Rare Fukuoka business trip. Visited here after a long time. This place has delicious oden and snacks. Conversations with the mama across the counter are lively, which is also great. Since it was during the COVID-19 self-restraint period, I left before getting drunk. I want to come back and take it easy again.

Easy to go alone, even if you smoke, with home-cooked meals.

Good atmosphere, delicious oden, tasty meat, beer goes well, and it's affordable.

A small izakaya with a slightly larger table, two two-person tables, and only counter seats. It was cold so I ate a lot of oden. It was my first time trying avocado oden and it was delicious. The hormone skewers and salt-grilled tail were also delicious. The atmosphere was calm and the clientele was nice. It's the kind of place I would like to visit regularly.

This is a restaurant called "Mariko Shokudo" that seems to be favored by mature gentlemen, offering homey snacks, oden, and skewered hormone dishes. The main seating is at the counter, and behind the hormone skewers, there is a female owner who seems to be Mariko-san. She manages the place alone, dressed in a modest but tasteful kimono with a black apron. I started with a highball, enjoying the sizzling sound. The specialty hormone skewers were delicious, followed by crispy stingray fin tempura. I also tried the oden, including recommended items like "kappa" (beef tendon) and daikon radish. The food had a homemade feel, not too bold or too subtle. The Gyoza tempura and burdock tempura were also satisfying. This place is definitely worth revisiting. The meal ended with endless sweet potato shochu. The address is 2-1-21 Maizuru, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The restaurant is open from 5:30 pm to 1:00 am, closed on Sundays. My work colleague from Tokyo happened to be in Fukuoka, and since they have only been there twice, I decided to invite them for dinner to show them around a bit. After some hesitation, I chose a restaurant called "Mariko Shokudo" near the hotel. The cozy eatery, run by Mariko herself, seemed like a place where one could experience the kindness of Fukuoka locals. We sat at the counter where regular customers were chatting with Mariko. We tried the meat and potato stew, which was different from what we expected but delicious. The main dish at the restaurant was oden, and we tried the assorted oden which included gyoza. The flavors were rich and comforting, perfect for the hot weather. We also enjoyed skewered hormone cooked in a pot next to the oden. The tender meat melted in the mouth, and the crispy skin added a nice texture. It felt like enjoying a home-cooked meal in a casual atmosphere. I would love to visit Mariko's restaurant again when I'm in Fukuoka.

Mariko Shokudo in Maizuru. I had been curious about this restaurant for a while. As their catchphrase suggests, the oden looks incredibly delicious. The prices are also quite reasonable. I ordered daikon, egg, and thick fried tofu. They were all soaked in a nice broth. The hormone skewers were incredibly tender. They were exquisite. The restaurant is small with a counter seating arrangement, but has a bright yet cozy atmosphere. I would definitely want to go back again.

I have visited this place several times and I think it's a great spot for enjoying a relaxed meal and drinks with a small group without any pretense. Whenever I bring friends here, everyone leaves satisfied. The dishes are all delicious, but I highly recommend the skewers cooked in soup – you can never have enough of them. However, if you go late, they might run out. Also, don't underestimate their set meals. Even though they're called set meals, they're perfect for dinner, especially when paired with drinks. You can enjoy some snacks while having drinks and finish with a hearty meal. It's a great place to casually drop by for dinner. The owner is friendly and attentive, which adds to the charm of the place. I definitely want to visit again.

After work today, I was thinking about what to cook while walking, but I realized I had vegetables at home but no meat. The meat at the nearby supermarket is not fresh and expensive. I was in a dilemma when I saw a sign for this shop. It said they offer oden for takeout. The shop didn't look very inviting, but takeout seemed quick and easy. I nervously entered the shop. It seemed like a place for regular customers only, and the owner looked surprised to see me. I also felt out of place. I told her I wanted to order oden for takeout, as the sign indicated. Despite the awkwardness, she accommodated my request. She put the oden in a plastic container for me. Next to the oden, there was a stand with hormone skewers, which caught my eye. I decided to try the hormone skewers as well, even though takeout wasn't offered for them. She wrapped them up for me. When I got home, I tried the hormone skewers while they were still warm. They were tender and deliciously rich. I felt like having a couple more. The oden had a flavorful broth and the beef tendon-like meat was tasty. The daikon radish and deep-fried tofu were also generously portioned. I forgot about the vegetables I had at home. I later tried a similar hormone skewer from a different place, but it just wasn't the same. The ones from this shop were better. I wonder if I'll have the courage to go back again.
