I went to the main store of Tsuruya Hachiman. It was a hot day, so I opted for green tea instead of matcha. I chose hydrangea, fitting for the season. The tea was carefully prepared, and the not-too-sweet red bean paste made it delicious even in the hot weather. The shaved ice also looked tasty, so I'll try it next time.

Uji Milk Kin-to Ice Cream Topping for 1300 yen. The actual dish looks better than the retro food samples or menu photos. It's drizzled with plenty of sweet matcha syrup and condensed milk, making it rich and sweet. It's topped with lots of red bean paste, and the ice cream portion is generous. The ice melts quickly, but if you think of it as a matcha latte, it's not a big deal.

I visited because I heard they serve o-zoni. The atmosphere is very elegant with classy music playing. The o-zoni set is Kanto-style, not Kansai-style white miso, which is a bit disappointing. The individual portion comes with 3 mochi pieces, while the set comes with 2 mochi pieces. With red rice included, the amount of carbohydrates is clearly excessive, and there is no protein aside from the dashimaki tamago. Since there is no meat, the dish lacks volume, so the clientele was mostly elderly people.

Established in March 1863 in Osaka, this traditional Japanese confectionery shop has a rich history. Founded by Imajuu Ichi, who was a successor to the Imajuu family but decided to branch out independently, following the family's traditional methods and ingredients. Originally named "Tsuruya Hachiman" to honor the support received from Hachiman-ya, the shop is now commonly known as "Tsuruya Hachiman". The current owner is the 6th generation, Tomohide Imajuu. Products include: - Ichibu Yokoan (4 pieces): A red-colored sweet bean jelly resembling a sunrise, with a sweet sugar taste. - Yonoume: A blue-colored sweet bean jelly with whole beans, offering a traditional taste. - Kurian: A yellow-colored sweet bean jelly with chestnuts, providing a soft texture and a strong chestnut flavor. - Matcha Yokoan: A green-colored sweet bean jelly with added matcha, offering a fragrant and not overly sweet taste.

Tsuruya Hachiman is an established store founded in 1863 at Komaibashi, and Satsuma Daigonyan is a Japanese-style sweet potato. This wagashi feels quite heavy. It is packed with sweet potato flavor. The collaboration with Daigonyan azuki beans is great. It is said that Daigonyan azuki beans got their name from the fact that they do not split even when boiled, so they won't cause seppuku even if you draw a sword in the palace. Quite an interesting story, isn't it?

I had work in Honmachi that day and decided to walk back to Osaka Station. Along the way, I stumbled upon an old establishment nestled between tall buildings that felt like a time slip. Although it had a modern look, it has been around since the Edo period. I decided to browse their tea snacks and found a dorayaki called "Maizuru." It was made using high-quality beans from Tanba, and the grains stood out. It truly was in a league of its own compared to other dorayaki. I'm glad I had the chance to come across it by chance.

"I realized I had never tried it before," I thought, and this time I purchased a unique confectionery called "Kei-tamago Somen" that is different from castella. 'Tsuruya Hachiman' is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop with a history of over 300 years, including its predecessor. Traditional long-established shops often offer rare confections that cannot be found elsewhere, and the one I purchased this time is "Kei-tamago Somen" from this shop. This confection is a type of Nanban confection that was introduced from Portugal, made by straining egg yolks through a sieve into boiling sugar syrup, forming them into thin strands like noodles, and then cutting them into uniform pieces. The ingredients are only egg yolks and sugar, so you can directly taste the rich flavor and sweetness of the eggs. Although the texture is different, the taste is somewhat similar to castella, another type of Nanban confection. "Kei-tamago Somen" seems to be also available at some traditional shops in Fukuoka and Kyoto, but I believe that this shop in Osaka is probably one of the few places still making it. It is a representative souvenir of Osaka that has been loved across generations in Osaka, so I hope this information will be helpful for those looking for Osaka souvenirs.

I received a traditional Japanese confectionery called "kuzukiri" from a store that has been in business for over 300 years. The store has a cozy dining area in the back. I enjoyed the elegant atmosphere as I savored the kuzukiri. I dipped the kuzukiri in black honey syrup, similar to tsukemen, and brought it to my mouth. The gentle sweetness and the texture of the kuzukiri were delightful. Truly a remarkable experience from this long-standing establishment.

I had a milk ice dessert. The shiratama and azuki beans were delicious, and I felt healed by the generous amount of milk. The store was spacious and the staff was friendly, so I would like to visit again.

I purchased Kashiwa-mochi and Chimaki, both were delicious with a moderate level of sweetness. The Chimaki was made with Yoshino kudzu, which made it different from regular Chimaki!
