Hello, this is Harukichi♪ I found a really good restaurant recently called "Yakiniku-ya. Gen". I was in the mood for some yakiniku that day, so I decided to check out this restaurant, but it was full on a Friday night. While wandering around nearby, I saw the sign for a yakiniku restaurant, so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant has a counter with 6 seats and 2 four-person tables, and it's a cozy little place. The menu includes regular items as well as some specials on a board. The variety of meat may not be the widest, but it seems like they have carefully selected their offerings.
I started with some shredded cabbage as a side dish and ordered the "Namul (bean sprouts) for 300 yen". While munching on these, I waited for my meat at the counter. The first dish I tried was the "Jou Shiotan (premium tongue) for 1,600 yen". It was really good, cooked on a charcoal grill, and even when it's rare, the quality is excellent. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meat. The owner mentioned that they had some really good cuts that day, and it seemed like they picked out the best ones. The "Akami Steak (lean steak) for 1,600 yen" was also recommended to me as their specialty. The thick steak arrived, and it was delicious. The owner suggested having it rare, and it was indeed flavorful even without being fully cooked. It's seasoned with salt and pepper, but you can also try it with their tasty dipping sauce.
I was asked if I liked spicy food, and when I said yes, I was given some sliced green chili peppers as a bonus. Eating them together with the steak added a refreshing spiciness and aroma, making it even more delicious. I also tried the "Maruchou (intestines) for 600 yen", which was also very tasty. It had a sweet fatty flavor to it. Overall, I had a satisfying experience at this restaurant, and I saw more customers coming in, most of whom seemed like regulars. I would definitely consider revisiting soon to try their other cuts and maybe their recommended Chige soup, which is cooked in a small pot. The owner seems like a nice guy, with a surfer vibe (there's a surfboard inside the restaurant) and he runs the place by himself. His friendly smile added to the positive impression I had of the place. I might not be called a nice guy often, but I also like to ride the waves or anything else life throws at me, so I look forward to visiting this place again. See you next time! Harukichi.
