I walked 1.5km north from the New World and arrived at Kuromon Market in Osaka. This market, which has been operating since the late Edo period, combines wholesale and retail functions, with about 170 shops selling fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, food, clothing, and more. In the past, I used to buy fugu (blowfish) at Kuromon Market to treat my friends to a traditional year-end dish called "tetchiri" and would often shop for dinner there. However, in recent years, the market has become crowded with foreign tourists, and the atmosphere has changed to focus more on high-priced food and drinks targeted at tourists. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign tourists have disappeared, and now more than half of the shops in Kuromon Market have closed down, creating a quiet and deserted atmosphere.
For dinner tonight, I asked my friends what they wanted to eat, and they requested hamburgers. So, I stopped by the supermarket "Kuromon Nakagawa" to buy the ingredients. I purchased the following items, all excluding tax: -Teppanyaki hamburgers x2 for 228 yen each -Beef stew x2 for 350 yen each -Beef tongue stew x2 for 350 yen each -Broccoli for 198 yen -Macaroni salad for 148 yen -8 slices of roast ham (90g) for 198 yen
Normally, I would make hamburgers from scratch by kneading ground meat, but today I wanted to take it easy as I planned to take a nap with my dog for 2 hours and work on the draft of my food blog post from the 4 restaurants I visited in Shinsekai today. So, I opted for bagged hamburgers that can be heated in the microwave and two types of stew that can be warmed with hot water as a sauce substitute. I boiled the broccoli in salted water, heated the hamburgers in the microwave, and then placed them on a hot skillet. I poured the heated beef stew over the hamburgers, and voila, a serving of "stew hamburgers" for one person was ready for just 300 yen. It was affordable, delicious, and easy to make. I also made macaroni salad and soup, added pickles, and in less than an hour, a meal for four was ready. I had planned to cook everything from scratch, but using pre-made items can make a meal so luxurious. Enjoy!
