In front of Goryokaku, the rotating sushi restaurant Shunka Minatomachi Hakodate is a place where the seafood bowl is delicious! I thought the rotating sushi must be good too, so I joined the line right when it opened. The restaurant is quite spacious, so I didn't have to wait at all to enter. There are dividers, with only 3 seats at the counter, mostly for 2 people, and box seats for 3 people or more. Since I was alone, I opted for the 10-piece assortment (1,980 yen). The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lively, with the staff recommending dishes directly rather than sushi rotating on a rail. Before the 10-piece assortment arrived, I had two pieces of Nishin (308 yen) from Abashiri. It was my first time having Nishin sushi, and it had a slightly unique taste, but not enough to be off-putting. After a short wait, the 10-piece assortment arrived, consisting of the following: salmon roe, sea urchin, anglerfish liver, hokke fish, horse mackerel, flatfish, natural yellowtail, scallop, marinated kelp, and egg. For this price, it also included salmon roe and sea urchin, which were delicious! The sea urchin was probably from northern purple sea urchin and was very tasty. The salmon roe was consistently good, and the fatty tuna was also delicious. The anglerfish liver was tasty, as well as the flatfish, scallop, and marinated kelp. The squid was just average, and the natural yellowtail lacked a bit of fatty flavor. The egg was okay, but I didn't really need it without rice. I forgot to eat the soup and chawanmushi. It was Sunday, but I was able to easily enjoy sushi, so I think it was a good experience. Thank you for the meal!
