Today, I visited a restaurant that my girlfriend wanted to go to. It was located on the second floor and a bit hard to find, but it was packed with customers. We were seated at a table without much of a wait. We ordered the Mapo Tofu with fresh cod, fried dumplings, and 5 pieces of Zangi. The Mapo Tofu arrived in about 10 minutes and it was amazing! The perfect balance of spicy and flavorful. The fresh cod was tender and creamy, with no fishy taste, and paired perfectly with the Mapo Tofu. I never thought that Mapo Tofu and fresh cod would go so well together. About 5 minutes later, the Zangi and fried dumplings arrived. The Zangi was large, crispy, and not greasy at all. The chicken was juicy and tender, and tasted delicious dipped in the sweet and sour sauce. The fried dumplings had a chewy skin, flavorful filling with chives, and were juicy and tasty. The Chinese food here is too good!

When I happened to go to the shop, I found out that starting today they are serving the Mapo rice dish made with cod sperm that I wanted to try last year. I didn't hesitate to order it! Instead of tofu, they used the sperm sac of cod, known as "Tachi," which made the dish creamy and slightly spicy. I wish it was a bit spicier and hotter, but the other set meals are also generous and reasonably priced, so I would like to come back again!

Visited on August 19, 2023! Shrimp fried rice for 1,200 yen and Zangi for 180 yen. Located on the second floor of a building in the market, it's a hidden gem because it's hard to find. The shrimp fried rice had delicious plump shrimp and fluffy rice, and the Zangi was also incredibly tasty.

Zangi is a super famous restaurant. They have several locations in Sapporo city. I have visited the main store, the Red Brick Terrace store, and the Fukurokuju store. The location of the market store is a bit hard to find on the second floor of the Central Wholesale Market, and their operating hours are from 8:00 to 14:00. I visited around 12:00 on a weekday and the restaurant was almost full, but I managed to get a seat as customers were coming and going. The interior of the restaurant has a slightly stylish atmosphere with counter seats and table seats. Many customers seemed to be related to the market. They have a menu with special items only available at the market store, such as "Hiyashi Chuka (cold noodles, 900 yen)" and "Chinese porridge." I was torn between these options, but ended up ordering the classic set meal "B set meal (990 yen)." It came with 3 pieces of Zangi, mapo tofu, soup, salad, pickles, and rice. It took about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The freshly fried Zangi with sweet vinegar was delicious! The mapo tofu had a lot of starch, but it was still good. The soup was a crab broth egg soup, which was fitting for a market restaurant. The portion size of rice was generous, and overall, the meal was satisfying. The highlight was definitely the delicious Zangi. If I were to visit the same restaurant again, I would like to try the limited menu items next time, maybe the Chinese porridge with a side of Zangi.

◾️Black vinegar sweet and sour pork set meal for 950 yen. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market morning market, but I had trouble finding the stairs to go up to the 2nd floor. I was curious about the duck rice, but I don't really like duck meat, so this time I chose sweet and sour pork. The famous large zangi was also included, so I was satisfied! The Chinese food at the market has a sophisticated feel, and it's nice to have once in a while.

After finishing a seafood bowl, I finally had the chance to visit this restaurant in Hokkaido that I had been wanting to go to. The location was a bit hard to find and carrying my suitcase up to the second floor was tough...! Finally, I arrived and it was around 11 o'clock, so the place was about 80% full. I was seated at the counter and was pleasantly surprised to see power outlets available! So convenient...!! I ordered Zangi (3 pieces), spring rolls, and a medium bottle of beer. The beer was served in a chilled glass, which made me very happy. They also brought pickled vegetables as a side dish, which was refreshing and delicious. Both dishes were fried, so it took a bit of time. While waiting, I noticed they had a breakfast menu, which all looked so appetizing! I actually wanted to try the breakfast menu more than the seafood bowl. The fried chicken arrived, and it was huge! There wasn't much explanation about the sauce, but I assumed I was supposed to dip it in. The crispy coating was excellent, but the meat (probably chicken breast) was not my favorite. It didn't have much flavor on its own, so dipping it in the sauce was the way to go. Next, the spring rolls arrived, piping hot and filled with gooey filling and crunchy vegetables. Delicious! I prefer to have mustard with my spring rolls, but unfortunately, there were no condiments on the table. The large portion of 3 fried chicken pieces filled me up, so I called it a day. Thank you for the meal.

I ordered fried rice for the first time at Futo-san. But, I still wanted to eat zangi. So I asked for an additional piece. The fried rice at Futo-san is really good, with ingredients like clams and other seafood adding to the flavor. The zangi was also delicious as always. I enjoyed the meal. Thank you.

The restaurant is open from 8:00 to 14:00 with a different menu from the main branch. They offer a dish called "Shiraleba Nira" which includes white liver, leeks, bean sprouts, red pepper, and sliced garlic. The white liver is coated in flour, tender, and has no unpleasant odor. It has a slightly spicy taste with a soy sauce base. It comes with one piece of Zangi, which was a bonus as it wasn't listed on the menu. The homemade sauce with a tangy flavor pairs well with the dish. The freshly cooked rice is delicious. The soup with beaten eggs has a shrimp flavor. The salad consists of cabbage, watercress, and tomatoes. The pickled cucumber is also tasty. I would like to come back to try other menu items as well.

I was turned away by two restaurants near the off-market area, so I asked for help from Hotei-san. I usually go for the B set meal, but this time I tried the "Black Vinegar Pork Set Meal" for the first time. But don't worry, it still comes with one piece of zangi haha. The black vinegar sauce is refreshing and delicious when mixed with the fried pork and vegetables. The zangi is also big. The soup has dried cherry shrimp in it, giving it a fantastic aroma. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Today, after finishing a meeting at the market, I had lunch at Fuboto. I used to get their Zangi for takeout when they first opened, but this was my first time dining in. The atmosphere inside was quite calm and perfect for a leisurely meal, with mostly market-related people dining there. I was tempted to order the Zangi set, but decided to try something different and ordered the Oyakodon set instead. The set comes with a side of mapo tofu, which I really like. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, and I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size of the Oyakodon. The crispy fried chicken thigh with tangy sauce was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the generous amount of green onions on top. However, I was a bit disappointed by the mapo tofu today, as it was sweeter than usual and lacked the usual spiciness. It didn't quite complement the rice as well as I had hoped. Overall, a satisfying meal with a few unexpected twists.

Hotei-san, famous for their Zangi, the main store in Chuo-ku is always crowded with a long wait, but the shop inside Chuo Market is surprisingly easy to get into. Here, they mainly serve "Zangi set meals". There are options for 6 pieces of Zangi (A) and 3 pieces (B), but the 6-piece option is quite filling, so I always go for the 3-piece option. It's just enough. For less than 1000 yen, you also get a small portion of mapo tofu and salad, which is very much appreciated. You can choose between regular mapo tofu and seafood mapo tofu. The crispy fried Zangi is delicious, and the sauce that comes with it has a nice aroma. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.

I used the takeout service at the Sapporo Station store before and it was delicious, so I visited the Chuo Market store. The zangi is amazing, freshly fried and worth burning your mouth for. The sauce is so good you'll want to drink it. The an sauce yakisoba and mapo tofu I ordered together were also delicious. Each dish is around 1000 yen, so the cost performance is excellent. It's a bit hard to find as it's on the second floor of the building in the morning market area, but that adds to its hidden gem charm.

I heard that there is a Fuboto restaurant in Sapporo Market, so I decided to visit on a weekday at lunchtime. First of all, it was difficult to find the restaurant, and when I arrived at 12:40, there was a line outside (although it was inside the building). I waited for about 15 minutes, and finally got in. Just like any other Fuboto restaurant, it was crowded! The menu consisted of seafood dishes rather than the usual dishes found in other Fuboto restaurants. I ordered the usual set of mapo tofu and zangi, but this time they asked if I wanted regular mapo tofu or seafood mapo tofu. Of course, I chose the seafood mapo tofu! After waiting for a while, the food arrived. The soup even had crab in it! The zangi also seemed bigger than usual. The taste was delicious! The seafood mapo tofu was especially tasty! The soup was also amazing! It felt like a different restaurant from the usual Fuboto restaurant. I now understand why it's always crowded! I discovered a new favorite restaurant that I will definitely visit again!

Located in a hidden spot on the second floor of the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market off-market, is Fuhou-san. This charming restaurant opens at 8 am, serving breakfast ramen and seafood Chinese dishes from the early morning. This time, I aimed for the breakfast ramen and chose the "Seafood Mapo Men" from the five ramen options. Seafood Mapo Men (900 yen) [Soup] The amount of soup is small. After taking a bite, I thought to myself, "Oh no, what have I done?" I silently thought that I should have gone with the regular Mapo Men. Compared to the original store's Mapo Men, this lacked both flavor and spiciness, which was disappointing. As I continued eating, the minced meat was delicious, but all the seafood was thawed, so it lacked the seafood flavor. Considering the price is only slightly higher than the regular Mapo Men at 880 yen, I became suspicious, but since it's located in the central market, I had high expectations. It's not bad by any means, but I recommend trying a different ramen. [Noodles] The medium-thick curly noodles with high water content are typical of Sapporo-style Chinese noodles. The draining process is often lacking, but they are tasty enough. [Overall] Other seafood Chinese dishes may benefit from the fresh seafood available at the market, as I saw other customers enjoying their meals. If I have the chance, I will try a different seafood ramen next time. Surprisingly, there were many elderly customers. I had to wait at the register. Thank you for the meal!

When I returned to Sapporo, I decided to visit a branch of a famous Chinese restaurant located in the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market. The building had a sign for "Sapporo Morning Market" and on the first floor, there were various shops and eateries open to the general public. The restaurant I was looking for was on the second floor, and after following the signs, I found my way to "Chinese Cuisine Fuhou." The restaurant was known for its popular dish called Zangi, which is marinated fried chicken. The interior had a cozy atmosphere with retro-style light bulbs, and due to COVID-19 measures, the tables were spaced out. I ordered the Oil-Drizzled Chicken Set meal, which was delicious. The menu also featured unique dishes like seafood congee with oysters, sea urchin, abalone, and king crab. Overall, the restaurant offered a variety of Chinese dishes with a focus on seafood, making it a must-visit spot in Sapporo.

When it comes to fried chicken in a pouch, it's all about the zangi! The portion size is no joke. You can enjoy it while changing the taste with the included sweet vinegar sauce. The crispy texture of the coating and the moist fried meat are hard to replicate at home, haha. The mapo noodles are also incredibly delicious! I saw Chihara Junior eating them on Tokui's YouTube video and wanted to try them, so I was very happy to come across them. However, the overall portion size is huge, so if you can't finish it, take it home. An additional 100 yen for the container! Perhaps due to the location, the restaurant was also empty, allowing me to enjoy my meal leisurely. This is the most satisfying restaurant I've been to since the udon shop Komugi in Hachiken, haha. In terms of taste, service, quality of water, level of crowding, seating arrangement, etc... it's a high-quality, top-notch restaurant in every aspect!

On Saturday at 9 am, I visited the branch of the famous Chinese restaurant Fuhou, located on the second floor of Maruka Building in the back of the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market. Despite my prior research, it was not easy to find, and it's unlikely that someone unfamiliar with the area would stumble upon it. The decision to open a branch here seems a bit unconventional, especially considering the lack of foot traffic compared to the bustling first floor wholesale shops. They offer Chinese porridge and pho in addition to their signature A and B set meals, which may not be typical breakfast choices for most people. I was there for their ramen, specifically the "old-fashioned soy sauce ramen" priced at 750 yen. The broth was clear with minimal oil, and the toppings included seaweed, fish cake, char siu, and green onions. The noodles were firm and straight, with a good saltiness to the broth. Although I slightly regret not ordering their famous zangi (fried chicken), I refrained as this was only my second stop in my morning ramen series. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I walked 5 minutes from Sapporo Nijo Market and had sushi at the "Sapporo Asaichi" morning market. This morning market is a hidden gem. My goal was to visit another branch of the well-known "Hotei" for their famous zangi. The main store in the city center is a famous store with a long history! I couldn't believe I could eat Hotei's zangi around the market area, so I had to go there. I passed through the morning market and found my way to the second floor from the back. It's not a place you stumble upon, you have to aim for it. I ordered the zangi (5 pieces) for 700 yen. It was past 12:30 and there were no tourists in sight, so lucky for me! The interior of the restaurant was clean compared to the market. Since it's mainly for people working at the morning market, the restaurant closes at 2 pm. I realized it would be risky to order a set meal for lunch, and although I don't drink alcohol, I decided to go for the zangi a la carte. The zangi arrived hot and crispy, and when I took a bite, it was juicy and delicious! Each piece was quite big, so even though I ordered them a la carte, it was more than enough. I was worried if I could finish all 5 pieces, but I managed to do so by changing the flavor with some oyakodon sauce. I was very satisfied and full. The TV in the restaurant was showing the high school baseball game between Hachinohe Gakuin Kosei and Aikodai Meiden, and unfortunately, Aomori lost in a walk-off. However, the customers from Hokkaido were cheering for both teams from Tohoku, showing the bond between Hokkaido and Tohoku. Thank you for the meal! [Tabelog rating] 3.37 [Tanuki rating (lunch)] Overall...40 points Atmosphere...7 points Food...8 points Menu variety...9 points Cost performance...8 points Likelihood to revisit...8 points

Visited the restaurant aiming for the limited discount of 680 yen until 11:00. Arrived around 10:00 and the parking lot was almost full. However, there are parking lots in various places around the market, so it's possible to find a suitable one depending on your needs. Walked through the market and up to the second floor of the building. It was a bit hard to find. When I reached the restaurant, it was quite spacious. I ordered the seafood ma po rice and 3 pieces of zangi. Unfortunately, only the zangi arrived as the order was not properly taken. Quite disappointing. Finally, the dishes arrived. They were quite generous in portion. The ma po rice had a sweet sauce with scallops and clams, giving it a delicious flavor. The zangi was large and tasty, but too much for one person. I ended up regretting not just ordering the ma po rice. I left some rice and soup unfinished. It was my first visit, and I enjoyed the familiar taste of Fuhou. However, next time I might just go for the regular ma po rice.

Fifth day of my business trip in Sapporo. It's the day I fly back to Tokyo in the afternoon. While waiting for my laundry to dry, I took a walk to Sapporo Central Wholesale Market and visited the Fukuro Central Market Store for brunch. It's located about a 10-minute walk from Nijuyonken Station or Kuoen Station. Fukuro is a popular Chinese restaurant known for their amazing Zangi (fried chicken). In recent years, they have been actively expanding their locations, and in April 2021, they opened a store inside the Central Wholesale Market! It's amazing to be able to have Zangi for breakfast! I arrived around 10:10 am. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the Maruka Building where the market is located, but the staircase to the 2nd floor is tucked away at the back of the building. There are about 20 seats available at the counter and tables. There were 2 groups of 3 customers already seated. I chose a table for 4 by myself. The table was set with chopsticks, spoons, ladles, toothpicks, and a box of tissues, and water was served after I sat down. While there were special menu items only available at this location, I decided to stick with Fukuro's famous Zangi that I have almost every month. This time, I ordered the following: - Seafood Mapo Rice for 900 yen → 680 yen (special price until 11:00 am) - Zangi (5 pieces) for 650 yen, totaling 1,330 yen. The dishes arrived in about 8 minutes. I started with the beloved Zangi. The outside was crispy while the inside was juicy and tender. Be careful as the hot meat juice can splash out! I recommend not rushing and letting the first piece soak in the delicious special sauce, allowing the flavors to blend while cooling down a bit. This Zangi is only 130 yen per piece, which is an amazing deal! I wish they would sell it in convenience stores nationwide! The Seafood Mapo Rice came with egg soup. There was a generous amount of ingredients compared to the rice, including tofu, minced meat, clams, and scallops. The spiciness was quite mild, but the seasoning was decent. At the special price of 680 yen until 11:00 am, the cost performance is great. The Central Market Store is open from 8:00 to 14:00, making it convenient for breakfast or brunch on check-out day. Start your day with Fukuro's Zangi and immerse yourself in waves of satisfaction and indulgence!
