I had eaten too much breakfast at the hotel, so I decided to have a late lunch. I had planned on having a seafood bowl for lunch. I thought the seafood bowl shops at the Hakodate Morning Market would be open during the day, but I could only find two open shops. One of them had pictures of hairy crab shell and hokke sashimi on the glass outside the shop, but they were not available. The wakame miso soup was delicious (with refills).

I was hesitating between various options at Donburi Yokocho, but decided to go to this restaurant. There was only one other customer before us, probably because it was a weekday. It seems like the restaurant is run by a couple. We were seated at the counter and ordered the three kinds of donburi: sea urchin, salmon roe, and scallop, as well as a half of grilled mackerel. They offer unlimited rice and miso soup refills. The sea urchin had a strong chemical smell, and the salmon roe was small in size. The atmosphere was cozy and nice, but a bit disappointing.

This is a shop that was open during idol time, outside of business hours. A taxi driver had recommended it as delicious. At that time, there was a shortage of squid, so we couldn't have sashimi. The scallops were also very crunchy, and what surprised me the most was the crab cream croquette. There was overwhelmingly more crab meat than cream, and I was laughing as I ate it, thinking, "What is this?" It was a very luxurious crab cream croquette, haha.

Hmm... I was expecting something more, but it felt like a tourist spot. Considering the price, it's a bit disappointing for being in Hakodate. I left early and headed to Hakotaro revolving sushi. I don't think I'll come back. The restaurant was clean though. Thank you for the meal.

In Hakodate Morning Market, there is a free time market from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Even though it's called a morning market, it goes on until around 2:00 pm. Walking around the market, I felt a bit anxious seeing not many people, but decided to try some grilled fish and seafood bowl. I thought they only had squids, but they also had saffron cod...wow, such huge cuts! I was able to change the sweet shrimp in the seafood bowl to squid. There were 8 Asian people who spoke broken English and a young man who kindly offered me more rice and miso soup (he didn't offer me, though, haha). The older lady complimented me, which made me happy. Thank you, kind people, for the delicious meal and hospitality.

A shop located at the end of the Donburi Yokocho in Hakodate Asaichi Morning Market. I went around 7 pm and this shop was the only one open. I had a seafood bowl with salmon and salmon roe. It cost 1650 yen. The staff were friendly. You could get free refills of rice and miso soup. ^^

This time, we visited this popular restaurant for a location shoot. Located right near the Hakodate Morning Market, this place was a hit. We filmed here from the morning and had lunch after the shoot. Oh my, Hakodate is too luxurious! For lunch, we were told we could eat whatever we liked since it was a location shoot. I was ecstatic! There's nothing better than that. Even though I had already eaten seafood rice bowls during the shoot, I still had room for more. I was torn between getting a set meal or a rice bowl. It's hard to decide. I want to try everything, but there's only so much my stomach can hold. So, I went for the Michi Shita Donburi (mixed seafood bowl) for 2420 yen. It's the most popular menu item with the restaurant's name attached. You can choose your favorite ingredients, but I couldn't resist adding all four types of seafood. The presentation was mouthwatering. The fresh seafood was shining and the sea urchin on top was a delightful surprise. The scallops were plump and sweet, and the portion size was generous with various ingredients. The sea urchin was delicious, and even those who don't like it might change their minds after tasting this quality. The sea urchin was so big that it covered four portions. The scallops were large and juicy, with a sweet flavor. The director was discussing the schedule for the studio shoot while we were eating. I tried to pay attention to the conversation, but my focus was on the food! The salted squid was surprisingly delicious, with no fishy smell. The sea urchin was incredibly sweet and the scallops were thick and tender. In Hakodate, the rice in seafood bowls is warm, which was a surprise for me at first. The warm rice complements the sashimi well. I savored the sea urchin, salmon roe, crab, and scallops all at once, and each flavor unfolded beautifully. It was a unique experience that I had never had before. Such a delicious meal makes me envious, but this location shoot was a rare treat due to the pandemic. Thank you for the feast!

Seafood bowl restaurant located in the morning market in Hakodate. It is located right after leaving Hakodate Station. When I visited on Sunday at 4 pm, most of the other seafood bowl restaurants were already closed, and only a few, including this one, were still open. Since it is a market shop, they seem to close around 3 pm. I was glad that this shop was still open at this time. There were two groups of customers ahead of me. A friendly lady greeted and served us. She was friendly yet very considerate of the customers, which made me feel warm. I ordered the *Greed Set B for 2750 yen. The Greed Sets A, B, and C differed in the types of seafood toppings on the bowl. Each set came with squid sashimi, miso soup, and a side dish. The B set included sea urchin, crab, and scallops, all of which were fresh. Especially the squid sashimi had a crunchy texture and a unique chewiness, completely different from what I have had in Tokyo. I highly recommend it! Hokkaido seafood is truly special. Everything was incredibly delicious. I also tried the *Michishita Don for 2750 yen. It had sea urchin, salmon roe, crab, and scallops as toppings. The salmon roe was plump, the scallops were tender, the sea urchin was moist and rich, and the crab had a concentrated umami flavor. It was undeniably delicious. Thank you for the feast.

On May 3rd, during Golden Week, all the restaurants at Donburi Yokocho were extremely crowded with long lines, to the point where I almost gave up. Luckily, I found a less crowded restaurant called Michishitashoten and was able to enjoy their "greedy set" which had a combination of toppings that suited my taste. I ordered Set A while my companion ordered Set C. The bowl came with sweet shrimp, salmon roe, crab, scallops, squid sashimi, and grilled fish. We shared and enjoyed the squid sashimi and salmon, they were delicious! It was a happy morning. The price was a bit high at 2750 yen, but it was worth it for the variety of delicious toppings in the "greedy set." Since all the restaurants use fish caught from the same sea, the freshness is similar, but the key is finding a combination that suits your taste. When Donburi Yokocho is too crowded, I recommend walking 3 minutes to a hidden gem called "Kuishinbo Hakodate." I have been there twice in the past (in 2013 and 2019), and both times it was not crowded and the food was delicious. The restaurant has a fish tank, and I even saw some locals there.☆Phone: 0138-24-2211

The food was really delicious, fresh, and the staff was funny. It was the best!! There are almost 10 shops where you can eat seafood bowls at Hakodate Morning Market, and all of them have long lines. After looking at various menus, I decided to visit this shop. It was the right choice... A lively old lady served us. Look at how fresh and shiny this is... You can't eat this in the city. And the fact that this shop doesn't have the longest line. The first of the Big Four, but it seems there is still a final boss.笑笑

If you go to Hakodate, I highly recommend trying the crab cream croquette here! It's delicious no matter how many times you eat it! I probably ordered another one. Haha. I would like to hear about a restaurant that can beat the crab cream croquette at Michi Shita Shoten, which is no different from other places in terms of donburi and set meals.

I came to Hakodate for the first time and when I think of Hakodate, I think of seafood. I tried to order the cod and salmon belly set meal and the crab cream croquette, but both were sold out. So, I ended up ordering the Okhotsk atka mackerel and salmon belly set meal. The taste was delicious, but it didn't quite reach the level of being impressive. The menu seemed to have individual items based on the photos, but during lunchtime, there weren't many individual items available, so my evaluation is a bit strict. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Visited at 1:00 p.m. on March 11, 2022. Finished work in Hakodate and hurried back to Honshu. Before leaving, I had to eat squid when in Hakodate, so I quickly headed to the "Donburi Yokocho Market" near Hakodate Station. Located at the southeast corner of the Donburi Yokocho Market, "Michishita Shoten" was my choice out of the 10 or so shops operating there. The deciding factor was the "Fresh Herring Sashimi" written at the entrance. Due to the freshness, it is a rare sashimi that is almost impossible to eat in Honshu. This time, I ordered the "Squid Sashimi Set ¥1,100" and the "Fresh Herring Sashimi ¥858" as the set meal comes with unlimited rice. The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes. The morning-caught squid sashimi from Hakodate looked delicious with its transparency. The fresh herring sashimi looked like a sea bream with fresh fat on it. It can be made into fresh sashimi because it swims in the tank until just before filleting. Both the squid sashimi and fresh herring sashimi were delicious, and the rice kept disappearing. In the end, I ended up eating three bowls of rice thanks to the unlimited offer. The squid salted with the meal was also excellent. With no regrets, I can now return to Honshu. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Welcome.
In the area in front of Hakodate Station, there is a restaurant at the end of the Hakodate Asaichi Donburi Yokocho. The interior of the restaurant is styled like a cafeteria. Despite the current situation, there were tourists around, but everywhere seemed a bit worn down. I decided to order a set meal after looking at the menu outside.
Upon closer inspection of the menu, I noticed they had an "Squid Sashimi Set Meal" which was not displayed outside. Not only was this option cheaper, but it also seemed to have a larger portion. You can have unlimited miso soup with any meal on the menu.
I ended up ordering the "Today's Sashimi Set Meal" which included bluefin tuna, salmon, shrimp, and two scallops. The salmon had a moist, homemade taste, and the salted squid was flavorful enough to go well with a bowl of rice. The "Squid Sashimi Set Meal" seemed much more appealing in comparison.
I wished the alcohol was cheaper so I could have enjoyed a drink and supported the local economy. Nevertheless, the prices for the meals were surprisingly reasonable for a tourist area.

This was my third visit to Hakodate with the determination to finally try the "dancing squid" dish, only to find out that the restaurant closed at 2 pm. Feeling disappointed, I decided to try out one of the two open restaurants in Donburi Yokocho in the evening, and ended up at Michishita Shoten. Although I was tempted by their unique "Michishita Don" (featuring salmon roe, sea urchin, scallops, and crab), I couldn't resist ordering the "Special Seafood Bowl" as I was craving for fish. The bowl was like a "sashimi all-star" with a variety of delicious seafood beautifully arranged. The presentation was so picturesque that it was satisfying just to look at it. And the taste did not disappoint - the sweet shrimp was incredibly sweet, the sea urchin had a rich flavor that lingered, the octopus and squid were miraculously tender, and the tuna melted in my mouth. Despite the few customers, the sole proprietress managed the place efficiently, and the regret of not being able to try the "dancing squid" dish faded away thanks to the delicious meal. Thank you very much!

This is a shop in the Donburi Yokocho at Hakodate Asaichi Morning Market. Shops near the market are naturally fresh and delicious. However, even a slight difference could affect the number of customers. The seafood at this shop was also very fresh and delicious! Thank you for the great meal!

I visited a restaurant called Senman Lunch located at the end of the Donburi Yokocho in the morning market for the first time. This restaurant offers a squid sashimi set meal, and they provide free refills for rice and miso soup. Considering the price of 1000 yen, I was satisfied with the ample amount and quality of squid.

On the evening of April 29, 2021 (Thursday, holiday), after finishing driving a rental car during a visit to Hakodate, I went to the market while waiting for the train and had a glass of classic beer to cheers. I ordered hokke sashimi and crab cream croquette for food. The hokke sashimi was incredibly fresh, with just the right amount of fat and very delicious. The richness of the fish goes well with the beer. Next, I had freshly fried crab cream croquette. It was super luxurious with plenty of crab meat inside. There was so much crab in it, making it very different from the usual cream croquette I eat. The service was also excellent, and I left very satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Day 5 of the expedition. It's already the second half. So, I decided to eat as much as I can with full determination haha. I skipped the hotel breakfast and headed to the morning market. There were some things I wanted to buy as well. Before shopping, I wanted to satisfy my hunger, so I went to the Donburi Yokocho Market. However, many shops were not open on this day! I imagined that maybe due to the heavy rain warning issued in Hakodate the previous day, the fishing was affected and the shops couldn't operate properly. So, considering the available shops and what I wanted to eat, I chose this one. The interior of the shop was cramped as expected. I took a seat at the counter. I ordered the squid sashimi and ikura rice bowl with a draft beer (Sapporo Classic, of course). The total was 2035 yen (tax included). I decided to challenge myself with the ikura. It was delicious! I felt like I could gradually taste the flavor of the ikura. However, I still felt like I needed more wasabi soy sauce. I also tried the salted fish roe side dish, and surprisingly, I could eat it! I had avoided it before due to a bad experience in the past, but it had a unique flavor, so I may need to get used to it more. So, I thoroughly enjoyed the first place. I think I can handle another one haha. Thank you for the meal.

When leaving the hotel and walking towards the station to find a place for breakfast, you come across a street filled with rice bowl restaurants. Deciding to eat here, you enter a building with multiple shops across a hallway. After looking around, you choose the nearest shop. Upon entering, you notice a few tourists waiting at the entrance. Although there are empty seats inside, the staff is slow to seat customers, making you feel a bit uneasy. Eventually, you are seated at a counter on the right side. You consider ordering the squid sashimi set meal (1000 yen), but ultimately decide on the 5 kinds of sashimi rice bowl (2500 yen) to treat yourself. You choose squid, salmon, scallop, sea urchin, and salmon roe as your toppings. The restaurant is somewhat busy, but the service is not exceptional. After a wait of about 20 minutes, your rice bowl is served. The waiting time is longer than expected. Nevertheless, you finally get to enjoy your meal, savoring each topping and taking breaks with the pickled vegetables. The miso soup is on the salty side. While the seafood is fresh and delicious, you feel that the portion of each topping in the 5-kind bowl is a bit small, and you regret not choosing the 3-kind option for a more satisfying experience. Overall, the meal was satisfying in terms of taste, but the service and waiting time left something to be desired.
