I always thought that when it comes to kushikatsu restaurants in Kokura Kita-ku, it's 【Amakushi】, but I was surprised that there are not many reviews! This time, I defeated my wife's "I want to eat Chinese food today" attack with a counterattack of "I want to eat fried food today!" It's been a while since we visited (laughs). The location is just around the corner from the JTB Building next to the Monorail Heiwadori Station, on the 1st floor of the Mitsuki Building. The interior of the shop, which has a long history, is not very spacious, with only counter seats and two tables in the back. There are only two course menu options: ・【Omakase Course (up to 14 skewers for 1960 yen) ・(15 skewers or more starting from 1650 yen)】 ・【Amakushi Course 2000 yen】 ・【Omakase Course (up to 14 skewers for 140 yen each) 1960 yen ・(from the 15th skewer onwards 110 yen each) 1650 yen】 We ordered the 【Omakase Course】, where skewers keep coming until you say stop (laughs) (they will let you know when you reach 15 skewers or when the first round is over). On this day, we had 【chikuwa and onion, menchi katsu, eggplant, chicken wings, tsukune, ham and green onion, inari sushi, crab stick, chicken tenderloin, quail bacon, pork and Chinese cabbage roll, taro, garlic chives, corn, scallop, tofu, white fish fry】, and the second round starts from the beginning. At the beginning, a condiment dish with three types of sauce (sauce, salt, ponzu) is served. Then, freshly fried skewers are placed on the fan-shaped dishes on the counter. You dip the skewer in the condiment that corresponds to the direction the skewer is facing. (sauce for left-facing skewers, salt for center-facing skewers, ponzu for right-facing skewers, and no condiment for skewers facing you) You can enjoy a variety of skewers from those that highlight the ingredients' flavors to unique ones like the pork and Chinese cabbage roll or inari sushi. For rice dishes, onigiri or ochazuke are good choices, but after fried food, the refreshing 【nameko mushroom rice bowl (420 yen)】 topped with egg yolk and chopped seaweed is recommended. They also offer special single skewers like 【beef fillet, pork fillet, asparagus, fatty salmon, scallop, shrimp, crab stick】 (each for 365 yen), as well as a unique dessert 【ice cream (315 yen)】. I ordered the 【ice cream (315 yen)】 just for fun (laughs). The outside is crispy and hot, and when you take a bite, the slightly melted cold ice cream inside melts out, creating a hot but cold and interesting dessert. This is a long-established kushikatsu specialty shop in Kokura, founded 27 years ago.
