The cute shop with a warm and friendly atmosphere, where you can have two servings of cabbage and rice. The cabbage is thinly shredded and fresh, perfect for tonkatsu. The tonkatsu is not too thick, tender and juicy with no gristle or excess fat. The breading is light and crispy, not greasy. The curry is not too salty and has a nice spice level. Despite being a bit pricey, the quality of the food justifies it. Overall, it was delicious and satisfying.

I was walking around the garden area and trying to decide where to go. I finally decided to go to Umien, a place known for its tonkatsu in Otaru. I ordered the Umien set meal (1700 yen) for the first time. I chose the loin tonkatsu. It came with a large prawn fry and 2 vegetable fritters. The tonkatsu had less fat compared to my preference, but it was crispy, tender, and delicious. The vegetable fritters were made of pumpkin and were sweet and crispy. The large prawn was filled with juicy meat and was also delicious. The portion size was generous and I left feeling satisfied but not overly full. It's definitely a great restaurant. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I was invited to lunch but only had an hour to spare, so I decided to visit this place nearby. It's convenient because they have a parking lot. During my absence from posting, I got hooked on the demi-glace sauce here and had been eating hamburgers all the time, so this time I tried the fried food set meal "B set meal" together with a friend who ordered pork cutlet curry. The set includes pork cutlet, minced meat cutlet, shrimp fry, and fried vegetables (pumpkin). Today, the oil was well drained and everything was crispy. When I took a bite of the minced meat cutlet, the juices came out! Oh, what a happy sight. The pumpkin was thickly sliced and sweet, giving it a satisfying texture. The shrimp fry wasn't trying to hide anything with its batter - it was full of shrimp! It's been a while since I had fried food, but this place is still delicious.

The owner used to be a tonkatsu fryer at another restaurant, and the crispy tonkatsu is delicious. When I visited before, I saw a customer next to me order katsu curry, so I tried it too and it was flavorful without being too spicy. The couple who run the restaurant are very friendly, and there are lots of retro toys which create a fun atmosphere in the restaurant.

I have been to this restaurant so many times that I've lost count haha. The tonkatsu is delicious, but my favorite is the chicken katsu. Taken with iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I visited Umimono-ya, a popular tonkatsu restaurant in Otaru. It was my second visit in a year. Last time I came here for the tonkatsu but the parking lot was full so I had to give up. Today, there was only one group of customers ahead of us, so I thought, "Great, it's not crowded." But right after that, more customers came in and it quickly became full. Good timing! Today, I was in the mood for tonkatsu curry, so I ordered the pork tendon simmered tonkatsu curry (1200 yen). You can choose between fillet or loin, and I chose loin. It looked delicious from the start! The tonkatsu is thick but fluffy and tender. You can easily cut it with a round spoon from the curry. The batter is crispy. The tonkatsu here is really delicious. The curry part is not spicy at all. Even if you eat the roux by itself, it's not spicy at all. But it's delicious in its own way. This is not curry from a curry shop, but curry for enjoying tonkatsu. The texture of the pork tendon is also good. It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

It's been a while since I visited a restaurant because I haven't been out much lately. Around 2 pm, we were looking for a lunch spot but it was crowded. Then we remembered "Uminoya" and decided to go there. My friend was very hungry so they ordered the "Pork Tendon Cutlet Curry" while I walked there and ordered the "Beer Set with Eggplant Fries". The beer set was reliably delicious. The meat juice in the Menchi Katsu was amazing, and the batter stayed crispy until the end. As for the Pork Tendon Cutlet Curry, I always like the taste of their regular curry here. Of course, a curry with tendon for added richness is bound to be delicious. I want to try it with the Milfeuille Cutlet (Double Cheese) next time!

Before visiting in October 2017, I wrote in another review that for some reason, there are very few tonkatsu and tempura specialty shops in Otaru. When it comes to fried food, it's not like Otaru folks go for "Naruto" chicken half-fried... but what do the people of Otaru do when they want to eat tonkatsu? Such a silly question (lol). In the midst of this, a new tonkatsu specialty shop has opened called "Uminoya." The location is in the direction of Hanazono Street from JR Minami-Otaru Station, a little north on Hanazono Green Road. It was originally a cafe, so the interior is in a state close to being a sublease. As a result, the tables and seats are low and somewhat uncomfortable, with a feeling of needing to upgrade the seating to be more suitable for dining. The menu includes tonkatsu set meals, various fried dishes, hamburg steak, ginger grilled meat, and other items, so there is a wide variety despite being a tonkatsu specialty shop, and of course they also offer katsudon and katsu curry. This time, I had the classic "Rosu Katsu Set Meal," which comes with a 110g pork loin cutlet, rice, miso soup, and pickles. When you hear 110g, it may seem a bit lacking, but in reality, it has a decent amount of volume and is quite satisfying. Additionally, if you choose the premium loin, it comes with a 150g cutlet, so it's good to choose based on your appetite. One thing that slightly bothered me was that compared to tonkatsu specialty shops in Sapporo, there was a general feeling of dissatisfaction in various aspects. The issue with the customer seating tables mentioned earlier is one example, and there were other points where I felt a bit lacking, such as the use of tableware and table condiments. I gave a slightly strict rating with expectations, but it is also a shop that I look forward to in the future.

I felt like having tonkatsu for the first time in a while, so I came to this restaurant. It's nice to have a casual tonkatsu restaurant in Otaru that is easy to use. It's in the Hanazono area and there is parking available, which is convenient. Last time, I had the rosu katsu set, but today I felt like trying a variety of dishes. I ordered the Assorted A set meal for 1,180 yen. While waiting and listening to the sound of the katsu being fried, it was brought to me. It looks impressive! First, the shrimp fry. The shrimp is large and has a firm texture with no unpleasant smell. The batter has that distinct Izumi flavor. Delicious! Next, the oyster fry. The oysters are not too big or too small, but full of flavor. I could eat as many as I want. One bite of the fillet katsu. Despite being just one bite, the fillet meat is firm, so I took two bites to savor it. The tenderness and flavor of the meat, fillet meat is really delicious. Shrimp cream croquette. This dish pleasantly surprised me. The shrimp was delicious, and the white sauce was rich, making it a truly authentic cream croquette. The vegetable tempura was eggplant last time my companion ordered it, but this time it was pumpkin. The pumpkin had a strong sweetness, and the batter sealed in the deliciousness so well that it was impressive. I had an extra serving of rice and left feeling full and satisfied. All this for 1,180 yen is too cheap. I would gladly pay 1,500 yen for this quality. The price is so reasonable that I hope they don't change it...haha. Thank you for the meal.

On a certain holiday, I decided to go to a tonkatsu restaurant in Otaru, a little away from the bustling area. The restaurant had a compact and traditional layout with a counter seating for 5 and 3 tables. I noticed a sign saying "Photos of purchased items only allowed", and the background music was playing the Fighters' season-ending final push on the radio. I had planned to order the "Top Loin Set" but was recommended the "Pork Tendon Stew Cutlet Curry (1200 yen -> 1000 yen)" by the staff as it was tonkatsu day. The curry was not very spicy, more like a stew with tender pork tendon, and the cutlet had a crispy coating and tender loin meat. It was a delicious tonkatsu curry experience, and I look forward to trying the top loin next time. Thank you for the meal.

When living in Otaru, a flyer called "Kazeru" arrives every 20th of the month. It contains recommendations for local shops and information about Otaru, so I always look forward to the 20th to browse through the flyer. In the latest issue of Kazeru, there was a new restaurant that serves "tonkatsu," so my family and I decided to go check it out. The restaurant is located near Hanazono Green Road, just off Route 5. It opened last year in a place that used to be a coffee shop. The owner used to work at "Izumi" and is a big fan of Minoya Masahiko (there are many goods related to him in the restaurant). There is parking space for about 3 cars behind the shop. When we entered, there were a few customers already seated at the counter and table seats, so we chose table seats and placed our orders. I ordered the pork cutlet set meal (1,180 yen), while my family ordered the assorted set meal A (1,180 yen each) and the pork cutlet curry (1,000 yen). The frying sound was direct and clear due to the close distance between the kitchen and the seating area. The pork cutlet was delicious with a juicy and meaty texture. The rice, cabbage, and miso soup were a bit on the small side, but I think it's intentional to reduce waste. Refills are free up to two times, so it's sufficient. The pickles and miso soup tasted homemade and authentic. The only downside was that the 110g portion might be a bit small for some people, so I recommend ordering the premium pork cutlet (150g) for 1,450 yen. The assorted set meal A that my family ordered was very satisfying with a variety of items such as pork fillet cutlet, shrimp fry, oyster fry, shrimp cream croquette, and fried vegetables (I think it was eggplant) for 1,180 yen. Although there are no photos, the portion was generous and cost-effective. Next time, I might try the assorted set meal! The pork cutlet curry had a homely taste, and the 110g pork cutlet made it a hearty meal. The staff's friendliness made the experience even better. Tonkatsu specialty shops are rare, so this place is a great find when craving tonkatsu. On the way home, I bought a tonkatsu sandwich at the register, and it was delicious. Everything from start to finish was amazing. I discovered another wonderful restaurant in Otaru.

I went back to the restaurant again, even though I had just been there recently. The mini menu featured the "Mille-feuille for 200 yen with double the cheese!" But what caught my attention even more was the asparagus wrapped in meat. After all, it's in season (*´・ω・`)b I added it to my beer set. The beer set that arrived was surprisingly luxurious. It even came with a sample of tomato wrapped in meat! The asparagus wrapped in meat was just the right firmness, and the asparagus was sweet. The tomato wrapped in meat had a juicy fruit tomato inside and was refreshing to eat. I hope this becomes a regular menu item too.

I went for the pork sauté set meal, but then the devil's whisper from the mama saying, "You can double the cheese for just 200 yen~" got to me. Ended up ordering the mille-feuille cutlet with double cheese and a beer. As you can see in the picture, the cheese was so melty and gooey. It was amazing. While rice is good, with this much cheese, it goes well with alcohol too.

This was my first time trying Demi-glace sauce. I had been craving hamburger since morning. I was thinking of various Western-style restaurants and couldn't decide. Then suddenly I remembered "Tonkatsu-ya's Hamburger! in Uminoya." Today they had "Milfeuille Cheese Cutlet" but I didn't even look at it and ordered the "Hamburger Set Meal" without fried food for the first time. The taste of the sauce I had imagined since morning was exactly the same here! When I put my chopsticks in the middle, the meat juice overflowed. There were plenty of vegetables on the side, so I don't feel guilty. I am already captivated by Demi-glace sauce (laughs). Maybe next time I'll try the pork cutlet (bitter smile).

I finally got to visit a restaurant that I wanted to go to but couldn't for a while (* ̄▽ ̄)ノ~~ ♪ I parked in the back parking lot of the restaurant, and as soon as I walked in, there was a nice smell in the air (* ̄∇ ̄*)【Order】☆Top sirloin set meal 150 grams 1450 yen I went over my lunch budget significantly (T_T) and ordered the recommended dish from the staff~ The meat was incredibly tender ("⌒∇⌒") The batter was crispy Oh, it costs 1450 yen♪ Rice, cabbage, and miso soup can be refilled up to two times for free♪ From the third refill, it seems to cost 100 yen. I would prefer if the tonkatsu and salad were served on separate plates. It's a shame when the water from the salad gets the tonkatsu batter soggy (T_T) Next time, I want to try the jumbo shrimp♪ The service from the female staff at the restaurant is really great(^o^)v

I don't know how many times it has been, but today I made a reservation for the "Cheese Mille-feuille Cutlet and Cheese Menchi Cutlet Eating Party" (lol). I had to wait a bit because one person was running late. However, I couldn't resist and ordered beer, fried chicken, and potatoes. The fried chicken had a strong ginger flavor and was delicious. The potatoes had garlic, which was a pleasant surprise. It went well with the beer. Finally, when all four of us were together, we enjoyed the long-awaited "Cheese Mille-feuille Cutlet" and "Cheese Menchi Cutlet" set. Despite being fried and cheesy, and after eating fried chicken and potatoes, I was worried if I could finish it all. But I was able to eat it all without any problems. The mille-feuille was light and airy, while the menchi cutlet was more dense. However, the cheese in the menchi cutlet was more gooey. Maybe because it was trapped inside? I wish these two dishes were regular menu items.

I finally visited Umimoya, a tonkatsu restaurant that opened in the flower garden last November. The menu is quite extensive. I was curious about many items, but I decided to go with the tonkatsu first. I ordered the loin cutlet set meal. The meat is tender and the coating is crispy, very delicious! The rice, miso soup, and cabbage are all-you-can-eat, and when I was asked if I wanted a refill, I gladly accepted the offer for more miso soup. It was so tasty. Also, when sitting at the counter, I noticed a signature of Minoya Masahiko right in front of me. It said to feel free to approach if you are a fan, so he must have quite a following. On the way out, after paying, I was given deep-fried rusk made from bread crumbs. It must be from the tonkatsu sandwich bread crumbs next to the cash register. I ate it at home later, and it was crunchy, sweet, and delicious. The taste was great, the service was thoughtful, and it's a restaurant that makes you want to go back. Actually, I will definitely go back.
