During a business trip, I went to lunch with a friend and we ended up at our usual ramen shop. However, this time we went into the neighboring parking lot where a new restaurant had opened. The place was clean and had a slightly trendy vibe, making it a bit intimidating for a lone guy to enter. Inside, there were about 4-5 seats at the counter and 3 tables. The lunch menu had a few options, and I chose the white fish set meal while my friend ordered rice with bonito flakes and a side of fried chicken. The set meal looked fancy and stylish, but more geared towards women with small portions of rice and sauces served on the side. It was tasty, but I prefer to have lots of sauce and tartar. The meal cost over a thousand yen (including tax), which felt a bit pricey compared to the 700 yen meals you can get in Osaka. Overall, I felt like it wasn't quite my kind of place.

The restaurant is located in Izumitanaka, Sakai City, in the Minami Ward, along the Izumikita Ring Road. There are other stores nearby and a shared parking lot available. The exterior of the restaurant is cute. Inside, there are a few tables, a counter that can seat about 3-4 people, and the staff consisted mostly of women. I ordered the special lunch set which was served in a multi-tiered tray with various dishes such as sashimi, deep-fried mushrooms and fish, roast beef, boiled bamboo shoots, fried fish paste, marinated seaweed, and tofu with toppings. It was a delightful meal and I especially enjoyed the variety of dishes. The portion was just right for me, and although I didn't ask for extra rice, I received a refill. The Stairs Lunch costs 1500 yen (excluding tax) and comes with sashimi and a variety of side dishes. The sashimi of the day was tuna and salmon, both sweet and fresh. The side dishes included fried shiitake mushrooms, simmered bamboo shoots, roast beef, lotus root with spicy cod roe, stuffed fried seaweed, sea grapes, cold tofu, and miso soup. The side dishes had a homely and gentle flavor. It was a heartwarming lunch. The daily lunch set also seems to be quite filling and costs 1000 yen. I would like to try that next time. When it gets a little warmer, I want to go back to try the shaved ice made by freezing and shaving liquid. Thank you for the meal.

Today's lunch was at a Japanese cafe in Izumitanaka. I've been here about 5 times since it opened, but every time it's been closed unexpectedly. The udon shop next door was also closed, and the tempura restaurant was still preparing. The daily special was either chicken nanban or oyster fry for 1100 yen. The oyster fry came with 5 pieces, 2 side dishes, miso soup, rice, and pickles (lotus root and burdock kinpira, potato salad). I had high hopes for the rice since it's in the cafe's name, but unfortunately, it was disappointing for the price. The tartar sauce tasted like McDonald's with an American pickle flavor, and the sauce was like tonkatsu sauce. It just didn't work for me. I wonder how the fish was. If you get greedy and roll too much, it ends up being just rice and seaweed (laughs). The breakfast looked delicious, so next time I want to try the tamagokake gohan or katsuobushi rice.

The yellowtail sashimi was fresh and fatty, with a slightly sweet soy sauce. The fried chicken was hot and flavorful, with a hint of ginger. The thick omelette sandwich had a generous amount of egg and was satisfying. We also heard that they offer desserts as it is a cafe. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and decided to stop there for today.
