Oil soba is not bad either... so I tried eating the oil soba at the Tokyo Abura Soba Sogoto Main Store in Ueno! It may be a bit late, but I used to deny eating oil soba... but I thought I had to try it to know for sure, so I went in. The regular oil soba is 800 yen, and with an additional topping (A topping) of 200 yen, the total is 1000 yen. The A topping includes a soft-boiled egg and something else. There are instructions on how to enjoy the meal at the counter, so I tried different ways of eating while following the instructions. The condiments available at the counter are vinegar, chili oil, spicy miso, onions, and pepper. First, I tried it without adding anything... it was quite delicious. Then, I added vinegar and chili oil twice, which was even better. Next, I tried the spicy miso, which made it quite spicy but still good. I added onions for health reasons from the beginning. Overall, the chashu, which tends to be overshadowed by the soup in ramen, was really delicious. The chewy texture of the noodles was good, and the way the sauce coated them was nice. However, while in ramen, there is a process of taking time to savor the soup, in oil soba, the main focus is on the soy sauce-based sauce, so I don't think it offers great value for money. I might want to eat it occasionally, but considering the value for money, I might just go for a delicious bowl of ramen instead...
