After visiting the Saimyoji Temple, which is one of the 22 temples in the Saigoku Thirty-three Kannon Pilgrimage, I found myself in a lunch dilemma as a nearby soba shop was closed. Luckily, I was saved by a restaurant that served okonomiyaki, a dish I rarely eat, maybe once every few years. I had never thought of having okonomiyaki as a side dish for a set meal, but the rich sauce made it surprisingly enjoyable with rice. If there were more okonomiyaki restaurants in the Kanto region, it could be a good lunch option.

A quick solo drink on a holiday afternoon. I visited a sunny Sunday afternoon around 2 pm at a okonomiyaki restaurant called Chin-Chikurin located on the north side of Hankyu Sojiji Station. It's just a 1-minute walk from the station. The restaurant has about 4 counter seats and 3 table seats for 4 people each. There were 3 staff members in the restaurant, giving off a casual family-like atmosphere. They had a TV showing a baseball game. It's a very ordinary, unpretentious okonomiyaki restaurant in a local town.
- Bottle of beer (Super Dry) ¥480
I ordered while waiting. The okonomiyaki is cooked on a large iron plate and brought to your seat.
- Special Okonomiyaki ¥1100
This one had shrimp, squid, beef, and egg in it. The shrimp looked like they were sleeping under a blanket haha. The cabbage amount was moderate. The batter was properly cooked through, thick and heavy. Topped with seaweed and mayonnaise, but no bonito flakes. It's a traditional, standard okonomiyaki that is delicious. The portion size was sufficient. Personally, I would have been happier with 3-4 shrimp without heads rather than one with a head. But overall, it was still luxurious and good.
