At the food floor of Izumiya Takashimaya in Izumi-no-Kuni, there is a place that always has a long line, especially on weekends. It's a place where you can see how they make pork buns, so waiting in line is not a problem. They skillfully wrap the pork buns, and even though it looks like they are randomly tearing the dough, each bun ends up being the same weight. Children love watching the process, and even adults find it interesting. You can buy just one pork bun if you like. They also sell Chimaki individually, with three different flavors to choose from. If you can't decide, they recommend getting three. I bought a fried rice bento for my son who loves fried rice. For 900 yen, it comes with fried rice, meatballs, shumai, fried chicken, and tempura shrimp. My son was thrilled with the bento and said he could eat it every day. The pork buns come with mustard, and the staff recommended eating them with mustard and ponzu sauce in the summer for a refreshing taste. Don't forget the meatballs, which are a hidden popular menu item. They are often sold out, but luckily, I was able to get some this time. The meatballs are soft, large, and delicious. They have a lot of filling, so I like to stir-fry vegetables like onions and then add the meatballs and filling at the end, making the vegetables tasty as well. In the summer, they also sell ice candy. The current limited edition flavor is roasted green tea, while pistachio was available last year. I hope they bring back the pistachio flavor again.
