Title: "Should have gone earlier!"
When I visited last time, I checked the sales date for the home-use broken rice crackers for the following month, and since I happened to pass by the area on that day, I decided to visit again to restock. It was a little after 1 o'clock when I arrived, and surprisingly, the store was empty. To my surprise, all the products I bought last time, such as Harimayaki, Asahiage, and the popular home-use bags of Kagayaki Mangetsu, were all sold out. The only items left were some lighter flavored rice crackers, and even those were only a few bags left. I had no choice but to purchase what was available. When I asked the staff, they mentioned that the popular home-use products sell out in the morning. Everyone seems to be getting their hands on them early. By the way, the next sales date is December 7th (Friday). It's usually on Fridays.
[Initial Visit]
Title: "Purchased Asahiage and Kagayaki Mangetsu for home use"
I've known about Harimaya since I was young, but back then, the rice crackers my parents used to buy were like mochi with Tamba black beans, and I didn't know that Asahiage was the bestseller. I recently learned about Kagayaki Mangetsu on Tabelog, so when I returned to my hometown, I decided to visit the store in Osaka-Esaka after a long time. The free tea service that used to be available in the past now has a sign saying it's a "rest area for customers who have made a purchase," so there seems to be some restrictions in place. The staff were serving oshiruko, and it seemed to be popular among the older ladies. There was a line for buying rice crackers. Today happened to be the sales date for the home-use broken rice crackers. They were reasonably priced, so I impulsively bought Asahiage (420 yen), Kagayaki Mangetsu (420 yen), and Harimayaki (315 yen). Buying them individually packaged costs about twice as much, and if you get them in a box, it's over 1000 yen, so the home-use option feels like a good deal. The regular customers in line all seemed to have membership cards, but I'm not sure what benefits they offer. The taste of Asahiage was like a refined version of bonchiage with less oil. The aroma was nice. Harimayaki is similar to onigiri senbei. The curry flavor of Kagayaki Mangetsu was unexpectedly rich, with spiciness kicking in later. It's a shame that they opened a similar store in Nagoya Sakae two years ago but closed it shortly after. However, it's a good find as a souvenir from Osaka to Nagoya.
