Zoo-mae Kushi-katsu Fujiyama KUMA Survey (Daily Use) (-80☆Excellent: / -60◎Good / -50◯Pass / -40△Average) (Taste: 60%: Store Operation 20%: Cost Performance 20%) ■ Overall Evaluation 45/100 points (Taste: 55 points) A kushi-katsu restaurant known for its crispy coating! ■ Overview Located a 3-minute walk from the Zoo-mae subway station, the restaurant is situated in a corner of the Showa-era shopping street "Jan Jan Yokocho." In this area, there are many popular kushi-katsu restaurants ranging from famous ones with 30-60 minute waits to more affordable options where you can walk in without waiting. This particular restaurant falls in the middle in terms of pricing, similar to Kushi-katsu Tanaka. The area allows smoking, and this restaurant is no exception, so it is only accessible to those over 20 years old due to regulations. In terms of taste, the kushi-katsu here is known for its crispy coating and the use of fresh seasonal ingredients. Thank you for the meal. ■ Order Dish / Price / Taste / Cost Performance ◯Appetizer: Coleslaw with curry flavor ¥242 (2 servings) ◯Bottled Beer (Dry, large bottle) ¥703 ※ / ◯ / ◯ ◯Ginger Ale ¥363 ◯Doteyaki (grilled beef and tripe skewers) ¥603 ※ / ◎ / ◯ ◯Kushi-katsu: Pork ¥165 (2 skewers) / △ / △ ◯Pork belly ¥154 (2 skewers) / ◯ / △ ◯Smelt fish ¥231 (2 skewers) / △ / △ ◯Ham cutlet ¥176 (2 skewers) / ◯ / △ ◯White onion ¥110 (2 skewers) / ◎ / ◎ ◯Eggplant ¥143 (2 skewers) / ◎ / ◯ ◯Kushi-katsu: Mixed (10 skewers) △ / △ ◯Cheese ¥154 (2 skewers) / ◯ / ◯ ◯Garlic ¥88 (2 skewers) ◯ / ◯ ◯Mochi (rice cake) ¥143 (2 skewers) ◯ / △ Subtotal ¥6754 Total bill ¥7458 ※1 --------------- Always critical detailed evaluation --------------- ■ Number of People: 4 ◯ / 2 ◯ / 1 ◯ Banquet - / Business - / Date - ■ Atmosphere & Service of the Restaurant 20/100 points 4 points (4 points pass, 5 points pass) Basic points: 4 points ◇Store 6/10 points: Near the station ◇Service 0/10 points: ※1 ◇Comfort 1/10 points: Smoking allowed, Japanese pop music playing, 2 drink minimum, counter and table seating, diverse staff, lively atmosphere, smoking allowed - Too overwhelming for me ■ Detailed Dish Evaluation 55/100 points 33 points ◯Doteyaki: Generous portion with a sweet miso flavor and tender meat without any unpleasant smell. ◯Kushi-katsu: Each skewer's evaluation is mentioned at the beginning. The crispy and crunchy coating makes it enjoyable to eat. However, the fish skewers are quite small and not recommended. The meat skewers have a small portion and feel of lower quality. On the other hand, the vegetable skewers are excellent with perfectly fried coating. ◯Bottled Beer: Nicely chilled and enjoyable. ■ Cost Evaluation 50/100 points 10 points Standard items: Beer (medium bottle Asahi) ¥594 Kushi-katsu ¥165 The beer is slightly cheaper than the reference price, and the kushi-katsu is equivalent to the average chain price. I stopped by for lunch and felt like eating kushikatsu in Shinsekai. The restaurant looked busy from the outside, so I decided to eat here. I ordered the kushikatsu and doteyaki that I wanted. Kushikatsu goes well with beer. I can't drink alcohol, so I had a non-alcoholic beer here. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and I enjoyed the meal.

I arrived before 7 pm and the restaurant was empty, but it got full in about an hour. When you want to order, make sure to wave and call one of the two busy waiters in the hall. Even if you ask the staff working inside the counter for a drink, it won't reach you at all.

This is a relatively new restaurant that opened in 2019. It offers a fusion of Showa and Reiwa eras with a focus on popular izakaya dishes like kushikatsu, as well as specialties like doteyaki and horumon. They have a solid selection of classic menu items and are open every day from 11 am, so you can enjoy a hearty meal from lunchtime. The kushikatsu starts at 80 yen per skewer, making it a great value. Be sure to check it out!

Fourth stop on my casual trip! I came across a sign in the scorching heat advertising a time sale for Chuhai and Black Nikka Chuhai for 190 yen!! Without hesitation, I decided to stop by. This area is famous for kushikatsu, but I chose something different this time. The specialty Fujiyama Deluxe Tamago had a generous serving of sauce with a strong sense of hospitality. Not skimping on ingredients seems to be the Osaka style. The tamago was not powdery and had plenty of pork and squid, so the taste of the ingredients was enough! It felt like a waste. The way the pickled cucumber was presented was great! The pickled ginger with the Chuhai was the real deal.

Second stop on the Osaka bar crawl, we visited this establishment in Shinsekai. Since the popular nearby spots were too crowded, we decided to try this place a bit further down the street. We were seated at the counter right by the entrance and started off with a highball. The complimentary dish was a sticky curry-flavored okra salad, which seemed like a good accompaniment to the kushikatsu. Since we were already quite full, we ordered a kushikatsu onion. When asked if that was all we wanted, we quickly added the recommended menu item of half-cooked egg. The kushikatsu arrived promptly. First, we tried the half-cooked egg. The batter was crispy, and the inside was delightfully gooey and delicious! I wish I had asked for more sauce! In Tokyo kushikatsu places, they often provide free cabbage which you can use to soak up extra sauce, but this place didn't seem to offer that. Next, we tried the kushikatsu. It was a standard, no-frills kushikatsu. Finally, we had the onion. I usually don't order onions, but since we were here, we decided to try the classic kushikatsu item. The onions were large, well-cooked, and had a nice sweetness to them. The batter was light, so we could have eaten more, but we wanted to continue enjoying our night in Osaka. We finished with three skewers and one more highball. Looking back, I realized we forgot to order the pickled ginger... Oh well. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the restaurant after 6 pm! I was on a business trip in Osaka and wanted to try some local specialties, so I came to this restaurant in Shinsekai! The atmosphere was like a festival every day as I walked through the lively streets! There were both counter and table seating options, and the restaurant had a decent number of seats! There were many foreign tourists as it is a popular tourist spot! I ordered kushikatsu, doteni, tongue sashimi, and cucumber! The food arrived in about 15 minutes! It was incredibly delicious and affordable! Ignoring the fact that the smell sticks to your clothes, the taste and atmosphere were great, making it the best experience!

Since I came all the way to Osaka, I wanted to eat kushikatsu! I went into this restaurant that seemed relatively crowded but had a short wait time. I ordered dote-yaki and New World hormone skewers. Unfortunately, Kotecchan in Nishinari was sold out. (For some reason, I didn't order kushikatsu...) The dote-yaki didn't leave much of an impression. The hormone skewers could have been cleaned a bit more to my liking. Thank you for the meal!

On Sunday around 8:50 PM, I was passing by Jyanjyan Yokocho and suddenly craved for some kushikatsu, so I decided to go in. It was last order at 9 PM, but since I was planning to leave soon, I went in casually. A highball was around 500 yen, and the kushikatsu was priced at 120-170 yen per skewer, so I ordered about 6 skewers. I also added an extra order of "Kotecchan" from Nishinari. In the end, it cost around 1,850 yen. The highball was strong and delicious, and the Kotecchan was amazing! The kushikatsu was nostalgic and carefully made, making it a delicious meal. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely go back again soon! ^ ^

From Shinsekai to Janjan Yokocho. The rough atmosphere is as usual (laughs), but it feels like it has become a tourist spot, and the dangerous-looking people seem to have decreased, right? (laughs) Passing by around noon, everywhere is open for business, so I decided to stop in here for a drink. It was just after opening, so there were hardly any customers, and I sat at the counter alone. I enjoyed some draft beer for 528 yen, kushikatsu for 154 yen, blowfish for 275 yen, lotus root for 198 yen, chicken skewers for 143 yen, pork belly for 143 yen, sandfish for 220 yen, and an appetizer for 198 yen, gulping it all down. I dipped everything in the sauce, which is not allowed for double dipping. It's fun to eat and drink in Janjan Yokocho, and it makes me happy for some reason (laughs). Nothing special, I'm probably the biggest tourist here (laughs).

There was a shop I wanted to visit in Tennoji, but it was temporarily closed. So, I decided to head to Shinsekai instead. This is a kushikatsu restaurant that opened in 2019, where you can not only enjoy kushikatsu but also various types of fried foods. The prices include tax. The batter is thin and the texture is fluffy and crispy. The shrimp and kisu were particularly delicious. The sauce is light and doesn't overpower the natural flavors of the ingredients. The variety of choices is great, and I would love to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

During my business trip in Osaka, I headed to Tengu-san's place where I usually visit... Huh? Unusually long line... Turns out it's tourists from overseas causing the crowd... Oh well... I ended up trying a nearby place. Nothing particularly outstanding, but they had a wide variety of izakaya-style dishes and the drinks were good. They also offered various types of flour-based dishes. For tourists, I think Fujiyama might be a better option... Overall, it was a tasty meal! Thank you for the meal!

I tried entering a shop that has never been there before at Jan Jan Yokocho. It was good that I didn't have to wait in line. The kushikatsu had a crispy coating and was thin. They also had teppanyaki on the menu, so I ordered it after seeing the chef in action. It was quite delicious.

I ordered yuzu-flavored chilled tofu, beef harami yukhoe, doteyaki, kushikatsu with pickled ginger, hormone iwashi, beef salmon tartare curry. I was intrigued by the mystery of what would be on the skewers. The recommended mentaiko was delicious. The drinks were cheap and there was a wide variety of menu options, so I felt at ease.

At night in Osaka, go for kushikatsu! Since the popular Yae Shoten had a long line, I decided to try Fujiyama located nearby. (I went to Yae Shoten another day and personally, I preferred the kushikatsu here!) I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered randomly, but everything was a hit! The dipping sauces were also delicious and it made my trip to Osaka worth it. However, the staff didn't come around much and the atmosphere inside was a bit noisy. Also, there was no call bell, which was a bit disappointing.

I wanted to feel Osaka again, so I visited this restaurant. It had been a while. It was a weekday afternoon, but the counter was full. The breading was a bit oily, but tasty. However, it can make you feel bloated. It's a shame they don't have cabbage at the counter.

Heavy wins were out due to a huge line, Tengu ran out of material and closed at 7pm on a holiday Saturday, maybe because it was so crowded with people! Daruma was also lined up, but Fujiyama had a single seat available for a walk-in, so we went there. They not only serve deep-fried skewers, but also teppanyaki and rice dishes, so there are many options for young people! The majority of the customers were young. But it was delicious! The asparagus was tender and everything was delicious! I will come back again.

I come regularly to the bustling Janjan Yokocho to liven up the Osaka restaurants that have been struggling due to the pandemic. Today, I visited "Fujiyama" where the atmosphere is relaxed and the prices are reasonable. They have a variety of drinks including highballs, shochu, plum wine, sake, gin and soda, and more, all at affordable prices. The food menu includes Western-style dishes, gyoza fried rice, tarako kushikatsu, and more. The tarako kushikatsu is a must-try, and the hot tofu is delicious. The atmosphere and prices at Fujiyama make it a great spot to enjoy Osaka's food culture. Let's all head to Janjan Yokocho!

Now, the second place recommended by Yaesho-san is here. It's usually not very crowded, but it caught my interest so I entered. I sat at the counter, looked through the menu, and ordered what seemed like "dote-yaki" and a lemon chu-hi. The dote-yaki was more like dote-ni, but it was delicious. While eating and drinking, a part-time worker approached me and asked, "Did you go to the Toka Ebisu festival?" I'm from Hokkaido, so I hadn't gone, and he said, "Huh? I'm from Hokkaido too!" I was surprised, but it turns out he's a student who's home in Osaka for winter break, working part-time. He was very friendly, a rare type these days. He said he's already decided to work in Hokkaido, so I'm thinking of visiting unexpectedly next time. Time flew by and it was closing time, so I'll head back to the campsite. I want to try other menu items here, so I'll come back again. Thank you for the meal! (-人-) ===========

Table and counter seats were available for lunch at this restaurant I visited. Unfortunately, they were sold out of craft beer and highball at the time, so I ordered a cider which was sweet. I ordered deep-fried skewers, liver sashimi, and doteyaki. The batter on the skewers was crispy and not oily. The lemon sour was not too sweet, just right.
