On the second day of the bullet Fukuoka food and drink ladder, the first stop was a disappointment as the oyster shack in Itoshima was closed. However, after some quick calls, we found out that Sumiyoshi Maru was still open for business even in mid-April. The place was bustling with customers enjoying oysters, sazae, squid, and oyster tempura. We were unable to try the famous oyster shumai as it was sold out, but everything else we tried was delicious. We also discovered that you can bring your own drinks and condiments, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Taissy's "Food Adventure"~Oyster Edition♪ Overall: 4.0 Taste: 4.0 Service: 3.5 Atmosphere: 4.0 Value for Money: 3.5 Drinks: - Overall rating based on taste, service, and atmosphere is higher than value for money and drinks. The oysters have a plump texture and delicious juices. The extra-large fresh oysters are fantastic! The crispy oyster fry is also great. The rice soaked in oyster essence is delicious. The service is efficient and the atmosphere is lively and energetic. The prices are a bit high but worth it. No information provided on drinks. A highly recommended dish! ★★ This is not a sponsored review.

Visited a oyster shack with five colleagues from work. It had been a while since we last came. We started by ordering a set menu which included a variety of oysters, clams, sazae (turban shell), seafood bowl, and more at a great price. I forgot the exact amount... We stopped by a supermarket beforehand to pick up condiments and alcohol. The oysters and clams were all excellent!

I went around 3 pm, and it was crowded so be careful when going during lunchtime. I arrived a bit early for the oyster shack, so the oysters were a bit small, but I was very satisfied. The scallops with butter soy sauce and abalone with butter soy sauce were exquisite. Personally, I recommend enjoying the flavorful broth from the scallops and abalone with butter soy sauce by soaking it up with rice and making grilled rice balls. It's incredibly delicious. I would like to come back during the season. Thank you for the meal.

We decided to take a leisurely drive towards Itoshima and mentioned that we wanted to eat some oysters. We ended up at Sumiyoshimaru. The parking lot is located next to the restaurant. There are both charcoal and gas grills available, and since the charcoal grill was crowded with people from around 10 am, we opted for the gas grill which was available for just one group. Due to the pandemic, we had to place our order using our smartphones. It might be a bit challenging for older individuals. We ordered oysters, scallops, and clams. The food arrived promptly after ordering. The grilling process started immediately after we asked for instructions, and the shells were popping open with juices splattering. It was a messy but enjoyable experience. The oysters were delicious on their own without needing the ponzu sauce that was provided. Thank you for the meal.

Visited the restaurant around 11 in the weekend, with about 1/3 of the seats already taken. By the time I left, about 2/3 of the seats were filled. The restaurant had around 20 seats in total. It was a bit remote, near the hospital where I usually go, so I had to take a bus from Motohara Station or drive there myself. Luckily, it was a Saturday so I could drive. While waiting at the hospital, I checked on Foodlog and found that Sumiyoshimaru had already opened for the season. It's a cozy oyster shack in Itoshima that opens early, so it was perfect for me. The shack is located right next to Kaburi Port, with two vinyl houses, and a spacious parking lot. When I arrived, a young girl welcomed me and said it was okay to dine without a reservation. The place was already bustling with customers in jackets. I ordered the Sumiyoshimaru set which included grilled oysters, clams, scallops, and turban shells, along with oyster rice, soup, and oyster dumplings. The dishes were served on disposable trays, and the oyster rice was delicious. The soup was also tasty. However, the oyster dumplings were a bit too much for me. The grilled oysters were enjoyable, and the clams were delicious. One of the dishes had sazae, with a chewy texture and sweet taste. My partner also enjoyed the sazae. The bill was settled using a QR code provided on a laminated sheet at the counter. The total cost for one person was around 2000 yen, including the set meal, tea, and charcoal fee. You can bring your own drinks, but not food. They also had a variety of a la carte menu items. It would be nice to come back and enjoy some drinks with the food. Thank you for the meal.

If you're spending winter in Fukuoka, you definitely have to visit the oyster shack in Itoshima! This year, I went to this shop at Kaburi Fishing Port. I had made a reservation, but had to wait about 10 minutes before entering. Wearing a yellow vinyl jacket, I was ready to dig in! Here's what I ordered: - Oysters (medium size) 2kg - Giant clam 3 pieces - Clams (medium size) 3 pieces - Oyster rice 2 servings - Homemade sausage 1 piece - Oyster tempura 1 plate They provide detailed instructions on how to grill, which is great for beginners. The sizzling sound from the charcoal grill wasn't as explosive as expected, which was a relief! The oysters were varying in size, but all delicious with a nice hint of the sea. The giant clams were tasty with soy sauce. Kaburi seems to be known for their clams, and they were packed with meat. The nearby shared restroom was clean and well-maintained, and there's a smoking area near the entrance. They charge a small fee for condiments, but it's worth trying their special oyster ponzu or soy sauce. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

Visit date: Sunday, January 27, 2019, around 11:30 am. I took a bus from Hakata Station and went to an oyster shack in Itoshima. The weather was perfect, with clear skies, making it an ideal day for oyster shack dining! (^-^) It took about an hour from Hakata Station bus terminal to reach Kaburi. From Kaburi bus stop, it was about a 10-minute walk until I could see Sumiyoshi Maru. Despite it being a Sunday and still before noon, the restaurant was already full. It seems like reservations are possible at Sumiyoshi Maru. I wrote my name on the board at the entrance and waited for about 10 minutes before finally being seated. The restaurant was spacious! I borrowed a yellow jacket at the entrance and was guided to my seat. A staff member came to take my order, and I made some random choices! Oysters (large) for ¥1200, fan shrimp for ¥600, natural clams for ¥180 each, squid for ¥600, one shell of hiohgi clam for ¥250, and the famous oyster dumpling for ¥200, etc... The large oysters were indeed big in size! This year, I saw on TV that oysters did not grow well compared to previous years, but the oysters at Sumiyoshi Maru were plump and satisfying to eat! The natural clams were also incredibly delicious! A must-try for clam lovers! I also tried the rare fan shrimp, but it felt a bit lacking in volume... Of course, I added more oysters (medium) for ¥1000 and natural clams to my order! While enjoying the sparkling wine my friend brought, I indulged in eating oysters! It was truly a blissful moment! Thank you for lending us the wine opener! I would love to visit this wonderful oyster shack again! They are apparently open without any issues until the end of March. I definitely want to go back one more time before the end of this year. It was incredibly delicious! I will visit again!

Hello, it's me, the food fighter Kyantama. I visited this oyster shack in Itoshima with the aim of trying their oysters and clams. I arrived early and got a free sazae (turban shell) as they were giving them to the first 20 customers. I ordered oysters by size, with the large ones priced at 1200 yen per kilogram. The oysters grilled over charcoal were incredibly delicious. The clams were also rich and flavorful, truly satisfying. While oysters at different shacks in Itoshima may not vary much, the ones here were large and had a great texture. It was the best oyster I've had since trying the ones from Minoshima in the city of Yukuhashi. Paying with Nimoca was a unique touch!

Itojima, known for its thriving oyster farming, comes alive every winter with nearly 30 oyster huts opening up. You can grill freshly caught oysters yourself right by the port, and enjoy them at a reasonable price. The self-service charcoal grilling adds to the fun. The oysters come in three sizes - medium, large, and extra-large, with the large and extra-large ones being particularly meaty. The freshness of the oysters straight from the sea really makes a difference in taste. The next season starts around October, and I definitely want to go again.

I found out for the first time that you can make a reservation at an oyster hut, so I decided to make a last-minute reservation and it was successful. I usually avoid going because I don't like waiting in line, but being able to make a reservation in advance makes it easier to go. I visited around 2 pm in the afternoon. They had special, large, and medium sizes for grilled oysters, and the same for clams with sizes ranging from special to small. However, on that day, clams were out of season so they were not available. They didn't have special size oysters either, so we ordered 2 kilograms of large oysters. We also ordered prawns, abalone, and oyster rice. The oyster rice was delicious! The oysters were big and didn't shrink when grilled, which was nice. It felt like it was before the peak season, so I'm looking forward to the upcoming season!

At the oyster shack Sumiyoshimaru in Itoshima, Kaburi, they wear yellow jumpers while grilling oysters. I was surprised that soy sauce was charged extra. (I've never been charged for soy sauce at an oyster shack before.) The mini size was very cute, haha. Thank you for the meal.

I came here after visiting a famous udon restaurant on Saturday, and the place was very crowded. After a short wait, I ordered the first dish at the entrance and got seated. They provided a yellow jacket to prevent clothes from getting dirty while grilling oysters. I ordered oysters, clams, and turban shells, which were grilled on a stove. The oysters were big and juicy, the clams were big and satisfying, and the turban shells were plump and delicious. I enjoyed them so much that I ordered seconds of each and had a great time.

The season for the annual Oyster Shack reunion has come again! In the oyster farming-rich Itoshima Peninsula, there are many oyster shacks run by fishermen in various fishing ports such as Karato in the east, Gishi and Funakoshi in the west, and Kaburi. Among them, Gishi and Funakoshi are large oyster shack areas with around 10 shacks concentrated. Our gathering, now in its 9th year, has moved around to different locations experiencing various oyster shacks, but we have settled at Sumiyoshi Maru in Kaburi fishing port since 2015. The popular Sumiyoshi Maru seemed to have added one more greenhouse this year. Nonetheless, it was always full of customers coming and going. The new addition was using gas instead of charcoal, which was a bit disappointing. It is said that oyster shacks in Itoshima start operating as early as mid-October, but this time of the year is the best. The oysters are plump and delicious! This year, we made a little twist in the seasoning. One of our friends brought butter and basil, allowing us to enjoy grilled oysters with a different flavor than usual. First, we tried the butter-grilled oysters, then the basil, which was a great success! And finally, we tried butter and basil together. Simple grilled oysters are delicious, but it was fun to try different flavors. In addition to oysters, we added live spot prawns, scallops, and dried squid to the menu. The grilling was just right, with firm and juicy meat. The large scallops reminded us of the impressive scallops from Hachinohe's Yashoku Center in Aomori. Eating and drinking, our stomachs were full. Despite being at a good age, we really eat a lot (laughs). The smell of the dried squid being grilled helped reset our stomachs. The men kept eating and drinking. The grilled spicy pollack roe was also fragrant. The natural Hamaguri clams from Kaburi are a precious domestic native species. If you come here, be sure to try this dish. Thick and full of flavor, it is truly delicious. No matter how full we were, we couldn't skip the oyster rice. Once again, the old friends gathered in Itoshima to reminisce about the past. Gathering around the grill, chatting and laughing. With more wives joining in, it became even livelier.

When I arrived at the station, the homepage said that the restaurant would arrange a taxi for me, so I contacted them. However, for some reason, they refused to arrange it for me, without giving a clear explanation (such as it being busy). It was clear that they were busy, but even when I arrived and informed them of my reservation, the staff's attitude was very unpleasant. I was able to enter the restaurant smoothly, but there was no explanation about the grilled dishes. The staff seemed too busy to bother answering any questions. Perhaps if you are a regular customer, it may be fine, but for first-timers, it can be a tough place to visit. The service at this restaurant is completely different from the oyster shack I usually go to in Mie Prefecture. Maybe this is just the atmosphere in Kyushu? Perhaps I chose the wrong place to visit.

I went at a bad time and many items were sold out, but I still enjoyed eating plenty of oysters and drinking two beers. However, spending 4000 yen alone is quite expensive in Tokyo...

The grilled oysters were delicious! It was fun grilling them myself. The oyster rice bowl was too delicious, I couldn't resist having it as my final dish. The shrimp was also tasty to eat as is. Kaki-goya in Itoshima is a must-visit spot!

Delicious oysters require skill to shuck! The live abalone was incredibly tasty. It's best to have someone else shuck the oysters. I had a few too many drinks and ended up overcooking them towards the end.
