If you have any leftovers, they might feed you some university potatoes. It might have been a while since I last had them! The sugar syrup around it doesn't interfere with the sweetness of the sweet potato! I used to dislike university potatoes because they were too sweet, but the university potatoes here are delicious. I was told that sweet potato chips are actually a result of failed university potatoes. It seems that it's tricky to get the right amount of heat in the sugar syrup - if it's heated too much, it crystallizes white and becomes a failure. That's how it became sweet potato chips. This is a sweet potato shop that opened under the Shinkansen overpass at Kenkasu intersection. I found this shop on my way home and decided to stop by to buy some sweet potatoes to take home. When I entered the shop, they had two types of sweet potatoes available that day: "Beniharuka" and "Silky Queen". I chose three Kumamoto-grown Beniharuka sweet potatoes and some dried sweet potatoes to take home. The Beniharuka sweet potatoes were priced at 180 yen per 100g or around 300 yen each. Despite being very sweet, they had a refreshing aftertaste and a moist and tender texture. I also bought some dried sweet potatoes for 500 yen. They make a perfect snack. The shop is located at Momojii in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, at 2-13-12 Kenkasu.
