I have started a gourmet website for Mitomi Emon. Homepage "https://blog.33inc.jp/" Instagram "@mitomi_emon" When it comes to famous pork bun shops, in Tokyo it would be "Kagurazaka Gojuban", in Osaka it would be "551 Horai", and in Yokohama Chinatown it would be "Hishinrou". So, what about the famous pork bun shop in Fukuoka? Without a doubt, Yangtze River Pork Bun would be at the top. Established in 1957 in Kokura, this popular shop has been featured in the media numerous times. They are actively expanding their stores, and even have a store on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, a representative tourist spot in Fukuoka Prefecture. You can't miss the large yellow facade. The pork bun has a very large silhouette. It is filled with so much juicy meat juice that lives up to the warning about the meat juice. The richness of the meat and the sweetness of the onions spread out explosively. After taking a bite, try adding vinegar soy sauce inside. The refreshing acidity balances out the flavors, while the soy sauce adds saltiness and umami. This flavor change is a must. Be sure to try Fukuoka's representative pork bun before and after visiting the shrine!

On March 19, 2023 (Sunday) at 13:20, I made a surprise visit to a popular pork bun shop near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It has been featured in the media, and when I visited, there was a line of nearly 30 people. Since it's for takeout, the line moved quickly. Of course, I purchased some pork buns. - Shop Features - Payment is cash only for orders - Pork buns available fresh or frozen - Always crowded but quick turnover for takeout - Order Details - Pork Bun / ¥330 The pork bun in a plastic container was pleasantly warm. Following the instructions, I took a bite, but...wait, there's much less filling than I expected. In the photos, the buns are packed full of meat filling, but in reality, it's quite different. The filling consists of coarsely ground pork and chunks of onions. The sweetness of the onions adds a nice flavor. Adding the provided vinegar soy sauce halfway through enhances the taste even more. However, for those who prefer hearty pork buns, this might be a bit lacking. The skin is soft, making it easy to eat. Overall, it's disappointing that the photos and reality are so different. Honestly, at ¥330, the quality is quite high. (Well, it's a tourist spot, so the price is understandable.) Personally, I would have preferred to pay more for a pork bun packed full of filling as shown in the photos. But well, the flavor is likely to appeal to everyone. It has a gentle taste that even children would enjoy. Well, thank you for the meal!

The pork bun had plenty of onions, juicy meat juices, and a firm skin. It was different from the pork buns in Yokohama's Chinatown and Osaka's 551 Horai, with a nostalgic and homely feel. It was so juicy that it was served in a plastic container instead of a paper wrapper!

In Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, there is a place called "Yangtze River" where I tried their pork bun on the way to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It is a popular street food in Dazaifu. The pork bun costs 330 yen each and is quite large. It was crowded even on a weekday afternoon. The pork bun is juicy, so it may be a bit messy to eat while walking. It is about the size of a face, so quite big. I sat on a bench across the street to enjoy it. The taste is delicious, with plenty of onions and meat inside. The flavor is a bit mild, so I recommend adding vinegar soy sauce. The dough is very soft, making it a bit difficult to eat, but it is quite filling. Thank you for the meal!

There is a shop in Dazaifu that sells pork buns. In addition to pork buns, they also sell dumplings and shumai frozen. There is a place to dispose of empty containers after eating. I had a pork bun. The pork bun is large even when just one. It gives the impression that there is a lot of onions in the pork bun.

Located along a side street off the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is Nikuman-ya. Its bright yellow facade stands out, drawing you in. The front of the store displays photos from when it was featured on TV, with many celebrities and entertainers enjoying their pork buns. You can catch a glimpse of the inside of the store through some windows, but photography is not allowed. The pork buns are steamed in large steamers, and when you place an order, they are taken out and served to you. Orders are taken at the window in front of the store, and it is take-out only. The pork buns are priced at 330 yen each and are quite large with a generous amount of filling. When you take a bite, you'll experience the soft and fluffy texture of the bun, with plenty of coarsely ground pork and finely chopped onions inside. The seasoning is subtle, but if you feel like it needs more flavor, there is a small packet of soy sauce provided for you to add. They also provide you with a wet towel and disposable chopsticks. I ate mine without using the chopsticks, which resulted in a messy, juicy experience. It seems to be a local favorite, as I saw a lot of locals buying in bulk. It was ranked first in the pork bun category in a local gourmet ranking on a Kyushu-based TV station.

Yesterday, I met up with a drinking buddy in Fukuoka and we decided to take a 2-night, 3-day trip after his junior high school graduation ceremony. While waiting for our meeting time, I enjoyed visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and trying the famous pork buns on my own. #Fukuoka #DazaifuStation #DazaifuTenmanguShrine #juniorhighschoolteacher

Many people may have been like "huh?" at first, right? Oh, before that, is anyone even reading this? lol Well, never mind then (laughs). I bought some meat buns. Yep yep. Regardless of the cabbage or onion, I think it might have been my first time trying a meat bun with lots of onions. Of course, it was delicious (laughs). Thank you for the meal. This place always seems to lead me here, doesn't it?

Located a 3-5 minute walk from Dazaifu Station is the popular meat bun shop, Yangtze River Dazaifu branch. Many celebrities have visited this shop, which is one of the most popular in Dazaifu, where you can purchase juicy meat buns overflowing with meat juice. They also provide disposable chopsticks, so you can enjoy your meal without getting your hands dirty, which is a nice touch. This time, I purchased their popular meat buns. When you take a bite, the rich and deep flavor of the overflowing meat juice is delightful, and the sweetness of the large-cut onions adds to the deliciousness. You can also enjoy a change in flavor by dipping it in vinegar soy sauce. This is a recommended restaurant for food hopping around Dazaifu, so be sure to visit. Thank you for the meal!

I enjoyed the pork buns from Agekoya near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for 300 yen including tax. There is usually a long line, but this time, due to the current situation, I was able to get them quickly on a Saturday afternoon around 2 pm. They were quite large, so I got two of them, each in a separate container, which made it easy for my friend and me to enjoy them. We sat on a nearby bench, followed the instructions to flip the buns, make a cut, and pour vinegar soy sauce on them before eating. They were hot and delicious, filled with plenty of onions, which was great. The generous portion was perfect after climbing Mt. Hoju. I highly recommend Agekoya's pork buns. The shop's main branch seems to be in Kokura, Kitakyushu City, but I also bought some Sabazuke (miso-marinated mackerel) and pig's feet from the Ogasawara clan tradition at Kokura Castle to enjoy at home later. After leaving Fukuoka Airport, the rain stopped right away as we headed to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine for the New Year's visit. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there were very few visitors, but we considered it lucky. Before that, my partner wanted to visit "Yoshikawa" in the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. This place is famous for its large pork buns filled with plenty of juicy meat, and there are many autographs from celebrities. You can also get posters and calendars from KitaShinjiro, just ask for them. The pork buns are larger than usual, steamed until the skin is soft and difficult to hold. However, the filling didn't have as much juice as expected. The taste is sweet and mild, unlike the more flavorful pork buns I usually eat in Osaka. Overall, it was good judging by the long line. Thank you for the meal!

Famous shop located in a narrow alley off the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The storefront is filled with photos and autographs of celebrities who have visited. They offer a big, heavy meat bun for 300 yen, filled with crunchy sweet onions and plenty of ingredients. It's so big that you might get tired of it alone. It comes with vinegar soy sauce for a refreshing taste change. A snack on the way to Itoshima, while looking forward to oysters and seafood feasts. I only had a taste of the meat bun. After a break at Futamigaura, about an hour away, I walked along the beautiful beach and was completely satisfied. Now, it's time for grilled oysters! Then maybe a visit to Fukuoka Tower to see the sunset, followed by motsunabe for dinner. But then... I was asked to stop by a spot that's perfect for Instagram. Reluctantly agreeing, we ended up spending over an hour there, enjoying the palm tree swing and other spots. It was a fun place, perfect for those who love Instagram-worthy spots. And all the oyster huts closed early, so we had to give up on that. The drive along the coast, with views of Nokonoshima Island, was a wonderful route, but every time we passed a tempting restaurant, I couldn't help but sigh. I suggested a quick coffee stop to warm up, but my daughter reminded me that we had a parfait reservation at the hotel. The thought of being late made me shiver... Route search... Oh no, we're already 15 minutes late! Crank up the heat and hurry to Hakata. I asked my daughter to take a photo of me as a souvenir. The title? "I Want to Eat Grilled Oysters." Sadly laughing.

When it comes to "Yoshikawa" pork buns, it can be said that there is hardly anyone in Kitakyushu who does not know about it. I quite like it myself, and I bought it at a store in Kokura Kita Ward last year or the year before. On this day, I went to a store near Tenmangu Shrine in Dazaifu City. One pork bun costs 300 yen. ....... Huh! 300 yen? I had to look twice. Wasn't it 200 yen at the store in front of Kokura Station? Maybe my memory is wrong, or perhaps there has been some historical inflation in Kitakyushu that I'm not aware of? If the intention was, "If it's for Tenmangu Shrine, tourists will come in droves even if it's more expensive, so let's mark it up by 1.5 times!" isn't that looking down on people too much? But maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me, and business practices are a company's prerogative, so I'll leave it at that.... It's a big pork bun♪ I turn it upside down to prevent the juices from overflowing, but wait, there's no juice. It's very delicious with plenty of sweetness from the onions being a characteristic. I think that if there is juice inside the pork bun at the Kitakyushu store, half of it is from the moisture of the onions. Oh, the price is shocking and it's not getting me excited. "It's 1.2 times the size of a convenience store pork bun, but 2.5 times the price"..... I don't feel like buying it in Dazaifu anymore.

This is a popular shop known for its delicious pork buns located a little off the main path from the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. You can easily spot it by the bright yellow sign and the long line of customers. Their pork buns cost 300 yen each and have won first place in the B-Class Club Kyushu Strongest Championship in the pork bun category. The harmony of onions and pork in the bun is unbeatable.

Pork bun shop. Located near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, this shop is popular among tourists. There are many photos of celebrities displayed outside. Pork bun (300 yen): A large pork bun the size of an adult's fist. The thick, elastic skin is delicious, and the filling is generous, about half the amount shown in the photos. When you split it open, the juice overflows, so it's best to eat it with chopsticks without moving it. The taste is quite mild, with plenty of onions standing out more than the meat, but adding vinegar soy sauce balances the flavor well, so that's the default way to eat it. It's worth the price for its size.

Kasa no Ie's famous pork buns are loved by many, especially at their Ayako River Dazaifu store. I sometimes visit their store near Kokura Station, but since I don't have a steamer at home, I don't buy them as souvenirs. The pork buns here are delicious when freshly steamed, priced at 300 yen each. There were about 4-5 groups in line. I bought four buns and thought about eating them at Dazaifu Kan across the street, but the second floor was closed. So, I ended up eating in the car in the parking lot, which was cramped and not very convenient. First, I flipped the bun over to remove the bottom paper. The paper peels off cleanly now that they have switched to paper instead of thin wooden sheets. Then, I drizzled vinegar soy sauce on the torn part of the bun. I carefully ate it to avoid spilling the juicy meat juice, enjoying the chewy outer dough and the soft, juicy filling with plenty of diced onions. The sweetness and texture of the onions really added to the overall flavor. The portion was generous, and although I still had some room in my stomach, I had to leave as I was short on time. Thank you for the meal. I took a photo of the storefront, but it seems to have been deleted, and I didn't take many photos in the car due to the limited space.

While exploring Dazaifu for the first time with a friend, we stumbled upon this shop with a catchy sign claiming to be the winner of the B-Shoku Club Kyushu Strongest Championship in the Nikuman category. Intrigued, we decided to give it a try. The nikuman that arrived was larger than expected and piping hot. The first bite released a burst of juicy meat filling, with the pork flavor concentrated and delicious. The generous amount of sweet onions inside added a nice touch.

I always go to Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, so when I decided to go to Hakata, I immediately thought of visiting Dazaifu! Next year will be a crucial time for my two children, so I wanted to go there. It's been over 30 years since my middle school field trip, so I don't remember anything... I must be getting old! After praying at Dazaifu Shrine, I came here. The sign said "meat juice"... I followed the instructions to turn it upside down, but there was no juice? Nothing... The skin had a YAMAZA-like texture, and the filling had a nice sweetness of onions, but... I think I prefer the Nikomi one! It was quite big and only 300 yen. It was enough for lunch. ♡

The pork bun is voluminous and costs 300 yen. The skin is quite thick, so it's hard to say if it's worth it. The meat juice doesn't overflow, so you can bite into it normally. The filling has a noticeable pork smell, but it's not too bad with the vinegar soy sauce. In terms of cost performance, convenience store Chinese buns win. In terms of taste, those from Yokohama or Kobe Chinatown win. However, it's nice to be able to easily eat while walking around Dazaifu on a sunny day!

Fukuoka Day 2. Food tour in Dazaifu. Dazaifu... it's a tourist spot. Similar to Arashiyama in Kyoto, right? We tried several things, but the most recommended is here! Ayukoji-san's meat bun. There must be other stores if there's a Dazaifu store, right?? Inside the store, there were many photos of TV coverage. Seems like a very popular and famous store. Basically, you can only eat the meat bun there, the rest are frozen for takeout. Meat bun for 300 yen. It's somewhat expensive for a meat bun. But if it's delicious, it's not bad! And people were lining up, lining up. About 20 people in line? And since the owner is running the store alone, it's very slow. Maybe they could hire some part-time help on weekends and holidays... Finally got the meat bun! When I tried it... it's delicious! Just as the store boasts, full of meat juice! I'm hooked on this^ ^ If you come to Dazaifu, you should definitely visit this store!
