[October 2022 Sushi Experience♪] This sushi restaurant, located across from Ooga-san's highly-rated restaurant in Osaka Prefecture (with an outstanding food score of 4.41 as of October 2022), is a well-established sushi place with a respectable appearance. In fact, it is Ooga-san's family-owned restaurant, where his father still skillfully prepares sushi and is beloved by regular customers. When a senior food blogger friend invited me to dine there, I gladly accepted and made my way to the restaurant, leaving work early to catch the train. However, I mistakenly boarded a train heading to Mount Koya instead of adjusting my schedule at Sakai Station. After a minor detour, I arrived at the restaurant on time and met up with my senior companion for a toast. We enjoyed an exquisite sushi course at this over 80-year-old traditional sushi restaurant. The menu included: - Crab with jelly and myoga - Seared fatty tuna with ponzu sauce and grated daikon radish - Grilled kamasu fish with ginkgo nuts - Matsutake mushroom chawanmushi (savory egg custard) - Roasted duck breast with assorted vegetables - Blackthroat seaperch - Eel wrapped in seaweed - Sea bream with wood sorrel - Fatty tuna - Squid - Kohada (gizzard shad) - Salmon roe mini rice bowl - Scallop with simmered sauce - Prawn - Lean tuna marinated in soy sauce - Conger eel - Sea urchin gunkan sushi - Fatty tuna roll - Inari sushi - Tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) The bill came to 27,000 yen per person. The dishes were served promptly and smoothly by the skilled kitchen staff and apprentices, allowing us to finish the meal in just an hour and a half. Location: Upon exiting the east side of Sakai Station, head east along the river past the Hankai Electric Railway Hankai Line crossing. Turn right after crossing the guard and continue straight ahead on the right-hand side. This is the family-owned restaurant of the head chef at Sakai's Shinsei Sushi Ooga.

I had the pleasure of enjoying exquisite sushi dishes at the renowned sushi restaurant "Sushi Ooga," which is a representative of Sakai. We had the entire counter reserved for us, creating a luxurious atmosphere to savor the masterful sushi cuisine. The omakase sushi featured seasonal ingredients, and each piece was a delight to the taste buds. The seared nodoguro was a great start, with perfectly balanced shari and toppings. The maguro from "Yamako" was also outstanding. The ambiance was exceptional, with high-quality serving ware such as antique Imari and Roshanjin subtly enhancing the experience. This is a sushi restaurant that I always rely on. I have visited so many times that I have lost count. Before the sushi arrives, they serve a variety of beautiful and delicious appetizers. The sushi rice is soft and the toppings are, of course, delicious. The tamago (egg) served at the end is like castella, and everything is always delicious and satisfying. Thank you very much, Master.

I made a reservation for a weekday night and visited the restaurant. The reservation was relatively easy to make. The restaurant has about 8 counter seats, and the service was not rushed, allowing us to enjoy our meal leisurely. The total cost was around 28,000 yen without alcohol or additional orders. The dishes were served in stages, starting with appetizers followed by sushi. Every piece of sushi was delicious, and the chef's skill and attention to detail were evident. The rice was to my liking, and the fatty tuna was especially tasty. In terms of value for money, I didn't feel it was particularly great, but the atmosphere was nice, and we were able to enjoy our meal in a calm setting. The chef was also very kind and attentive, even seeing us off when we left. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I arrived at noon on a regular day and had the chef's choice for lunch. 1) Tuna stew was delicious. 2) I tried Nodoguro for the first time and its sweetness was amazing. 3) Eel wrapped in seaweed was soft and melted in my mouth. 4) Squid was surprisingly tender. 5) Medium fatty tuna. 6) Gizzard shad, not commonly found in Kansai. 7) Scallops were incredibly tender. 8) Carabineros shrimp. 9) Marinated tuna was exquisite. 10) Red miso soup. 11) Steamed anago. 12) Toro sushi. 13) Inari sushi. 14) Tamagoyaki was like castella cake. A total of 14 items, all for just 10,000 yen, which is quite cheap.

I had omakase sushi and I was looking forward to it as I had always wanted to go. The appetizers that came first were delicious, with the flavors of the ingredients and dashi being excellent. The sushi rice was slightly warm and gentle, a sign of skilled sushi making. The toppings were not only tasty but also had a smooth texture that went down the throat easily. They also have table seating, so it's recommended for those with children! For smokers, there is a smoking area outside.

My grandmother celebrated her 88th birthday, so we decided to have sushi as a celebration. Three generations - my grandmother, mother, and daughter - went together. The atmosphere was elegant and the sushi was delicious as always. My grandmother and mother, who were first-timers, were so happy and impressed! We were all very satisfied. I had a brief chat with some other customers at the end of the meal, and they mentioned that the fluffy egg, almost like castella cake, takes about 2 hours to make. Incredible! After our stomachs and hearts were full, we paid by card and left the restaurant. The master even watched over us as we left the parking lot. Such a thoughtful gesture! We will definitely come back again! Thank you for the wonderful meal! - Menu - - Appetizer - Tuna simmered in soy sauce - Sushi - Knifejaw Eel wrapped in seaweed Squid Red snapper Tuna Scallop Shrimp Pickled tuna Conger eel Fatty tuna Salmon roe, Inari sushi (in this order from top) (Additional orders available, e.g. octopus, sea urchin) - Access - Located right next to the Yamaguchi shopping street in Yado Inn. Parking is at Ooga-san's (the master's son's shop) next door. Note that the road is narrow and only one car can pass through at a time, so it may be easy to miss. However, there is parking for about 8 cars further in. The total cost for three people was ¥29,700, so it was ¥9,900 per person. This price does not include additional sushi or drinks. Please use this as a reference (although prices may vary due to recent inflation).

Omakase course featuring tuna simmered in soy sauce, grilled on the surface to give a charcoal aroma. The flesh is placed on top of the rice, which is then shaped into sushi. The texture of the flesh is firm and chewy. Eel with a rich sauce flavor and a crispy surface. Sea bream with a decent amount of soy sauce and vinegar flavor. Tuna with a perfect amount of fat between otoro and chutoro. Cuttlefish, sliced finely and tender, shaped into sushi. Sweet and creamy shrimp. Gizzard shad marinated in vinegar, a traditional Osaka-style sushi. Prawn with a sour vinegar rice. Marinated lean tuna with leeks sandwiched in between. Conger eel with a fluffy and melting texture. Red miso soup with fatty tuna. Rolled sushi with mustard inside. Sweet fried tofu pouches. Osaka-style fluffy omelette. Overall, the sushi had a strong vinegar taste and flavorful soy sauce, making it easy to eat. The flavors were slightly overpowering, so it might be best enjoyed with some sake. The chef's skillful technique of shaping the sushi with a topping of gravel on top was impressive and inspiring. I would like to learn how to do it myself someday.

I enjoyed the 6th ranked restaurant on Tabelog in Osaka! While it may not be flashy, the careful work put into each piece of sushi results in a perfectly tender shari. The anago (conger eel) in particular was soft and delicious! By the way, the 1st ranked restaurant is the son's place across the street, with reservations being difficult to secure and prices starting at 30,000 yen. I definitely want to conquer both of these places someday! Everyone, please give them a try!

On this day, I went to Yasuke in Sakai, Osaka for lunch. It is a restaurant that has been selected as a Tabelog Bronze and one of the top 100 restaurants. It is located across from Sushi Ooga, which is the father's shop of Daiga. For lunch, you can enjoy a casual course mainly focused on sushi. The gentle vinegar rice that goes well with various toppings is not too strong, which I personally like. Since I love sushi, I was very satisfied with the delicious course at this price. Reservations are relatively easy to make, and it is a recommended sushi restaurant that I would like to visit again in Osaka. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I visited a sushi restaurant in the Kansai region recently. They have a parking lot available. I had the omakase course, and at times there were no other customers, so I was able to finish the course in about an hour since I eat quickly. The grilled gari with sansho pepper was delicious. The nigiri with scallop and shrimp were particularly tasty. The chef was calm and had a pleasant demeanor. The course included: - Hairy crab with jelly - Seared tuna - Grilled sea bass - Matsutake mushroom chawanmushi - Duck breast simmered - Throat blackthroat seaperch - Eel - Squid - Medium fatty tuna - Small fin tuna - Fresh salmon roe - Scallop - Uni from Ogawa - Shrimp - Marinated lean tuna with green onion - Eel - Fatty tuna with octopus - Inari sushi - Egg - Simmered octopus The additional order of thickly stuffed scallops was delicious.

Today's dinner in Sakai City, Osaka was at Yamasuke, a popular restaurant representing Osaka, located on the opposite side of the road from the renowned Sushi Oogasa. Yamasuke is a local, fourth-generation sushi restaurant that has won the Bronze Foodlog Award for three consecutive years. The father and son of Yamasuke used to work together at Oogasa, but now they have their own distinct sushi styles, constantly striving to outdo each other as rivals. The sushi made by the father at Yamasuke focuses on tradition and classical flavors, with a mild vinegar taste in the rice that is loved by everyone. It was a delicious meal. The menu included dishes such as kanimiso with crab, seared fatty tuna, salt-grilled kamasu fish, matsutake mushroom chawanmushi, duck breast simmered dish, and a variety of nigiri sushi like blackthroat seaperch, toro, squid, new salmon roe, scallop, pickled shrimp, conger eel, toro-taku, inarizushi, and tamago. The total cost was 23,980 yen.

I wanted to visit Sushi Oogasan, run by your son, but ended up at your father's shop where you are currently working. The appetizers were delicious, and although the rice was a bit firm for my liking, the sushi was gently made and had a nice texture. We arrived over 30 minutes late and were the only customers on a Saturday, which made us feel a bit awkward. However, the sushi was so delicious that we enjoyed every bite. Towards the end, you finally showed us a kind smile. I would love to come back to try more of your sushi.

The sushi was delicious! The rice was plump with large grains, providing a satisfying chewy texture. The nodoguro, eel, and seaweed roll, tai, chutoro, and ikura were all excellent. The scallop melted in my mouth with a sweet sauce, and the slightly smoked shrimp was visually appealing. The tuna, marinated in red miso, and the anago had the best balance of rice, toppings, and sauce. The toro taku inari sushi had a fluffy and slightly bouncy egg filling, reminiscent of a meringue dessert but not overly sweet. Both the red miso soup and the inari sushi evoked a similar sense of 'wa' (Japanese harmony).

In Sakai, the oldest shop is like a high-class traditional Japanese restaurant with a main counter and private rooms. This time, I was in a private room and the atmosphere was amazing.
