I visited a popular bakery in Otaru in October 2022. I was surprised to find that it had a similar atmosphere to the popular Kameju Bakery in Otaru, with a nostalgic Showa era feel. I ordered a croquette bread, and the owner kindly poured sauce over it. The croquette was a vegetable croquette with Worcestershire sauce, and it was delicious with slices of cucumber and boiled egg on top. It was a simple and tasty sandwich.

I wonder why I entered. The door was wide open, so I could see inside well and there were various kinds of bread, so I got absorbed in looking at them and then the old lady came out and I ended up buying something. The raisin bread had a margarine, common taste. It was a nostalgic bread that matched the atmosphere, like something from the Showa era. Thank you for the meal.

This place reminds me of when I used to eat a lot as a kid. Every time I go back to my hometown, I make sure to stop by. Lately, I've been really into melon bread and curry bread! They always have samples of just the melon bread head, so I end up trying it every time haha. It's so delicious and I love it, so I even asked, "Do you sell this?" Unfortunately, it seems they don't sell it. What a shame. I really wish they would sell it.

I went to a bakery in Otaru after finishing work in the early morning. They had a variety of bread, including coppe bread. I tried the Butter Bread, which was soft and slightly sweet, with a perfect balance of buttery flavor. I also tried the Sausage Bread, which had a crispy fried fish sausage inside. Both were delicious! I will definitely try their Cheese Bread next time. Thank you, Tomowa Bakery!

Walking around Otaru City, the first stop was a bakery that I had heard was quite old, dating back to 1952. Despite not usually eating bread, I decided to try their cheese roll for the sake of my food blog. The bakery is loved by the locals, with schoolgirls buying lunch and snacks there. I visited around 11am, and since the bread for the day wasn't ready yet, all items in the showcase were discounted by 30%. I chose the cheese roll as it seemed like it would last until the next day. Surprisingly, it was delicious when I had it as an afternoon snack at 3pm.

This is Inaho, Otaru City. Second stop on my solo tour of Otaru! I searched for a burger shop near the station that is open in the morning and found Tomowa no Pan. It's Yuwa, not Tomokazu. I used to live in Otaru, and this bakery has always been here! I used to buy bread here often on my way back from work and have it for breakfast. It brings back so many memories, I feel rejuvenated! I bought a pork cutlet sandwich for 190 yen, but since it was from yesterday, I got a 30 yen discount and paid 160 yen. I put it in a Doraemon backpack and later enjoyed it at a nearby food court. The cutlet was thin like the ones sold at candy stores, with shredded cabbage and sauce giving it that nostalgic taste. The parsley in the middle added a nice touch, reminding me of the past. It was delicious! This cheap vibe is just indescribable! Grandpa, keep up the good work! Thank you for the meal!

I actually wanted to eat the squid menchi at the central market, but it's only available from 1:00 PM. It's currently 10:00 AM, so I went to this nearby bakery instead. However, when I entered, they were only selling yesterday's bread at a discount as part of their food loss prevention measures. I bought a pork cutlet curry for 190 yen and a curry donut for 160 yen, both discounted to 290 yen. It was a great deal! The pork cutlet curry was delicious, and when asked if I wanted sauce on top, I said yes. I ate it for lunch after taking a walk in Yoichi that day, and it was amazing! The curry donut was also filled with plenty of ingredients. I will definitely go back to eat there again!

In May 2020, I visited a bakery in Otaru, starting from Otaru Station and walking down the main street towards the sea. On the right side, there is an arcade called "Machiya-dori Shotengai," while turning left leads to an area with the Central Market and renowned sushi and fried chicken shops. Both areas are located in a district called Inaho. Just past the Central Market, you'll see a bakery that looks straight out of the Showa era. This bakery specializes in homemade bread, with a variety of savory and sweet options displayed in old-fashioned glass cases. I'm sure the locals in the neighborhood must have grown up eating bread from this place. I tried the egg salad and vegetable salad bread rolls, which were served in nostalgic paper bags. The bread was crispy and delicious, perfect for a simple breakfast the next day. When I asked the lady at the store about their days off, she mentioned that the bakery is closed only on Sundays, but they sell discounted bread from the previous day on Sundays. It's a laid-back but charming tradition to sell day-old bread at a reduced price. This kind of old-fashioned shop is what makes Otaru unique.

I visited the bakery right after it opened at 7:00 am, but I didn't smell much bread baking. Turns out, the freshly baked bread isn't ready until 10:00 am. The bread being sold was from yesterday, but they offered a 30 yen discount per piece. I decided to try the butter sandwich and the pork cutlet and egg sandwich. The butter sandwich had slices of Snow Brand butter sandwiched between two types of bread - sweet and plain. I chose the plain one and it had a refreshing flavor as the owner had mentioned. The pork cutlet and egg sandwich had a thin pork cutlet and egg salad inside. They also offer a variety of other cutlet sandwiches and will add sauce upon purchase. I would like to try the freshly baked bread next time. Thank you for the meal.

On the way to eat sea urchin rice bowl in Yoichi, we stopped by this old-fashioned shop that had a similar atmosphere to Otaru. When we visited early in the morning, they offered a discount of 30 yen per piece as it was leftover from the previous day. The cheese roll (160 yen) was a fluffy bread with cheese inside, covered with plenty of powdered cheese on the surface. The cheese flavor was strong and enjoyable. The butter bread (160 yen) had solid butter slices inside, but due to the hot weather, the butter had melted by the time we ate it. It still tasted delicious with the melted butter, but I wished I could have tried it with the solid butter intact. I wonder if the shop owner is named Yuwa-san? (laughs) Traditional bread like this is rare nowadays, so I hope the shop owner stays healthy and keeps up the good work!

Fourth stop on the food tour in Otaru... Ate soba at "Arata", had coffee at "Freelance", bought side dishes at "Koji Niku-ten", then headed to "Tomowa no Pan" bakery. The retro look of the store front caught my eye, so I went in. The door had a bell that chimed as I entered, and the owner greeted me. The bread was displayed in a case. I tried the "Otaru Curry Donut" and the "Melon Pan". The curry donut was a bit oily and not very spicy. The Melon Pan had sugar on top but wasn't too sweet. It got a bit squished since I carried it around, but the texture was moist and fluffy, making it a tasty treat. Thank you for the meal.

On a certain holiday, following last week's trip to Otaru, I visited a bakery in Inaho, Otaru City, which had a perfect old-fashioned charm. The atmosphere inside the store did not disappoint, with bread displayed in a glass showcase. That day, the owner informed me that all the products on display were 30 yen off because they weren't freshly made. I chose a few items that caught my eye. The "Bean Bread (130 yen→100 yen)" didn't show the presence of beans on the surface, but inside, there were firm adzuki beans, and although it wasn't freshly made, it was soft with a slight dryness in the bread. The "Butter Bread (150 yen→120 yen)" was a coppe-style bread with a salty, long slice of butter inside. I also bought the "Marmalade (130 yen→100 yen)" because I was intrigued by the marmalade jam visible from the outside. It had a strong sweetness and acidity, which was nostalgic and refreshing. I realized that despite a similar situation to a bakery I visited in Akashin recently, each bakery has its own unique bread offerings. Thank you for the meal.

Yuwawaya is a long-established bakery in Otaru. When you enter, you are greeted by a friendly old lady. The bakery offers a variety of bread, from savory to sweet. I bought a sandwich with potato salad and cutlet, and a curry bread. The old lady asked if I wanted sauce on my sandwich, and she added it for me. The thin cutlet in the sandwich went well with the bread. The curry bread had a thick, wheat flour-based curry filling with large chunks of minced meat. The seasoning was not too strong, making it a light curry. The curry bread was in the shape of Currypanman, a classic style. It's a perfect snack for kids. The bakery seems to be popular among locals and is a place where three generations can enjoy together.

When I was in elementary school, I used to visit my mother's hometown of Otaru every year. It has become quiet now, but back then the shopping streets were bustling. Yuwa Bakery still looks the same as it did back then, both on the outside and inside, and it brings back nostalgic memories. I used to enjoy their cream puffs, sandwich bread, and curry bread with macaroni filling. Whenever I visit Otaru, I always make sure to stop by Yuwa Bakery and Nari-san's half-fried young chicken.

I was curious about the Showa era bread! But I went at a bad time. It was 10:30 when I passed by for lunch. There was a note saying "Yesterday's bread. Discounted." What?! Yesterday's... But oh well. I had curry bread, tonkatsu bread, and egg bread. I ate them before taking a picture. I thought the bread might be hard by now, but surprisingly it was soft and easy to eat. It's a traditional Showa-era style bread. I want to try it fresh next time.

When I went to Otaru, I visited a bakery that I had been wanting to go to. While strolling around Otaru, I started to feel a little hungry, so I headed to the bakery to buy some bread. The shop had a vibe of a store that sells various items such as food and goods, which you often see in the countryside. The entrance of the shop had a vinyl roof that seemed to expand and contract. I don't see this type of roof very often these days. When I entered the shop, the owner came out from the back. It was around 3 PM when I visited. I thought they would be sold out of bread by then, but to my surprise, there were various types of bread displayed in the showcase. The Curry Bread (160 yen) was a bread roll filled with curry. When I see this type of bread, it reminds me of the dry bread I used to eat as a child. However, this bread was moist and fluffy, not dry at all. The curry had a good amount of filling and was delicious, even though it wasn't spicy. The Ham and Egg Bread (160 yen) had thinly sliced ham and boiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise. This bread was also fluffy and moist. It had a good amount of saltiness, and the mayo-coated boiled egg whites with a slightly firm texture made it a tasty bread.

I visited the restaurant after reading a review from someone I follow, and it brought back nostalgic memories. The building and store looked exactly the same as before, which was nice. I was looking for the butter bread that I used to eat a lot, and luckily they still had it. When I arrived, there were many types of bread, but I couldn't find the one I wanted. I asked the staff and they made it for me right away. It seems like they make it to order. The butter bread cost 150 yen and the pork cutlet sandwich cost 180 yen. They asked if I wanted sauce on the sandwich (the image shows it with sauce). The butter bread was simple but delicious, with a slight sweetness to the bread. Two pieces of bread for lunch wasn't enough for me, so I was still hungry afterwards.

Cheese sandwich for 170 yen and croquette sandwich for 160 yen. Today is Sunday, so Kametou Pan is closed. I visited a retro-style bakery with around 6 types of bread. It seems they don't bake bread on Sundays, so they sell discounted leftover items from the day before. I tried the Cheese Sandwich, which was simple but delicious with soft bread, ham, cheese, and lettuce. The Croquette Sandwich was almost entirely made of sweet potato croquette, giving off a nostalgic homemade taste. Overall, it was a satisfying experience.
