I visited the long-established Osaka Grill in the Shin-Umeda Food Street. This was my first time here, even though I often visit the Shin-Umeda Food Street. The exterior has a retro Showa-era vibe with sample displays, and inside, there is a small ticket machine and functional U-shaped counter seats, giving it a casual and welcoming atmosphere. The menu includes their specialty, Volga, as well as daily specials, rice bowls, katsu-don, sauce katsu-don, shrimp fry-don, grated helle katsu-don, omurice, curry rice, hamburger steak set, katsu curry, shrimp fry set, helle katsu set, beef katsu set, special set, double katsu set, and more. The daily rice bowl is always the shrimp helle katsu-don, which is a well-known fact. I ordered their most popular dish, the Volga, with a medium portion of rice. It arrived in about 6 minutes, looking deliciously brown-dominated. The Volga rice came with a side salad and miso soup. The Volga rice is essentially a katsu-topped omurice, with ketchup rice as the base, topped with an omelet and katsu, then drizzled with demi-glace sauce. The taste was as expected, but the demi-glace sauce was the highlight. The overall flavor was slightly mild, with no salty taste in the egg. The onion miso soup had a traditional taste, making the meal a unique blend of Japanese and Western flavors. I would like to try other dishes here again. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.
