden at this restaurant. We were supposed to meet inside the restaurant at 5:30. For a moment, it seemed like it was fully booked and I started to panic, but there was some space available. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, the shopping street and restaurants feel empty (°Д°). So, when it comes to highballs and enjoying the beauty of nature, we ordered the chicken meatball hamburger (I didn't know about it). While drinking highballs, the manager arrived. He chose the slightly tipsy set with draft beer and two dishes for 550 yen, and the two dishes were confirmed to be pumpkin stew and mapo tofu. I also added the slightly tipsy set after that (laughs). The chicken meatball hamburger had cartilage in it, providing a good texture and tasted delicious (*´-`). The manager ordered oden with beef tendon and daikon. *Apparently, the beef tendon is delicious. Now, after disinfecting due to the coronavirus, shall we go to a motsunabe (offal hot pot) restaurant? There were only two people at the counter. I was here for the "slightly tipsy set" which always catches my eye when I see it. The menu has a variety of options displayed on the wall, but at the counter, they only had the drink menu. This place opens from 10 am in the morning, which is truly amazing. I started with the slightly tipsy set, which costs 550 yen including a beer (Asahi Super Dry) and a small dish of mapo tofu and simmered pumpkin. I love mapo tofu and it goes perfectly with the simmered pumpkin as a side dish for alcohol. I quickly finished the first round and ordered a thick fried tofu for 110 yen. Other than the tendon meat, everything else was 110 yen, which is quite reasonable. I paired it with a hot sake for 350 yen, which was delicious. The tofu with grated yam on top was a nice touch. Unfortunately, I forgot to note the price of the tendon meat. The tendon meat was cooked until it was tender and it was incredibly delicious. The staff was friendly and the overall experience was great. It was a delicious meal. At Sakai Higashieki Station on the Nankai Koya Line, we started off with a delicious standing bar drink, which set a good tone for our evening of drinking. As we were deciding where to go next, we stumbled upon a place we had never been to before. So, of course, we had to check it out since we had plenty of time. We ordered the "slightly tipsy set" which included two drinks and two small dishes for 500 yen. Surprisingly, they didn't have highball, so we settled for lemon chuhai and toasted to the afternoon with our second round of drinks. The small dishes were the usual simmered pumpkin and a unique twist on mapo tofu. The simmered pumpkin tasted the same as anywhere else, but I don't think I've ever had bad simmered pumpkin in my life. The mapo tofu tasted like the one from the supermarket brand. The owner seemed to be running the place alone, but the menu looked extensive, making it a good spot for solo drinkers. Now, let's move on to the main event - the grilled skewers!

After 10 years, I revisited Sakai Higashi Station and found that the once quiet shopping street is now bustling with various new izakayas. After strolling around, I decided to stop by a promising-looking izakaya for a drink. I ordered a set that included a draft beer and two small dishes for only 500 yen. It was fantastic!

A lovely izakaya where you can drink during the day - Sakai Higashi Hanachoufukugeki Mado! This time, I went in search of a drinking spot in Sakai Higashi and visited Hanachoufukugeki. The interior of the restaurant has an L-shaped counter where you can sit. Nowadays, even if it says standing bar, many places have chairs, right? First, I'll have the tipsy set for 500 yen. I chose a chu-hi to drink. The set includes potato salad and mapo tofu! These are my favorite dishes! The menu at this place is really extensive, which is great! I also had the fried chicken skin for 380 yen. It's juicy and full of chicken flavor, very delicious! This goes well with chu-hi. I also had the gyoza for 250 yen - the grilled texture looks delicious, right? This is a wonderful place where you can also enjoy conversations with the owner. I'll definitely visit again when I'm in Sakai Higashi. Thank you for the meal.

Stayed in the area for one night, decided to enjoy the Osaka culture by conquering the standing bar area. The second stop of the day is this place. This place is a standing-only establishment, no seats available to sit down and relax. I chose a large bottle of beer here, no appetizers so I went for the cartilage hamburg steak and decided to finish with some meat skewers. It's my first time eating this in Osaka, even though it's a common dish in the local area (lol). It's like meat in udon soup, light and delicious. Since I'm the only one at the second stop, I ended up in "finishing mode" (lol). I enjoyed some dishes like white liver, lotus root tempura, and dried young sardines in a relaxed manner. However, we felt extremely out of place, even though there were only two groups in the restaurant, so we decided to leave. The food was not bad, maybe it's just a matter of compatibility? The prices may be a bit higher due to the standing-only setup, but it's similar to regular izakaya prices. The atmosphere is unique, so it's worth a try.

Curry rice, soy sauce ramen, and a Gashiranchi combo meal! After filling up my stomach, I took a little break and had a drink at "Kachofugetsu" where they have a great set menu. I had a one-coin set which included a draft beer in a mug, two side dishes - komatsuna and dried daikon. It was a healthy and delicious appetizer. I finished everything and it was all very tasty! On August 16, 2016 (Tuesday, College Student Day) around 11:00 AM, my partner and I walked to the restaurant for lunch. I ordered Moro Miso Cucumber for 380 yen. Although the prices for standing drinks are a bit high, the portion sizes here are larger than nearby standing bars. The Chicken Skin Karaage for 380 yen was deliciously crispy and chewy. I also had Egg Tofu for 150 yen, which I hadn't had in a while. The pickled Water Eggplant for 300 yen was a bit pricey, as we had just been talking about how expensive water eggplants have become lately. The Sweet Long Pepper and Tofu Skin Simmered Dish for 300 yen is deep-fried after you order it. I had a strong Highball for 540 yen, while my partner had Oden (Thick Fried Tofu, Konjac, Daikon), Potato Salad, and Asahi Super Dry draft beer for 380 yen. We also had Oolong Tea for 270 yen. It was a delicious meal.
