Senmikan Izumisano Store Fried Chicken Set Meal (Tonkotsu Ramen) Extra Rice...? w
Today, I fiercely stormed into Senmikan Izumisano Store located in Matsubara, Izumisano City, Osaka Prefecture. This restaurant was featured in the latest edition of Gatsumeshi, offering various set meals with a large 130g piece of fried chicken. Although I have been a bit skeptical about the recent Gatsumeshi recommendations, the reviews on Tabelog reassured me that the fried chicken here comes in a substantial portion.
However, this judgment is based on the perspective of an average eater, and as a big eater myself, it remains to be seen whether it meets the standards of a food challenge enthusiast. On the day of my visit, I was busy in the southern part of Osaka and had the opportunity to visit a restaurant I had been wanting to try. Since the lunch last order at the second restaurant I planned to visit was at 2 pm, time was tight.
As there are four chefs working in the kitchen to ensure that dishes are served within 5 minutes for the Gatsumeshi challenge, I felt relieved. After a 5-minute wait... no service... After a 10-minute wait, the food finally arrived. Well, it's relatively fast for a Sunday lunchtime, I guess. The lighting inside the restaurant was dim, so please forgive the slightly blurry images.
Fried Chicken Set Meal (Tonkotsu Ramen) Extra Rice...? w 830 yen
Oh, indeed, the portion is quite substantial as rumored, with four large pieces of fried chicken. Although it's only four pieces, it's quite a mountain of food. However, claiming that each piece weighs 130g may be a bit of an exaggeration. Let's take a different angle... I thought the ramen would be half-sized, but it seems to be closer to three-quarters of the full portion. The slightly thick slices of pork are a nice touch!
I was a bit excited, but is this considered a large portion here? Now, let's dig in. First, let's try the fried chicken. I forgot to bring chewing gum for size comparison, so I placed it on top of the rice for reference. Looking at it this way, you can see how large each piece is. I also took pictures of the remaining three pieces, which are slightly larger than the typical Chinese restaurant fried chicken set meal. This restaurant also includes a small ramen, making it a high-value meal.
Now, onto the taste... It was mentioned that there might be some pre-made dishes served, but this time I was served freshly fried chicken, allowing me to enjoy it piping hot. The slightly thick batter provides a crispy and crunchy texture. The flavor is intense with a good amount of garlic, making it delicious as it is. And the overflowing meat juices! The juicy meat juices burst out with each bite, almost like an explosion... I was in a rush, so I accidentally spilled some on my upper palate while eating. The meat juices are no joke... The ramen is also included, so I decided to give it a try...
