In mid-January 2018, I was taken to this restaurant by a local business owner. Fukuoka has many high-level izakayas with good cost performance, and this restaurant is among the top. It's always full, so it's best to make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is famous for its seafood dishes, which are a real treat for those living in hotels on business trips. For example, 1) you can choose a basket of vegetables and have them turned into warm vegetables with cheese fondue. 2) The motsunabe (tripe hot pot) with plenty of vegetables has a sweet and exquisite flavor. 3) The sashimi platter is delicious and affordable. The overall quality is very high. Those who drink alcohol can order a bottle of shochu, and even after drinking and eating a lot, the bill is still under 5000 yen. I've never seen a restaurant in Tokyo with this level of deliciousness and affordability. Foreigners also seem to love Fukuoka, as it is known as a city of gourmet food. I've had many eye-opening experiences here, and I would love to spend about 3 nights and 4 days exploring the city at my own pace.

On a Saturday night, a little early, my family went to an izakaya for a year-end party. The restaurant was featured on TV recently, so we decided to check it out. It's called "Warayaki Robata Kaifudo (Seafood)", located near Hakata Station Chikushi Exit. The restaurant opened in 2013. We made a reservation in advance and were seated at a sunken kotatsu-style table. The seating is for 2 hours. We started with drinks - I had a draft beer, my wife had a Calpis sour, and our two kids had ramune. We cheers! For sashimi, we ordered the "Treasure Chest of the Sea", which had 6 types of sashimi including bluefin tuna, with 4 pieces each for 550 yen (tax included). We upgraded the bluefin tuna to fatty tuna for a total of 990 yen (tax included). Although the pieces were small, the freshness and taste were excellent. The "Burdock One-Legged Kicking Method and Swordfish Tornado Fry" (1830 yen, tax included) was interesting - a whole burdock with swordfish wrapped around and fried. We cut it with kitchen scissors and dipped it in sauce or tartar sauce, and it was quite tasty. After finishing the beer, we switched to sake. They had "Kita no Hoko" and "Dewazakura" junmai sake, and we tried the "Dewazakura" served in a tokkuri, which had a strong flavor when sipped from a small cup. Some dishes took longer to prepare due to high demand, but overall, the menu was interesting and enjoyable.

This restaurant overall has generous portions! The appetizers in particular were amazing... The assorted sashimi platter was cheap and delicious. Kyushu soy sauce for sashimi is really the best! The highball is a bit expensive, so next time I'll go for shochu instead.

I visited for sightseeing. Many locals also visit, and you can enjoy various dishes from seafood to grilled skewers. The tower of onion rings and squid rings is impressive, so ring lovers should definitely give it a try. There are also rare dishes such as fried radish and salmon cutlet, making it a very enjoyable time.

I visited Kaifudo, located a 5-minute walk from the Chikushi exit of Hakata Station, for a work drinking party. It is a seafood izakaya where you can enjoy straw-grilled dishes and sashimi. When I first saw the name of the restaurant, I was puzzled about how to pronounce it, but when I realized it was seafood, I felt relieved. The dishes were all delicious and served quickly. They have spacious rooms with sunken kotatsu tables, making it great for large group parties. I've noted it as a potential venue for year-end parties and welcome/farewell parties. I will definitely use it again in the future!

The interior of the store is narrow, and the eye contact with the tables on both sides can be a bit uncomfortable. I was drawn to the sashimi assortment for 550 yen, which is the signboard menu, and ordered it. The tuna was watery and lacked flavor, which was a downside. The chicken nanban tartar had a strong mustard flavor rather than tartar. This is a recommended restaurant for those who want to keep costs down for second and third rounds!

I made a reservation as soon as the restaurant opened, and within an hour, the seats were already quite full. It's best to make a reservation before going. The dishes were all generous, cheap, and delicious. The staff were also very friendly, and I had a wonderful time there.

There is a live tank where you can eat fresh squid while it is still alive. You can see that squid are originally transparent. The chewy sashimi is excellent. They also offer fried squid legs or grilled squid legs. The egg omelet with mentaiko is delicious. The assorted sashimi platter is very affordable and a great deal.

A guest from Osaka wanted to eat seafood, so we checked for available seats before the restaurant opened and luckily were able to make a reservation. We ordered the "Treasure Box of the Sea" sashimi platter for 550 yen, which was very cost-effective. We also ordered live squid sashimi as it had just arrived in the tank. The crunchy texture was delicious.

There were menu items with impactful appearances, and the sashimi seemed to be sold at cost price, giving a good deal. The menu had recommended items with photos, making it easy to imagine. I wish the eel sushi was a little more grilled. The lucky draw is worth trying once!

The appetizer was expensive at 800 yen. Water is not free. The mentaiko (spicy cod roe) in the rolled omelette and the sashimi in the jewelry box were delicious. Before I knew it, the bill was already 8000 yen, and I was surprised at how quickly it added up. The appetizers were the reason for the high cost. The marinated plum root and burdock root with mayonnaise and another small dish were included. It was a bit underwhelming, so I won't be going back.

This place offers overwhelming value for money. It truly feels like Hakata here. Getting such high-quality seafood for 500 yen for the first and second plates is unbelievable. The dish in the photo was upgraded to Otoro for an additional fee, but it still didn't go over 1,000 yen. I believe the other dishes are delicious as well. I'm not sure what the sixth dish in the set is.

I made a reservation and went on Saturday. It seems to be a popular restaurant, with a lot of dishes like sashimi, bonito, gyoza, and corn tempura. The taste is average for a popular place. The drinks are all-you-can-drink, so it's quite a good deal. I might not visit again.

The "Tamatebako" sashimi platter was fresh and only 500 yen, which was great. You can order it as many times as you want. The "Ultimate Kaisen-don" has amazing contents, but I think you can find tastier seafood bowls for a similar price in Hakata. The restaurant is cramped with close seating and very noisy, without any partitions. I don't think it's a good place for a first meeting. It's more suitable for a casual second gathering with just some Tamatebako and beer.

When staying at Hakata Station Chikushi Exit, this is a shop I occasionally visit. It tends to be quite crowded, so making a reservation is recommended. The sashimi is very reasonably priced and quite delicious. Many of the staff are foreigners, so sometimes orders may not be communicated perfectly, but it adds to the charm. I like to request extra sesame sauce for a different flavor with the sashimi.

I went to Tamatebako for the first time in a while. When it comes to Hakata Station, I always think of this place! There are also several Fukuoka local dishes on the menu, so I took my friends from out of town and they were very pleased. Tamatebako is delicious, but the fried fresh squid (saki-ika) is also consistently delicious.

Second visit. This time, we had reserved a tatami room, so we were seated in a semi-private area where we could relax. The counter and table seats were busy and quite noisy, so if you want to relax and drink slowly, I recommend the tatami room. I tried the freshly squeezed pineapple sour. It came with two and a half plain sours in a jug and a set of pineapple. I have had lemon and grapefruit before, but pineapple was a first and it had a great impact. The taste was also excellent. However, squeezing the pineapple required quite a bit of strength, and my arms were shaking. The main dish this time was the ultimate seafood bowl. It is only available by reservation, so we booked in advance. It is a two-tiered dish with a substantial amount, so it is recommended to share with a group. The seafood ajillo, onion & squid ring tower, both the appearance and taste were very satisfying.

Tonight I stayed near Hakata Station. Since I am dining alone, I can eat whatever I like at a place I like, which makes me feel relaxed. Now, where should I go? I searched on Google for a convenient place with good reviews nearby the hotel. Let's try "Warayaki Robata Kaifudo"!
I checked the menu and ordered a draft beer, appetizer, small sashimi assortment, and a highball. The appetizer included boiled sweet potatoes and three boiled shrimp, but I didn't touch them as I don't like sweet potatoes as a snack and find it troublesome to peel shrimp shells. The small sashimi assortment had six types of fish, each with two pieces, which was reasonably priced at 430 yen.
Although it's a popular restaurant, I didn't find many dishes that caught my eye on the menu. I enjoyed the seafood (sashimi) at "Kaifudo" as the name suggests. I'm satisfied with the meal. Now, onto the next restaurant!

It was a meal with young people, so I chose a super cost-effective seafood restaurant. We ordered the usual sashimi platter and grilled fish head since it was early. The young people were amazed by the quantity and taste. We also ordered about 4 more dishes, including motsunabe. They ate a lot and were very satisfied, which was great.

I went to try the sashimi platter at Tamatebako, hoping for a good deal, but I was disappointed by the pre-made feel of the dishes. The freshness of the ingredients was questionable. The cold meatballs served as appetizers were unnecessary. Besides the sashimi, the appetizers and drinks were also on the pricier side, so overall, the cost performance was not great. I had high expectations, so I was a bit disappointed.

"Kaifudo (Seafood)" #Popular restaurant near Hakata Station East in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. I visited the very popular restaurant Kaifudo! Located in a dining area near the Hakata Station East joint government building with a blue sign as a landmark. Even on weekdays, it gets crowded with office workers, showing its lively atmosphere. They offer fresh and affordable seafood dishes with generous portions! The staff is efficient and the atmosphere is great. Last time, I tried the ultimate Kaifudo Don with a 100% cost ratio. This time, I recommend: ☆100% cost ratio!☆ - "Treasure Box of the Sea" for ¥550. Amazing value for money! It includes 24 pieces of natural bluefin tuna sashimi for only ¥550, which is enough for 2-3 people! Along with this highlight dish, all the other dishes are also very filling. The presentation of the dishes is also enjoyable. We tried: - "Treasure Box of the Sea" - "Half & Half Don" - Truffle Sushi Platter - Seafood Ajillo - Giant Shrimp Tempura - Beef Tongue, etc. Now, everyone should go with an empty stomach and see for themselves! Whether you want to drink affordably or eat a lot, you will definitely be satisfied. It's even more cost-effective when sharing with a large group. I'm full now! Thank you for the meal. * About a 5-minute walk from Hakata Station Chikushi Exit, with plenty of coin parking nearby. * Please check the latest business hours and information on the restaurant's Instagram. I made a reservation for dinner around 6:30 pm on Sunday during my trip to Hakata. The restaurant was quite crowded, so I think it's better to make a reservation on weekends. I ordered a plate of assorted sashimi with fatty tuna, grilled beef tongue, camembert cheese, sweet rolled omelette, swordfish and burdock roll, and fried fish. The sweet rolled omelette was quite sweet, so it depends on personal preference. The sashimi, swordfish and burdock roll, and fried fish were very delicious. It was a seafood-focused restaurant as the name suggests. The staff were very energetic and left a good impression.
