Nestled at the foot of the torii gate of Shitennoji Temple is the tea house "Shitennoji Chaya." The elegant one-piece signboard and red benches create a modern Japanese atmosphere. The interior, adorned with wood grain, exudes a refined and high-quality ambiance with tea utensils and antiques catching the eye. With both table and counter seating available, guests can relax in a friendly and serene atmosphere. The slender Shitennoji Parfait is a luxurious treat featuring matcha chocolate, candied chestnuts, shiratama (mochi), matcha ice cream, senbei (rice cracker), matcha bavarois, whipped cream, cornflakes, and matcha jelly, showcasing a well-balanced harmony of flavors. The Matcha Kakigori (shaved ice) uses premium matcha from Aichi Prefecture, offering a sophisticated tea aroma that fills the mouth. Topped with whipped cream, homemade warabi mochi, azuki beans, and shiratama, guests can also enjoy the matcha sauce on the side for a flavor variation. The Strawberry Kakigori comes with whipped cream, shiratama, condensed milk, and a homemade sauce. The Shitennoji Roll, named after the tea house, uses matcha from Kyoto's Hekisuien, with a sponge cake featuring a subtle matcha flavor, filled with candied chestnuts, chestnut paste cream, and warabi mochi, offering a substantial treat. The Matcha Shin'en White has a good foam and a mild bitterness that enhances the taste of sweets. In addition to sweets, the menu also includes carefully selected items such as onigiri (rice balls) and udon noodles, making it a versatile tea house with a variety of takeaway options suitable for gifts. A convenient and versatile tea house indeed.
