Black rockfish sashimi, tataki of red sea bream, boiled bay scallop. I bought them raw and cooked at home. The black rockfish (also known as Sumiyaki) is a deep-sea fish with a lot of fat. It's commonly eaten in Kanagawa prefecture but not widely available nationwide. I was curious about it and decided to try. The hesitation marks on the fish turned out to be from the bone cutting. It was served with vinegar miso but tasted great with soy sauce too. The next day, when I went back to the store, it was already sold out, showing how rare it is. I felt like I had never eaten red sea bream before, despite knowing it from childhood encyclopedias. It might be more delicious and chewier than regular sea bream. As for the bay scallop, it was my first time boiling it at home, but it turned out a bit tough. It seems that cooking scallops is tricky. Apart from these, I also bought kombu seaweed, soaked it in salt, fried it, and tried to imitate a dish from "Golden Kamuy." So much fun experimenting in the kitchen!

On the second day of our trip to Osaka, around 8 pm when we were heading back, the area was bustling with preparations for closing. It seemed like they were closing early. Near our accommodation, we visited Kuromon Market. Even though we had walked around during lunchtime, it was much less crowded now, making it easier to stroll around. At night, Kuromon Market was even quieter, with bright lights shining. We noticed Nakanokawa Supermarket in Kuromon Market. It looked like they had fresh sashimi, catching our attention. We decided to buy some sushi, even though we had already bought a lot for lunch. The freshness was outstanding, and the sushi was delicious. We ended up buying more the next day. On the third day, we purchased sashimi and enjoyed it with a drink in our hotel room. If you stay near Kuromon Market, this place is convenient as it opens relatively late, making it a good option for dinner when you're in a pinch.

I walked 1.5km north from the New World and arrived at Kuromon Market in Osaka. This market, which has been operating since the late Edo period, combines wholesale and retail functions, with about 170 shops selling fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, food, clothing, and more. In the past, I used to buy fugu (blowfish) at Kuromon Market to treat my friends to a traditional year-end dish called "tetchiri" and would often shop for dinner there. However, in recent years, the market has become crowded with foreign tourists, and the atmosphere has changed to focus more on high-priced food and drinks targeted at tourists. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign tourists have disappeared, and now more than half of the shops in Kuromon Market have closed down, creating a quiet and deserted atmosphere. For dinner tonight, I asked my friends what they wanted to eat, and they requested hamburgers. So, I stopped by the supermarket "Kuromon Nakagawa" to buy the ingredients. I purchased the following items, all excluding tax: -Teppanyaki hamburgers x2 for 228 yen each -Beef stew x2 for 350 yen each -Beef tongue stew x2 for 350 yen each -Broccoli for 198 yen -Macaroni salad for 148 yen -8 slices of roast ham (90g) for 198 yen Normally, I would make hamburgers from scratch by kneading ground meat, but today I wanted to take it easy as I planned to take a nap with my dog for 2 hours and work on the draft of my food blog post from the 4 restaurants I visited in Shinsekai today. So, I opted for bagged hamburgers that can be heated in the microwave and two types of stew that can be warmed with hot water as a sauce substitute. I boiled the broccoli in salted water, heated the hamburgers in the microwave, and then placed them on a hot skillet. I poured the heated beef stew over the hamburgers, and voila, a serving of "stew hamburgers" for one person was ready for just 300 yen. It was affordable, delicious, and easy to make. I also made macaroni salad and soup, added pickles, and in less than an hour, a meal for four was ready. I had planned to cook everything from scratch, but using pre-made items can make a meal so luxurious. Enjoy!

In May 2020, I decided to visit Kuromon Market after seeing good reviews from MyRebi-san. Before the pandemic, the market was always crowded with tourists from overseas, and the prices were unusually high, so I had stopped going there. However, now with hardly any tourists around, many shops were closed. I visited Kuromon Nakagawa, which was open. I didn't plan on buying anything, but I couldn't resist purchasing "Konjac with Roe" for 352 yen and "Kombu with Roe" for 532 yen (both of which are my favorite foods). When I tried them at home, I made the mistake of not rinsing the salt off the Kombu with Roe, so I had to battle with the saltiness (I have zero cooking knowledge). Despite this, the flavors of the sea were enjoyable. The Konjac with Roe was delicious on its own, with a nice chewy texture that went well with Japanese sake. Thank you for the meal!

This is a spacious supermarket inside the Kuromon Market. I have used it a few times for year-end shopping, but I don't remember the name of the store (I often visit multiple stores, so even if the store name is printed on the shopping bag, I forget). I heard that high-end ingredients have dropped in price due to the decrease in inbound demand, but... 4 abalones for 880 yen!? They are not giant abalones, but they are not thawed either. I removed the shells and cooked them with butter, and they were soft and delicious, or should I say, "shi-a-wa-se" (happiness). The horse mackerel for sashimi was from Oita. It might have been close to a spotted mackerel? The remaining skin was shiny and beautiful. I bought half of a black rockfish, but there was also a whole one with clear eyes. Both had good freshness. On Saturday, May 23, 2020, the crowd at Kuromon Market was at a weekday level before the inbound demand. Two weeks ago, this place was still closed and Kuromon as a whole was quiet, but now most of the shops are open, so fixing my bike and going for daily shopping here is also an option. It used to be difficult to approach due to the influx of inbound customers in recent years.

I wanted to eat sushi since I came to Kuromon Market. It was too crowded during lunchtime, so I decided to get takeout. I bought the sushi rice at home and it turned out to be more voluminous than expected. The salmon was soft and delicious. I'm satisfied.

Foreigners are well aware! The crowds are like Hatsumode! It's packed with young people from Korea and China. The famous fatty tuna at Noryangjin Fish Market is really crowded! The tuna is incredibly fatty! However, it's so crowded that it seems impossible to get in. In addition to fatty tuna, there are also huge king crabs, which are quite expensive. Uni is cheaper here than at Tsukiji Market! There's marbled steak! The crabs, steak, and scallops are all grilled on the spot, and they look incredibly delicious! Uni and sushi can also be eaten on the spot! There are still very few Japanese people here! There are hardly any reviews on Tabelog! But if you eat at a big fatty tuna sushi restaurant like this, it's likely to cost over 2,000 yen for one piece, yet at Nakagawa-san, it's only 700 yen per piece! At other places, small pieces of fatty tuna are sold for around 400 yen, but they are not as large as here and the fattiness is the best here!

Kuromon Nakagawa-san has some eye-catching items! When you come to Namba, be sure to check it out! One item that caught my eye was a 500g pack of ikura for around 3000 yen! I splurged and bought it! With my family, we enjoyed ikura bowls to our heart's content. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal! (^ν^)

Every year, I cook "tai no ko" (roe of sea bream) for New Year's. I usually buy it at the Komagawa shopping street or at Harukas, but this year I went to a supermarket near Black Gate. Since the staff wasn't right in front of me, I could take my time and carefully choose. It's great! (The business people in the shopping street are always bothering you to buy something and you can't look around leisurely). I visited the supermarket twice this week. I bought items for New Year's and things to consume soon. The fresh fish section is really enjoyable. On Saturday afternoon, it was crowded with foreign people.

Osaka Nipponbashi Kuromon Market❣️ Next to the Bunraku Theater. The autumn Bunraku performance "Shinju Yoi Koshibi" is a play by Chikamatsu Monzaemon. The husband, Hanbei, values etiquette and appearance, causing him inner conflict. This poignant story depicts a loving couple who promise to be together for life through thick and thin. After the show ended in the early afternoon, we went shopping at Kuromon Market before heading back to Kyoto. The market was bustling with people, with various fishmongers selling their goods. We couldn't resist buying some cheap horsehair crabs for 680 yen, as well as some turban shells for 999 yen and Thai fish for 396 yen. Although we wanted to buy more, we decided to stop there. When we got home, we cooked the horsehair crabs, simmered the turban shells in a sweet and savory sauce, and made a scrambled egg dish with the Thai fish for a luxurious dinner. The total cost was 2241 yen❣️

Kuromon Market, wandering around~. This supermarket is always fun to browse. You can take your time looking around even if you don't buy anything, which is nice. They have a great selection of seafood, and it's cheap! They have unique items that you don't see in other supermarkets. For example, I was surprised at how cheap the konjac with baby fish was. On this day, I was checking out the cod roe (from saffron cod) to prepare for New Year's. I always cook a lot in advance to avoid any mishaps on the actual day. This time, I failed. I like mine on the sweeter and more soy sauce side, but it wasn't sweet enough so I added more sugar and cooked it again. The result was too sweet. It's all about eyeballing the ingredients, so these things happen sometimes. Well, at least I gained some experience this year. I just hope I won't mess up at the end of the year. 🙏

I came back again! This time, they had good quality salmon roe on sale for half price. I couldn't resist buying it! I brought it home, marinated it in soy sauce, and enjoyed it over rice as a "salmon roe bowl." The roe was large and delicious! Finally got to taste one of the highlights of Kuromon! It was so delicious, thank you for the meal!

This "Nakagawa-san at Kuromon Market" and "Sanpei-san" from the shop diagonally in front are the shops I always visit when I go to Kuromon Market! Nakagawa-san is a supermarket inside Kuromon! It gives off the impression of a "typical shop" in the shopping street! I usually buy a lot, but recently there hasn't been much to catch my eye! This time, my wife bought "oysters with shells"! She said they were bigger than those from elsewhere♪ It became part of our dinner ^o^ It was delicious♪ Thank you for the meal!

Mr. Nakagawa has visited this restaurant many times, but I only used it once. I thought this place had a high-end image, but it turned out to be totally different. The vegetables and fish were surprisingly cheap. The side dishes were also affordable, with a bento box priced at 350 yen being quite filling! I also bought horse mackerel sushi, and although I forgot the price, it was also cheap. The Edo-style sushi with horse mackerel was small but quite delicious.

At one point, Kuromon Market was full of inbound tourists, but now it feels quite lonely. However, Kuromon Nakagawa, a supermarket inside the market, is quite interesting. The fresh fish section is like a department store basement, with Korean abalone priced at 880 yen for 4 pieces. I tried butter-grilled and sake-steamed abalone, and they were delicious. Another day, I saw a fish called "Kuroshibikamasu" from Odawara, which was new to me. It had small bones near the skin, but the fat made it tasty. They also had "Ishidai," which has a different texture from red snapper and is enjoyable. The meat is good quality, and they have a variety of side dishes and processed foods. If you're tired of regular supermarkets, I recommend checking out Kuromon Nakagawa for some interesting finds.
