Omurice is gentle and warm. It is born from kindness towards people. I finally had the chance to visit the original restaurant that has been serving Omurice for over 100 years. Long ago, at a "bakery dining hall," there was a regular customer with a weak stomach who only ate egg dishes. The owner, who cared for this regular customer, served a dish where ketchup rice was thinly wrapped in cooked egg. That was the beginning of Omurice. A meal made with care is the most delicious. Located about a 10-minute walk from Namba Station on the Osaka Municipal Subway Midosuji Line, the Hokusei Honten main store has moved to a wooden building that exudes history. As you slide open the door, you will quickly feel like you have traveled back in time. You leave your shoes in the wooden shoe box and are guided to a tatami room with high ceilings, overlooking a courtyard. The menu offers a variety of Omurice. I asked the gentle waitress for the original flavor, Chicken Omurice. I also ordered the Crab Cream Croquette. Soon, the Chicken Omurice was served! The perfectly cooked egg wrapped around the rice with plenty of tomato sauce. The egg was beautifully cooked without any burnt edges. The Chicken Rice had a subtle flavor of broth rather than ketchup. The generous amount of tomato sauce had a velvety texture with a soft and rich tomato flavor. It was nostalgic yet different, simple yet unique. This is the original taste that started the lineage of Omurice. And then, I took a bite of the Crab Cream Croquette. Yes, this is also gentle. The creamy crab filling was crispy on the outside. The white sauce slowly reveals the taste of crab. The tomato sauce matched perfectly with the Omurice. Omurice that transcends time. This taste will continue to be cherished forever. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I had lunch at Hokusei, the birthplace of omurice. There was a long line even before the 11:30 opening. The retro atmosphere of the main store in Shinsaibashi was enjoyable. I felt happy adding shrimp fry and fried chicken to my omurice.

I ordered omurice with fried shrimp for 1580 yen at Kuidaore Yokocho. It was delicious. The atmosphere of the place seemed intentionally old-fashioned, with peeling wallpaper that made me want to fix it, but I think the charm of Kuidaore Yokocho lies in its retro vibe. It was too hot outside, so I was grateful to be able to sit inside and drink plenty of water. Thank you for your help.

I was staying at a hotel and saw a curtain with "Origin of Omurice" written on it near the hotel. As a fan of Omurice, I ended up going to that restaurant instead of my original plan. The taste was gentle and comforting, nothing extraordinary but I could see why it's considered the original Omurice. It was an interesting experience.

I'm sure I've eaten at some branch in the past, but my son wanted to eat omurice, so we came here. The building has a charming atmosphere that doesn't seem like it's in Amerikamura. I ordered a set of hamburger and omurice. The rice had mushrooms in it. The sauce was not demi-glace or tomato-based, but rather had a thick texture and tangy flavor. The ketchup rice inside had a nice fluffy texture. The basic taste of the omurice was outstanding. My son also almost finished his basic omurice and was happily saying how delicious it was. Thank you for the meal!

Established in 1922, this famous restaurant is known for being the original creator of omurice. Located north of Amerikamura in Nishi-Shinsaibashi, the beloved omurice originated in Japan at this very establishment. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted with a spacious, traditional Japanese interior that exudes a sense of comfort. The entrance is adorned with numerous autographs of celebrities. I ordered the set menu's special omurice for 1630 yen, along with a drink for 300 yen. You can choose from three types of omurice: the most popular being chicken omurice, followed by hayashi omurice, and beef curry omurice. The set also includes a small beef stew, salad, and shrimp fry as side dishes. The omurice is wrapped in a thin omelette over simple ketchup rice, giving it a nostalgic touch. The sauce is a tomato sauce with a mild acidity, which complements the dish well. The portion size is average, so I recommend opting for a larger portion if you are a male customer.

While walking from Amerikamura to Dotonbori, I stumbled upon a restaurant that is said to be the birthplace of omurice in Osaka. I wanted to try it, but the line outside the shop was long. I checked in and waited for my turn while exploring nearby shops. After about an hour, it was my turn to enter the restaurant. I enjoyed a delicious omurice that stayed true to the basics in a tatami room at the back. The thin omelette over the chicken rice had a gentle flavor. I wonder if omurice has always been this delicious from the start. The curry and hayashi were also tasty. I unexpectedly had a great meal.

Actually, I had never been to Hokkyokusei before, but I finally went (lol). I lined up 10 minutes before opening and there were about 6 people in front of me. When they opened, I entered. The majority of customers were foreigners (lol). I put my shoes in the shoebox and entered the store. I decided to try the most popular dish, the chicken omelette rice! Since I'm from Osaka, I also ordered a mixed juice sour (lol). It had a classic taste that was very satisfying. It was heartwarming. ♡

- Date and Time, Crowdedness: Weekday, before 1 pm. There were 4 groups waiting, but we were seated in about 5 minutes. The restaurant issues waiting tickets through their system.
- Location: Near Namba Station to the north, close to Ebisu Bridge.
- Food Review:
- Omelette Rice Hamburg Set: 1,400 yen
- Miso Soup: 100 yen
The omelette on the omelette rice was fluffy, and although the egg was thinly wrapped, it felt fluffier compared to other places. The chicken rice inside had a subtle ketchup flavor, not overpowering, but delicious. The ketchup sauce also had a nostalgic taste without being too strong. As the original, it offers a simple and tasty flavor!

Lunch in Shinsaibashi. It was a bit past lunchtime and I found a place called Hokkyokusei Shinsaibashi Honten on Tabelog. It was my first time eating at Hokkyokusei, even though I knew the name because I'm from Osaka. I didn't know there was a main branch in Shinsaibashi. It's a traditional-looking building in the middle of the city. Even though it was past lunchtime, there were still 5 groups of people waiting. I didn't have to wait long to be seated. I ordered the special omurice set with a drink for ¥2130 (tax included). The omurice came with mushrooms, and I chose a draft beer for my drink. The set also included beef kalbi with barbecue sauce, shrimp fry, and squid wrapped in shiso leaf fry. It was my first experience at Hokkyokusei.

I heard that the origin of omurice is at a restaurant in Shinsaibashi called "Hokkyokusei," so I went there. I arrived at the restaurant at 3:30 PM, so the place was quite empty. They offer continuous service, so as long as you avoid peak times, you shouldn't have to wait on any day of the week. On this day, I had the hayashi omurice with an additional topping of cheese. It took about 8 minutes from ordering to serving. The dish looked just like I imagined, and when I tasted it, it had the exact flavor of omurice with hayashi sauce. Even though it was my first time trying it, it felt like a familiar taste, but that's understandable since it's the original. In a way, it shows that the original taste has spread exactly as it is throughout the country. The only thing that surprised me was the thinness of the egg. I was impressed by how they could wrap it with such thinness. It's just a normal delicious dish, not a memorable flavor, so I recommend it when you're looking for a classic taste. Thank you for the meal.

I was born and raised in Osaka, but I visited the long-established restaurant Hokkyokusei for the first time. The exterior and interior of the restaurant had an antique design that seemed to have survived the war, exuding a strong sense of tradition. After the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign tourists flocked in, and we waited for about 30 minutes. My companion and I ordered the classic chicken omelette rice, the beef curry omelette rice with a hint of spice, and some fried chicken. The chicken omelette rice came with three shrimp tempura pieces in a special sauce, offering a gentle and nostalgic flavor that made me want to keep eating it. The beef curry omelette rice had a strong spice aroma, but surprisingly, the mild taste when mixed with the egg made it irresistible. The fried chicken had a well-balanced seasoning that was not greasy, making it a delicious and satisfying dish. If you enjoy traditional Western-style dishes in a calm atmosphere without seeking extravagance, I recommend this place. Waiting in line was worth it!

I visited the main store of Hokkyokusei, which I had never been to before. I ordered a petit plate with shrimp fry, chicken karaage, and salad. For the omurice, you could choose from chicken, mushrooms, or ham. I chose mushrooms, which I thought was quite unique. The omurice had a rich tomato sauce with ketchup rice inside, and it had shimeji and surprisingly shiitake mushrooms in it. It had a nostalgic feel with a sense of a long-established restaurant. The side chicken karaage was surprisingly delicious. The relaxed atmosphere was very nice.

I visited the main store of Hokkyokusei, where there is always a long line. As I entered the store, I noticed many autographs of famous people displayed at the entrance. I was guided to a private room through a corridor with a charming courtyard. The menu had many delicious options, but I decided to order the fried chicken set for lunch. The tomato sauce had a gentle flavor, and the egg was thinly cooked but fluffy and very tasty.

On this rainy holiday, I enjoyed a movie and shopping in Namba before heading towards Shinsaibashi. I was in the mood for omurice, so I went to Hokkyokusei. Since it was the main store, I visited a little early for dinner time. The retro atmosphere of the restaurant is popular among tourists. The seating is in a traditional Japanese style, which is very relaxing. This time, I ordered the Katsu Hayashi Omurice and Petit Omurice set. The soft, thinly cooked egg and moist chicken rice went well with the Hayashi sauce and tomato sauce. It's a taste that always brings back nostalgic memories. The fried food was crispy and juicy, making it delicious. Sharing and trying different dishes is enjoyable. They also have weekday and lunch menus, so it might be worth stopping by spontaneously.

When you bring the Mushroom Omelette Rice up to your mouth, you can already smell the nice aroma of the egg. At first glance, the color may be light, but the gentle taste of the egg pairs perfectly with the rice. The inside is creamy and it's the most delicious omelette rice I've ever had. I don't have enough vocabulary to describe it!! However, I ate the pickled ginger separately!

I recently returned to Osaka and would like to introduce the gourmet experience I had there. I visited Hokkyokusei in Shinsaibashi, which was established in 1922 and is known as the birthplace of omurice. I went on a pilgrimage to this holy place. Instead of the current trend of thick and fluffy eggs, they use thin but firm eggs to wrap around the ketchup rice. It reminded me of the omurice my grandmother used to make. The sauce on top of the omurice is exquisite and matches perfectly with the dish. It has a nostalgic taste that can only be experienced here. I highly recommend trying it out!

During a training session for the travel industry certification, I went to lunch with my colleagues at the famous restaurant "Hokusei" known for its omurice. We were worried about the crowds, but since it was a weekday and we went for a late lunch, we were able to get in without waiting. On weekends, it seems like making a reservation in advance would be a good idea.
We ordered the Karaage lunch set for 1200 yen (tax included), which included crispy fried chicken, omurice (choice of chicken or mushroom), and salad. We also added a drink for an additional 300 yen, opting for the Yuzu Soda. The large crispy karaage was piping hot and delicious! The traditional omurice with sauce went perfectly with the chicken rice, and we couldn't stop eating it. You can customize by adding cheese or upgrading to a larger portion for an extra charge. The salad on the side was a nice touch. The Yuzu Soda was refreshing with pulp, and getting it as part of the lunch set was a good deal.
If you're in Namba, be sure to try the original omurice at Hokusei at least once!

It was very busy during lunchtime. We were shown to a tatami room and our food was brought to us soon after ordering. I had eaten at a different branch before, and it was delicious as always. Customers were coming in one after another, so it seemed like the restaurant was very prosperous.

The high-class omurice was quite good. The wait time was long, and the price was over 1000 yen, but I wanted to try this popular Japanese restaurant at least once! I waited using the QR code, wandered around Namba, and waited for over an hour. It was risky. As the countdown started, I thought I might miss my turn. Would they cancel my order? When I finally entered, I was safe. With this long wait, I can see why some customers might give up midway. The omurice was average in size and taste. I ordered the beef stew omurice and regular omurice in a semi-private booth, and relaxed. The ceiling was low, and I accidentally hit it at the entrance. Sorry about that. My taste buds are not very refined, so even if there's no line, I might try other restaurants.

This time, I visited the main store of "Hokkyokusei," the origin of omurice, in Shinsaibashi. I have visited Hokkyokusei before, but this was my first time at the main store. I arrived at a good time and was able to enter smoothly. I sat in a private room and placed my order. Since it was dinner time, I ordered a beer set and beef omurice. The beer set came with fried chicken, potato fries, and broccoli. The freshly fried items were crispy and delicious. The omurice was as delicious as always - the fluffy egg wrapped around tomato-flavored beef rice was really tasty. I finished it all quickly. It was a stable and delicious dish enjoyed in a calm atmosphere. It was so delicious. Thank you for the meal.
