I arrived at the longest arcade shopping street in Japan, Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street 5th Avenue. It is a shop with vivid ink marks on the noren curtain. I pass through the noren curtain and enter the shop. When I ask the young lady if they are open, she tells me that the seats at the counter are available. I sit at an open seat and order a shochu highball and kizushi. The kizushi arrives in a small dish. Kizushi is vinegar-pickled mackerel. This vinegar is a distinctive one that I feel like I've tasted somewhere before. I can't quite remember where though. I order a tempura assortment for 340 yen. It includes shishito peppers, onions, horse mackerel, squid, and pumpkin. It comes with tempura dipping sauce. The balance of the dipping sauce and the saltiness is just right, I ended up drinking the leftover dipping sauce. Let's order one more dish. After some consideration, I choose the grilled squid for 350 yen. I thought it would come in the shape of a squid, but it arrived as pieces of squid with soy sauce-based sauce drizzled on top. I sprinkle plenty of red pepper flakes and enjoy it. I ask for the bill. It comes to 1140 yen. So cheap! So cheap! So cheap!

This is a classic Showa era izakaya in Osaka Tenma called Tenma Sakuramai! Yamadera. On this day, I enjoyed ladder sake in Tenma. The shop is Tenma Sakuramai. The atmosphere and detailed information about the shop are also uploaded on YouTube, so please refer to it. Let's visit the shop right away. Inside the shop, there is a long counter and two-person table seats lined up in the back like an eel's sleeping place. At the very back, there is a table for six people. I start with a Tenma Sakuramai highball for 350 yen. It's a special highball with whiskey in lemon sour. It has a very smooth taste, so I drink too much. For snacks, I will have simmered sardines for 250 yen. It's very delicious with a sweet and salty flavor with ginger in it, and the sardines have no fishy smell. Another dish is grilled squid for 280 yen. Grilled squid is delicious when it's soft and fragrant and eaten simply with just salt! This kind of dish seems to go best with alcohol. I had pickled turnip with kelp for 200 yen. The kelp in the pickled turnip adds stickiness, making it very delicious. It's great to mix it with grated daikon and eat it refreshing. This dish seems to go well with shochu, so I paired it with a watered-down sweet potato shochu for 270 yen! Plum jellyfish for 200 yen. The crunchy texture of jellyfish and the acidity and umami of bonito plum go well with shochu. Grilled salmon belly for 300 yen. It looks like fatty salmon belly! When I tried it, the sweetness and umami of the salmon belly spread in my mouth. This goes well with alcohol, but it would be exciting if it was in onigiri. For the finale, I had sweet bean paste and cheese fritters for 100 yen. This is my first time trying this - sweet bean paste and cheese are inside the dumpling skin! It's fried in oil, so it's like fried dumplings, but the filling is sweet bean paste. The combination of cheese and sweet bean paste is surprisingly good - it was really delicious. Thank you for the meal. Tenma Sakuramai ☆ Basic information ☆ Address: 5-7-28 Tenjinbashi, Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture Closed: Irregular holidays Business hours: 11:00-21:00 Smoking allowed

I had the chance to visit Osaka, where I used to live, after a long time and took a stroll through the Tenjinbashi-Suji Shopping Street on a Saturday morning. Right after the store opened at 11 am, I entered Tenma Sakagura and had a drink alone at the counter. The interior had a deep and retro atmosphere, with only one couple besides me, all other customers were middle-aged men. I felt a bit nervous under the sharp gaze of the intimidating mother standing in front of the counter, but I tried to stay strong. The drinks were all around 300 yen, super cheap. The wall was lined with a large variety of menu items such as sashimi, fried foods, grilled dishes, and oden. Since I had plans later in the afternoon, I couldn't stay long. I ordered a highball, maguro mountain topping, kizushi, kanpachi, octopus vinegar, and the total bill came to 1760 yen. The atmosphere of Osaka may be a bit overwhelming for people from Kanto at first, but once you step into a place like this, you feel comfortable and immediately want to come back. Thank you for the rich experience!

I visited this place for the first time. One thing that stood out right away was that there were no menus on the tables like in other izakayas. Instead, you have to look at the menu posted above the counter and place your order. The text was small and a bit hard to read, but the effort put into the dishes was amazing! Each dish was priced around 200 yen and they were all delicious - from sashimi to oden, liver skewers, tofu hot pot, and rolled omelette. The alcohol was also very cheap, with a large beer for 400 yen and highballs for 320 yen. Despite eating a lot and drinking a fair amount, the bill came out to around 4700 yen for two people, which is incredibly affordable! I will definitely be coming back to this place. It was amazing! Thank you for the meal!

After enjoying okonomiyaki in the Osaka Series 2, we chose a second bar to drink at. Luckily, it was not crowded at the time. There was a smoking area, but no one happened to be smoking. The prices for most dishes were around 200-300 yen, which seemed surprisingly cheap. The Kanto-style simmered dish with daikon and beef tendon was delicious, with the flavors well infused. The grilled salted clams were fresh and not too fishy. The simmered beef tendons in a sweet and savory sauce were also very tasty. The grilled sand lance had a nice charcoal aroma and no unpleasant smell. We had 2-3 drinks each and the total bill for two people was around 2600 yen. The staff were friendly and we got a sense of the warmth of Osaka. Thank you for the meal!

Tenma is a pub crawl! On a weekday afternoon, my wife and I went out for a drink. We were planning to visit Arukura-san at Shuzo Yotei, but their opening time was delayed, so we decided to have a few drinks nearby and ended up at this place for the first time. It was featured in a special edition of the magazine "meets." along with the two other places we were planning to visit. This is an old-established izakaya with about 60% of the seats occupied by customers. There is a long counter in the back and table seats behind it. We chose a table seat. We ordered various dishes and also had boiled eggs with salt sprinkled on the shells, which was a bit unusual but interesting. Overall, the food was not particularly impressive, but the potato salad was delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice with a sense of tradition, established in 1969. The mixed tempura plate was a bit disappointing. The drinks are cheap, but there are many affordable options in Tenma, so it's not a standout in terms of value for money. Drinking alone at the counter and taking your time is nice, but compared to the other places we visited before and after, the cost performance was not as good. Still, I think it's a good place. We paid in cash. Thank you for the meal.

I went to an izakaya in Temma. Although I sat at the counter, there was no place to put my belongings, and the floor was not very clean, so I hesitated to put my things there. The food and drinks were generally cheap! They had a variety of dishes like tempura, Kanto-style simmered dishes, and grilled items. Personally, I liked the Kanto-style simmered dish. The bill was around 1500 yen, which was cheap and easy to go, which was good.

Located in the Tenjinbashi Suji shopping street, this traditional izakaya, established in 1969, exudes a nostalgic atmosphere. Starting with a daytime drink with my partner, we were joined by another friend, making it a group of four by the end of our visit. We were seated at a table towards the back, passing by the counter. The old-fashioned izakaya vibe was enhanced by the efficient and friendly staff. Feeling quite tipsy, I toasted with a lemon shochu highball. We enjoyed a sashimi platter with tuna, squid, sea bream, octopus, and amberjack, as well as dishes like rolled omelette, stingray fin, whale bacon, and sausages. The prices were reasonable, allowing for a variety of dishes to be sampled, even for solo diners. Most of the food was enjoyed by our later arriving friend, though they noted that the rolled omelette was a bit cold, possibly pre-made. Overall, a great spot for a quick drink and bite to eat. Thank you for the meal!

I went to Hashigo Sake for the last stop of the night. The atmosphere was lively, the food and drinks were delicious and affordable. I felt that it's a place where even a single person can enjoy. I would like to come alone next time. I had vegetable tempura and Kanto-style simmered dishes, and I thought the cost performance was excellent.

Second visit to Temma. It's great to be able to drink during the day without feeling guilty. I used this place for day drinking before because they have a wide variety of menu options. Since I had okonomiyaki at the first place, I couldn't eat too much here. But alcohol is a different story. We had potato salad, oden (my partner's favorite), and fish collar, although I forgot to take a picture. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Big bottle 400 yen, grilled young chicken 450 yen, sushi 280 yen, dashimaki 200 yen. I've passed by this place many times but finally decided to go in! And it was definitely the right choice!! The atmosphere is so cozy that I don't feel like going to work anymore. It's so cheap and they have single serving dishes so you can eat and drink slowly. It's perfect for a lunch drink since it's close to my workplace, I'll definitely be coming here often. There are a lot of regular customers who come here for solo drinking, the atmosphere is really warm and inviting! There are about 3 staff members working and they are efficient and friendly. Surprisingly, there are also many young customers, this place has a nostalgic vibe that I really like! Thank you for the meal!!

The alcohol is cheap, so it's highly recommended for drinkers. The dishes are surprisingly cheap, with plenty of options in the 100-250 yen range, making it easy to choose from the menu. It's a bit disappointing that some dishes have small portions, and the stir-fried hormone dish is more like stir-fried cabbage. However, considering the price, it felt reasonable. I wished they had more affordable dishes with larger portions so I could visit more often. Personally, in terms of rice price and portion, I would give the edge to Hyakusho in Kitashinchi. However, the alcohol is cheap. For those who want to drink a lot of alcohol and don't mind the food as much, this place is recommended.

After filling up on noodles at Menso-So, I headed to a high-end business hotel in the Tenma district near Temma Station where the APA president was waiting for me. Maybe I briefly enjoyed a fancy collaboration of flowers and calligraphy, but most likely I just woke up in the large bath of the APA hotel trying to sober up. I don't remember the details, but I enjoy wasting time like this! I slapped away the illusion of the APA president crying and screaming in bed and headed out to Temma Station in the evening. I was feeling a bit down about the idea of exploring new places, so I ended up at this place after a long time. I like the low and long counter here. It was quite crowded on weekdays in the evening, but on Saturdays it was only about half full. I started with a lemon sour and kizushi, the golden duo of Kansai izakayas (for some unknown reason), and ordered yakitori, simmered turban shell, and more. The service was quick and efficient, typical of busy izakayas, but they accurately took our orders so it was no problem. I noticed more solo female customers, mostly veterans. There didn't seem to be any unruly customers, and I think the calm atmosphere of long-standing izakayas like this one is nice. The food is delicious, and in this area, I think it's one of the best. Compared to new trendy bars or more decadent places around, this first Tenma experience is the best here.

After work, I stopped by this izakaya in the Temma area for a drink, which I have been visiting since my 30s. I visited after a long time, and it felt like nothing had changed - it's a typical Osaka drinking spot. The food is average, but everything is cheap and served quickly, making it perfect for a quick drink. I used to visit this place as my first or last stop. Today, I had salt-grilled skewers and grilled hormone with a large bottle of beer and sweet potato shochu for 1400 yen. It's a great deal. Thank you for the meal! ☺

Osaka City, Kita Ward. Drinking in Tenma Season 4 with Street Fighter II, part 4. A classic spot in Tenma, Tenma Sakagura.
- Tenma Sakagura Highball (350 yen): A lemon shochu highball with a Black Nikka twist. Who knows what percentage of alcohol this is.
- Tai Ara-ni (300 yen): A pre-cooked chilled dish, bursting with flavor.
- Iwa Nori (150 yen): A reliable side dish.
- Cream Cheese with Bonito Flakes (200 yen): Cream cheese topped with bonito flakes and green onions, no seasoning. Salt or soy sauce?
- Steamed Asari Clams (200 yen): The clams are plump and delicious, their flavor seeping into the soup.
- Anko and Cheese Fritters (100 yen): Why did I choose this again... Not bad in taste, but fried food is a no-go for the latter half. After enjoying about three Tenma Sakagura Highballs, feeling a bit tipsy. Now, let's head to a Chinese restaurant instead of the usual spot.

I enjoyed a delicious coffee at a cafe to sober up a bit, then headed to a reliable sake brewery. Had 3 Highballs and 3 Lemon Sours at Misotemman Sake Brewery. The Lemon Sour here is the best! Enjoyed red snapper head, seaweed on rocks, clam steamed in sake, bean dumplings, and cheese with bonito flakes. The cheese was only 100 yen! In this era of high prices, that's a steal. As expected, I ended up completely drunk. Thanks for the meal!

I visited the restaurant at 12:25 on a regular day, and it still has a Showa-era atmosphere which is somewhat hygienic. The tiled floor and the table seats at the back give off a vibe of the past. They don't provide wet towels. There are old-fashioned aluminum ashtrays, and of course, smoking is allowed, which is nice. The neighboring izakaya offers cheap alcoholic drinks and is full, while this place is only about one-third full. A large bottle of Super Dry beer is 400 yen, which is cheap. The assorted sashimi platter, although the portions are small, is reasonably fresh. I ordered the boiled beef tendons for 140 yen and a large radish for 100 yen. The radish is big without the edges trimmed, and the tendons are a bit tough. The skewers are pre-made, and the broth is light. A Highball from Tenma Sake Brewery costs 350 yen, but it doesn't have a special feeling. The employees' conversations are easily heard since I'm sitting close to the counter. There is no background music, just silence. The total bill was 1,990 yen. It's a long-standing restaurant that is working hard even during lunchtime. I enjoyed the meal. Thank you.

When I go to Osaka, I often end up drinking alone in either Temma or Kyobashi. There are many options in Temma, so I never get bored. This bar is open from before noon until late. I had 3 cups of shochu with hot water (350 yen each) on this day. It's a common pattern for me recently. I started with skewered meat (140 yen), cabbage roll (140 yen), and burdock tempura (100 yen). Among the various types of appetizers, I first had oden. Steamed clams with sake (200 yen) is surprisingly cheap for the amount you get. Sake-steamed dishes are also one of my favorite appetizers, and this one goes really well with drinks. Grilled tuna collar (300 yen) is not very big, but this size allows you to enjoy a variety of appetizers. Seaweed (150 yen) was the final dish. It's great to have bars where you can easily enter at this price range.

Drinking during the day, wandering around Temma! Found a great izakaya with a nice atmosphere. The restaurant is long, so we sat at a table in the back. Looking at the menu, the prices seemed really cheap! We ordered oden and stingray fin, and since it was our second stop, we leisurely enjoyed beer and sake from the barrel. If I get used to these prices, I might not be able to go anywhere else! Temma is amazing!

This is my last visit to Osaka this year. There is a shop located in the middle of a very long shopping street called Tenjinbashi Suji Shopping Street, which is 2.6 kilometers long. It is close to Temma Station, which is one station away from Osaka Station on the JR Loop Line. I used to live around this area and often visited this shop. They are open from 11:00 in the morning until late at night. The best thing about this shop is the sense of liberation when drinking alone. Sitting at the counter alone, ordering some light snacks, beer or hot sake. You don't really talk to the staff except for ordering, but the prices of the snacks and drinks are very reasonable. It's casual and straightforward, and this is what makes Osaka great.
Items ordered on this day:
- Dashimaki (rolled omelette) 200 yen
- Rakkyo (pickled scallions) 150 yen
- Hot sake 280 yen x 2
- Whale sashimi 450 yen
- Natural mineral water from Nose-cho (Nose Sake Brewery) 100 yen
*Payment is cash only.

Located in the Tenjinbashi-suji Shotengai shopping street in Osaka, Japan, is a popular izakaya called "Temma Sakagura," established in 1969. Just a 3-minute walk from Temma Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line, this izakaya is easily accessible to many passersby. The exterior is adorned with rows of red lanterns and a sign displaying the name of the establishment. Inside, there is a long counter, small tables along the walls, and a few large tables at the back for bigger groups, creating a nostalgic and cozy atmosphere. The menu does not disappoint, offering a variety of dishes including sashimi, oden, fried foods, grilled dishes, and other delicious options at affordable prices. Operating from 11 am to 11 pm, this izakaya is a great spot for those looking to enjoy drinks and food without breaking the bank. Overall, a highly recommended dining experience!

This is an izakaya located in the Temma Higashi shopping street in Ura Temma. It's the fourth stop for a pub crawl in Ura Temma. As I was walking around the shopping street, I stumbled upon this visually striking restaurant with a wooden sign, red lantern, and curtain. The interior is long and narrow, and more than half full even on a weekday morning. I sat at the counter and ordered a shochu soda with sweet potato shochu. I decided to try the assorted vegetable tempura as a snack with the carbonated drink. The tempura was freshly fried and delicious with the sweet potato shochu soda. The menu and display cases were interesting to look at, and the clean, non-smoking environment was also appreciated. When I saw the mackerel in the display case, I couldn't resist ordering it as well. It was also delicious. As I was starting to feel like having a proper meal, I decided to settle the bill. Thank you for the meal.
