I visited this restaurant for the first time. I was wandering around trying to decide on a place to eat during my business trip, and I found this place. It's neither good nor bad. The prices are reasonable for a location near the station. The taste is not bad, but nothing particularly outstanding. It's like a typical place you would find nowadays. It's a good choice for group gatherings or drinking parties.

Near Hakata Station, there is an izakaya located in the basement of JRJP Hakata Building, just 300 steps from the station. Even though it is past 1:30 PM and lunchtime is almost over, this restaurant is bustling with customers, as their lunch deals are amazing. They offer a variety of dishes such as grilled fish, horse mackerel fry, and seafood bowl, all served with rice and miso soup. The portion sizes are generous, especially the seafood bowl topped with freshly cut sashimi and sesame dressing. And the best part is, you can enjoy all this for just 500 yen, which is a great deal! The fried chicken and tuna bowl are priced at 700 yen, but still very affordable!

During the latter half of the long weekend, I visited around Hakata Station today by myself. I went to a restaurant near the bus terminal and felt like eating tempura, so I hesitated a lot before finally deciding to dine here. As a drinker, I appreciate the happy hour (although it's limited to 90 minutes and only includes draft beer). I had tempura with two types of fish (salmon and mackerel maybe?), two types of vegetables, and shrimp. The shrimp was quite meaty and had a nice texture! The fish was tender and flaky. I also ordered grilled eggplant, deep-fried tofu, and simmered chicken liver. With four drinks, I'm already stuffed! Next time, I'll come with family or friends to enjoy a lively meal together. I can't eat anything else today... Thank you for the delicious meal!

I visited for the second time. Even though I was full, I went to eat squid sashimi. It was made with spear squid and seemed fresh, but it was not very sweet, just average. I stopped using chopsticks halfway and switched to tempura, but the oil seemed old and the finish was crispy, which I didn't like as I prefer a softer batter. The customer service from the staff and the lively atmosphere of the restaurant were excellent.

After a long time, I went to Shirasu Kujira-san. On this day, there was a social gathering near Hakata Station (no photos were taken at the gathering, so I didn't post any). Afterwards, we went here. As usual... The next morning, I checked my phone and realized I didn't take any photos... I guess... It was a social gathering where we all drank together with the Three M's, so I ended up drinking more than usual that day... I even ended up drinking wine at Shirasu Kujira-san... From this month until mid-next month, it's all social gatherings... I might be drinking the most during this time... Apparently, I had sashimi and for some reason, two tuna skewers here... Next time, I'll go for a leisurely drink.

On this day, the fourth stop was Shirasu Kujira. Hot sake for 510 yen, seared swordfish sashimi for 780 yen, uni (sea urchin) platter for 1000 yen, sardine sashimi for 680 yen, and Kuroshiroba on the rocks for 460 yen. The uni on the platter was slightly discolored. The sardine sashimi was delicious.

This is a restaurant in Fukuoka that my Tokyo boss always uses when on business trips. You can have lunch for the same price as a convenience store bento. The recommended dish is the 500 yen fried horse mackerel set, which always seems to be crowded. I had the mixed fry set, which comes with 2 pieces of fried chicken for 650 yen. The fried horse mackerel was delicious without any fishy smell. It seems to be very crowded during lunchtime. Bon appétit!

In March 2023, my friend and I met at Hakata Station at 7:00 PM and headed to the gourmet street on the B1F of JRJP Hakata Building. We went to "Kushiage Kakute Shira Sukujira," which was relatively empty, and sat at the counter.
What we had:
- Evis draft beer
- Ginger ale
- Salt-boiled edamame
- Vinegared motsu (offal)
- Eggplant with pork miso
- Fried fugu (blowfish)
- Sesame mackerel
- Dewar's highball
- Burdock root fritters
- Seafood okonomiyaki
- Black tea
- Lemon chuhai
We enjoyed many delicious dishes in Fukuoka. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Shirasukujira near Hakata Station on New Year's Eve. It's conveniently located near the station. I arrived at the restaurant a little after 6 p.m., but because it was New Year's Eve, last order was at 7 p.m. I quickly ordered beer, assorted skewers, sweet potato tempura, and more. I started with a beer and made a toast to the past year. The beer was delicious, especially Sapporo Beer. The dishes were served one by one, including sweet potato tempura and rolled omelette. Both had great flavors - the sweet potato tempura was plump and tasty, and the rolled omelette had a rich broth flavor. The assorted skewers had a total of 12 items, including meat, fish, and seasonal fried vegetables. The light coating made them easy to eat, and they paired well with beer. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and was a great place near the station. Thank you for the meal.

I came here after a long time. It's located 300 steps from the station on a side street, but it seems like everywhere is empty, possibly due to the competition from the adjacent KITTE. Shirasu Kujira is no exception. Here's what I ordered: Lemon Sour for 462 yen, Kami no Kawa Rock for 462 yen, Anko (monkfish) Karaage for 550 yen. There is also a counter, and I think it's mostly used by solo diners, but there are not many small dishes to nibble on. The taste is delicious, thanks to the freshness of the ingredients. However, without the energy of the 300 steps from the station, the restaurant seems empty, and I have a feeling that it might be closing soon.

※Review for August 2022
On a Saturday night in Hakata, I wanted to have a casual drink, preferably with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and sweet potato shochu, so I decided to visit the "Station 300 Steps Alley" on the basement floor of JRJP Hakata Building. Among the various options, I went to the familiar "Shirasu Kujira."
Although I usually visit "Shirasu Kujira" after passing through security at Fukuoka Airport, this time I went to the branch in Hakata for a change.
[Food Experience]
I started with a beer and ordered "Wasabi-flavored Shrimp Mayo" and "Deep-fried Tuna Skewers." The shrimp was large and satisfying, but the mayo was a bit heavy. The wasabi flavor was quite subtle. The deep-fried tuna skewers were freshly cooked, but a bit greasy. It seems like this place really emphasizes tuna, as they even had a "Tuna Festival" with limited quantities daily.
I decided to try the "Grilled Tuna Collar" as well, and it had a nice charred flavor. However, it was quite fatty and bony, making it a bit heavy as well. Everything seemed a bit heavy and greasy overall.
Finally, I had the main items I came for: "Spicy Cod Roe" and "Sweet Potato Shochu on the rocks." I also ordered some "Vinegared Tripe" for a refreshing touch. In hindsight, the initial three items would have been sufficient for today's meal.
I even tried adding the mentaiko on top of the grilled tuna collar.

- Draft Beer: 460 yen

This Shirasukujira-san was my first time visiting. I wanted to have a light meal while enjoying some drinks, so I ordered a sashimi platter, dashimaki tamago, and squid shiokara, all of which paired well with alcohol. While dining, I noticed they had maguro nakaochi for 500 yen, so I decided to try it. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of the dish, but it was delicious! I used a spoon to remove the nakaochi from the bones, which was a fun and unique experience. The overall food was tasty, but the maguro nakaochi stood out the most for me. At just 500 yen, it was a delicious and affordable option. I highly recommend trying it. It was so good. Thank you for the meal.

Second business trip to Kyushu this year. This time, I will be visiting Hakata, Saga, and Miyazaki, starting with a stay in Hakata via Fukuoka Airport. For dinner, I decided to go to the izakaya alley in the basement of the JRJP Building near Hakata Station. I was walking around, unsure of where to go, when I found a shop that was somewhat crowded but had seats available at the counter, so I went in. I ordered a draft beer, sesame mackerel, and the shop's specialty, scallop and asparagus grilled dish. When in Hakata, sesame mackerel is a must. The combination of sesame and sweet sauce with fresh mackerel goes well with alcohol. The scallop and asparagus grilled dish served on a scallop shell was also a perfect match with beer. I enjoyed every last bit, even the broth. After that, I ordered yam potato teppanyaki and changed my drink to a sour with lots of lemon (you can add more lemon juice). When I was about to leave, I looked back and saw that the shop was almost full. It was lively post-COVID.

■Overall Impression
There are about four Shirasu Kujira shops at Hakata Station, but this one is a shop mainly focused on kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) with the added option of robatayaki (fireside cooking). Although I didn't get to try their specialty robatayaki this time, it is still a delicious place to dine (their scallop robatayaki is amazing).
■Scallop and Asparagus Butter Yaki
A must-order dish here is the Scallop and Asparagus Butter Yaki. The combination of butter and scallops is perfect. Plus, the bite-sized portions make it just right.
■Kushikatsu Set 1
I couldn't quite remember everything that was included in this set, but the seafood kushikatsu was delicious. The sauce is not the old-fashioned double-dipping style but rather poured on top, which is reassuring (also a good measure for COVID-19 prevention).
■Niratama
A subtle dish that really hit the spot. It had been a while since I last visited an izakaya, and I hope we can return to a time where it's easy to casually visit izakayas again.
■Bamboo Shoot Kushikatsu
An additional order of kushikatsu, and the bamboo shoot was delicious.
■Nira Liver Stir-Fry
My memory of the dish before this is faint, but the non-seafood dishes are also tasty. It really boosts your energy.
■Ebi Mayo
Ebi Mayo is tasty, but it's the kind of dish you finish in seconds. I devoured it in no time.
■Kushikatsu Set 2
And finally, the last dish which included quail and eggplant. Quail is delicious whether in yakitori or kushikatsu. It was a feast. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is located in a side street 300 steps from the station. Unlike other famous yakitori restaurants in side streets, this one is easy to enter and has a relaxed atmosphere. There are both counter seats and tables, so it's suitable for individuals or groups. It's great for a quick drink with a focus on fish dishes. I ordered a lemon sour (which was very weak, so I added extra shochu) and the monkfish tempura, which was delicious. The rolled omelette was okay, I kind of regretted ordering it. Overall, the food was good, but the prices were a bit high.

■Overall Impression
Despite being located in Hakata Station, this place offers high-quality one-coin lunches. I think it's not one-coin anymore, but still affordable. I ordered beer as well, so having a lunch drink is nice.
■Seafood Bowl
This is not just a regular seafood bowl, but the fact that you can turn it into ochazuke halfway through is a big plus. However, upon further thought, it didn't pair well with beer haha. Thank you for the meal.

Even during the pandemic, I was surprised to see the restaurant still crowded. It's no wonder it's popular - adding clam soup to the seafood bowl only costs ¥650, and the sashimi is fresh and generous. The rice is delicious too. The clams in the soup are big and plump, so adding it was a good choice. The fact that it's only ¥500 tax-inclusive in the 10% era is amazing! Moreover, it's conveniently located near Hakata Station. Despite the rain, it's only a 300-step walk without getting wet. The counter seats are a bit unsettling as customers line up next to you to pay, but it's still worth it for the affordable and delicious lunch. I definitely want to go back again.

I visited this restaurant for the first time. It's a rainy day and the start of a long weekend, so I decided to have a drink in the underground shopping area. My partner had already entered and placed our order. Due to the shortened business hours, we had to be mindful of the order cut-off time. We ordered sweet potato tempura, assorted skewers for two, and a tomato and tofu salad. As a bonus, we received gyoza as a service due to a mix-up in the order. The skewers were quite generous in portion size. The sweet potato tempura was delicious! The place seems to attract a younger crowd. Tonight, we enjoyed a quick drink before heading home. Thank you for the meal!

I went on an expedition to Kurume, so I stopped by Aoki Onsen and relaxed before being dropped off at Hakata Station to pick up something I forgot to buy. The driver parked the car at home. After finishing shopping, I felt thirsty. In the mood for seafood, I headed to a famous seafood izakaya in Fukuoka called "Ishigai" group. Their theme is "from shirasu to whale," offering a variety of fish dishes based on fish directly delivered from the Genkai Sea, all at a reasonable price. The restaurant is located in the basement of JRJP Hakata Building, part of the "300 Steps from the Station" alley with 10 shops. The restaurant has counter seats and table seats, making it easy for even solo diners to enjoy. Although there were quite a few customers, I was guided to a seat where no one else was sitting. First, I ordered a draft beer. Then, I tried the sesame mackerel, which had a thick sesame sauce. I also tried the "dream collaboration of sea urchin and salmon roe," with half a sea urchin and overflowing salmon roe, all for about 1000 yen, a great cost performance. It came with seaweed, allowing for a luxurious eating experience, but it might raise your cholesterol levels. I also tried the large head of sea bream. You can choose between boiled head or steamed head, and I chose the steamed head, which had plenty of soft flesh. As I enjoyed my meal and drinks, my family who had parked the car arrived. Now, it's time to move on to the next place.

Shirasu Kujira is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy grilled skewers at a low price in a "kakuchi" style. It is located in a new hot spot called "Station 300 Steps Alley," which is bustling all day long, making it perfect for daytime drinking. On this Saturday night, the restaurant is even more lively. Luckily, a table for four by the aisle is available, providing good ventilation and peace of mind. It was our third round, so we decided to have a casual drink (which turned into three drinks). We ordered the recommended dishes, "grilled shirako skewers" and "fish nanban." The restaurant offers a large bottle of "Sapporo Lager Red Label," which instantly lifts your spirits! We enjoyed the night with fun friends and great conversations. This place is perfect for such a situation.
