☆彡Located in Hankyu Higashi-dori Shopping Street, this long-standing okonomiyaki restaurant, in business for 75 years, used to allow smoking. However, with the changing times, they have now become a non-smoking establishment, as indicated by their sign. I decided to stop by and try their okonomiyaki and yakisoba dishes. The dishes are cooked on a central iron griddle in the middle of the restaurant. The tables come in various sizes, from single to four-person tables. Since I was dining alone that day, I was seated at a single-person table, which was quite small. The table had a secret base feel to it, and my beer was placed on the window sill next to me.
○ Okonomiyaki Mix (1,350 yen) - includes pork, squid, shrimp, and octopus
○ Yakisoba (large serving 1,300 yen) - includes squid and pork
○ Asahi Super Dry Large Bottle (850 yen)
First, the yakisoba was served, and even though it was a large serving, the thick noodles made it quite filling. The noodles were boiled firm and then cooked on the griddle, giving them just the right texture. The sauce was thick and rich, so I sprinkled plenty of bonito flakes and nori to add a light taste. If you like yakisoba, I recommend ordering the large serving!
As I was finishing the yakisoba, the okonomiyaki was served. It had been cooking on the griddle the whole time, so when served, the okonomiyaki was a bit tough. One of the criteria for delicious okonomiyaki is its fluffiness, but this one had a completely different texture, and the cabbage was still firm, lacking the sweet taste of being steamed. Despite being a long-standing establishment, this area could use some improvement.
The interior of the restaurant felt like a time warp, with a retro atmosphere. Enjoying hot dishes in this setting was quite nice.
