I visited during lunchtime. The interior of the restaurant is not very spacious, with mostly counter seats. I decided on the BBQ lunch set for 780 yen, which arrived in less than 10 minutes. I was expecting a bit more volume, but the taste of the miso and rice was delicious. The BBQ meat was sweet and savory, and when eaten with vegetables, it made me want to keep scooping rice. The side dishes were cold tofu and pickled mustard greens. Looking at the menu, there are many other dishes I would like to try. Thank you for the meal.

"Tenzan Shokudo" is a Showa era-style diner located in Chiyomachi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City. The restaurant is conveniently close to the "Gyomu Super Hakata Sensho Store." The atmosphere of the restaurant, both inside and out, is very nostalgic and reminiscent of the Showa era, which I love. I decided to visit this restaurant as it is within walking distance from my workplace. As I sat at the counter, I looked over the menu and found that they offer a wide variety of dishes at very reasonable prices. I ordered the fried rice set (700 yen including tax), which came with fried rice, fried chicken, salad, soup, and Fukujinzuke. The fried rice had a home-cooked taste to it, with a subtle flavor that paired well with the Fukujinzuke. The fried chicken was on the smaller side, but it was freshly fried and hot, which I enjoyed. I finished my meal in no time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very homey and welcoming. I overheard a regular customer thanking the staff for the delicious meal, and the staff responded with warm farewells. It was a heartwarming experience. This is the kind of place that you would want to visit every day if it were closer to you. I will definitely be returning to Tenzan Shokudo in Chiyomachi for another visit soon!

On July 22, 2023, I went to check out a place that was said to be both affordable and delicious for lunch. They had a grilled meat set for 780 yen and a fried rice set for 700 yen (with fried chicken, salad, and soup included). Both options were quite filling, perfect for when you want to eat a lot for lunch. The grilled meat was tender beef belly marinated in a sweet sauce, with just the right amount of fat for flavor. The vegetables were cooked just right, still crunchy, which went well with the rice. The fried rice was well-seasoned and had a rich color, but it was surprisingly light and delicious, making it hard to stop eating. This was my first time trying the Hirekatsu Katsudon, and the meat was tender and very delicious. The portion size was quite generous, making it a great value for the price. The Ginger Pork also looked delicious.

Chiyono Noodle Restaurant - Lunch menu: Chinese-style yakisoba for 570 yen.

It is a diner located a little off the main street. The shop is not very spacious. When I visited around 2 pm, there were two other customers. They seemed to be taking a break rather than just eating, reading magazines. It is run by a kind-looking older man. I ordered the Oyakodon set meal for 600 yen. The interior is not new but it is clean and well-maintained, which I liked. While waiting, one of the other customers started smoking. It's not a non-smoking place, so it couldn't be helped. I waited for about 20 minutes. The meal included rice, Oyakodon, seaweed soup, cold tofu, and pickles. It was smaller than I expected but tasted delicious. Since the smoking didn't stop, I hurriedly finished my meal and left. I might try the beef tendon curry next time!

When I ordered the yakiniku set meal, I was pleasantly surprised to find a generous portion of stir-fried vegetables on the side. For only 750 yen, the taste was satisfying and the serving size was ample. It felt like a comforting home-cooked meal. As we settled the bill and prepared to leave, the staff kindly wished us well. Although it was still early for lunch, there was one other female customer besides us. It's a casual dining spot where you can easily drop by for a meal.

Opposite Sensho of Chiyono, there is a diner called "Tenzan Shokudo". The menu has a wide variety and everything is very affordable. They have champon starting from 500 yen. What caught my attention was the crispy yakisoba. It reminds me of the nostalgic taste of my grandmother's house in Nagasaki. It costs 550 yen and is generously covered in sauce. The noodles are nice and crispy. Some people prefer to let them soften while others enjoy them crispy and crunchy, I prefer the latter. Additionally, it comes with vinegar which adds an authentic touch. I wasn't a fan of putting too much vinegar before, but I started eating it because it's good for the body.
