[January 2015] First visit to Torikizoku (for 2 people) After leaving Tsukada Farm, we were thinking about where to go next, and this place came up in our conversation. It was actually my first time visiting this chain restaurant, Torikizoku. This particular location has been open for 5 years, offering yakitori for 280 yen each, which they have been doing for a long time. The price does not include consumption tax, so it comes out to 302 yen each. Depending on the item, it can be a good deal or not. My friend, who seems to be wise, ordered a Yamazaki highball, which came in a slim metal tumbler. They adjust the quantity to keep the price the same. Even though I thought my friend was already full, they ordered hormone negi with ponzu sauce and chicken skin yakitori. They are really dedicated to consuming purines. For some reason, there is no image of these items, so here is a picture of the eggplant pickles. I focused on my highball, switching to Yamazaki highball at one point, which was quite strong. It went well with the seasoned egg. The atmosphere was a bit loud with what seemed like a group of students, but this place might be worth visiting again. I might try going alone next time. We had 10 items for 3020 yen for the two of us. Thank you for the meal.
[October 2010] Initial visit to the same restaurant ⇒ Ended up not visiting for over 4 years. Tomorrow, October 19th, a 280 yen yakitori restaurant called Torikizoku will open in Ikebukuro East Exit. On October 19th (Tuesday) and 20th (Wednesday), they are having a grand opening campaign with all items at half price! (During the campaign period, the business hours are from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM) Website ⇒ http://www.torikizoku.co.jp/shops/detail/200 Isn't it amazing that all appetizers and drinks will be half price, only 140 yen? Including tax, it's the same price as a canned chu-hi at a convenience store, 147 yen. I haven't been to a Torikizoku-affiliated restaurant yet. Plus, this Sunshine Street location is apparently the 200th store. (I didn't realize there were that many) I want to go since it's half price, but I might have to finish work early to make it there. I'll attach an image of the flyer for now. I've noticed that there are many chain restaurants, like Ichigeki Izakaya (Yoroi no Takumi series), that are fulfilling the needs of the masses, so I have high hopes.
Pin Visit Recently visited this place for the first time... Torikizoku Last time, I had quite a bit to drink before coming here, so I thought I'd visit as the second place today. I ordered a Yamazaki highball. Hmm, it's really strong. They serve it in a slim metal tumbler. My friend ordered tororo yaki. I like this kind of dish. Sometimes you can find something similar called pinpin yaki at izakayas, but they don't offer it for 300 yen. It had squid or something similar with a bit of filling, mayo, and seaweed. This is a good snack. So, I ended up having three drinks. The next day, I came back again. This time, it was the second place. I ordered a Kakuhai highball. It seems like they pour it up to about 7/10 of the glass as standard. It doesn't look as appetizing if the highball isn't filled to the top, right? I hadn't tried the yakitori yet, even though it was my third visit, so I ordered a grilled dish. Let's go for the momogizoku yaki with a spicy flavor. It took about 10 minutes to arrive. And when it did... it was huge! It's hard to tell from the photo, so I placed a toothpick next to it. It looks like it's about 1.5 to 2 times the amount of regular yakitori places. The meat was tender and quite tasty. The Kakuhai went down smoothly. Then, without much of a break, the chicken and shiso leaf tempura arrived. I'm not sure, but the plum sauce seemed to be sweeter than expected, more like a sweet chili sauce? I think it would be better if it was more salty here. I'll have a Yamazaki highball to dry out my mouth. I'm curious about the limited sour drinks at the store, but I still want a highball. After having another drink, the place was quite crowded. The staff and customers seemed to be mostly students, and I started to feel a bit out of place. Despite being able to drink more, we decided to leave. Maybe it's better to come with more than two people at this place? The yakitori is big, so maybe it's easier to enjoy with more people.
