[Overall Review] A high-class Japanese restaurant that offers a variety of high-quality dishes that surpass typical izakaya standards in a cozy atmosphere. The prices are on the higher side, but the food is undeniably delicious. However, some people may feel uncomfortable due to the atmosphere.
- Good Points: The ingredients used, cooking techniques, and the level of dishes served far exceed those of a regular izakaya. It's understandable why this place once received a Michelin star. The restaurant is designed to resemble a sake brewery, and enjoying premium sake and food in this setting is a rare experience.
- Bad Points: Without singling anyone out, the staff at the restaurant can come off as a bit harsh (I also felt this during a phone reservation), which seems to affect the overall atmosphere. For some, the comfort level may not be ideal. Additionally, while the food is indeed delicious, the pricing can be a bit off-putting. For example, the "Live Hairy Crab Jelly" dish costs 12,800 yen, which may seem excessive for a whole crab. It might be more enjoyable if they offered different ways to enjoy the dish or reduced the portion size to adjust the pricing.
- Dish Reviews:
"Simmered Water Eggplant (Half) @ Unknown yen": Since I was dining alone, I was served a half portion. It had a light and elegant flavor with a dashi-like broth. The eggplant was finely scored, offering a juicy and sweet taste.
"Sashimi Platter @ Unknown yen": I also ordered a single serving. They seemed confident in their wasabi, advising me to enjoy the sashimi without mixing it with soy sauce. The flavor was indeed striking.
"Live Hairy Crab Jelly @ 12,800 yen": A whole hairy crab was served, providing a satisfying eating experience. However, eating a whole crab alone can become a bit monotonous. It would be nice to try different ways to enjoy it besides the jelly and vinegar.
"Fish Offal Simmered @ 450 yen": A simmered dish made from various fish scraps. This izakaya-like menu item was reasonably priced and had a refined flavor with a hint of ginger and soy sauce.
"Crab Miso Croquette @ 450 yen": The sauce was creamy like gratin. I had 5 dishes, 2 highballs, Yukino Bijin, and Niimi, with a total bill of 22,800 yen.
