On July 16, 2023, after casually strolling around Denden Town, I took the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line from Nihonbashi Station to Shin-Fukae Station. It's about a 10-minute walk from the station, right? I arrived at "Kamijyo Shotengai," a nostalgic Showa-era shopping street. This shopping street is connected to the Imazato Shotengai halfway through, making it approximately 1km in total length. One of the shops here is "Midorino," a popular eatery that perfectly matches the nostalgic atmosphere of the shopping street. I believe I first learned about this shop through a website or an article. The most popular menu item here is the Katsudon for only 650 yen, which is quite affordable! The shop is run by a single mother, and it seems like many of the customers are regulars. First, they serve a 2-liter bottle of tea as a complimentary drink, which is both a nice gesture and efficient. The mother told me, "I'm frying it now, so please wait a bit." While waiting, I helped myself to some pickles. The options were takuan, bettarazuke, and kombu with sansho pepper. Then, the Katsudon arrived! A bowl filled with tonkatsu, topped with a raw egg yolk. Just one look and you know it's going to be delicious! I took a bite of the pork cutlet, and it was so flavorful and juicy, soaked in the sauce. The use of green onions instead of regular onions was a nice touch! The rice was also soaked in the sauce, making it irresistible. And when you break the raw egg yolk on top, coating the pork cutlet, it adds another layer of richness. The double egg Katsudon was even more satisfying! The portion size was quite generous, almost like a large serving when ordered normally. I was truly impressed by the delicious, affordable, and filling Katsudon! I also couldn't help but notice the curry katsu and other noodle dishes on the menu, making this eatery a place I wouldn't get tired of visiting. Thank you for the wonderful meal!
