In September of the 5th year of Reiwa, the restaurant is open from 11:00 to 16:00, offering "Nurukare Udon" for 900 yen. As the name suggests, it is a delicious curry udon served at just the right temperature, not too hot. This unique dish, popular in the summer, features hot curry with cold noodles, giving it a different taste from the usual curry udon.

I visited "Udon no Maeda Shitennoji Honten" in Tennoji-ku, Osaka City, which is about a 10-minute walk north of JR Osaka Metro Tennoji Station, crossing Ten-Shiba. The restaurant is famous for its "Curry Udon". On the day of my visit, I tried the "Zaru Curry Udon" (1000 yen tax included). The dish consisted of cold curry broth with a slight acidity, served with tempura (pumpkin). The noodles were Osaka-style udon, with a softer texture compared to Sanuki udon. Despite the differences, the udon here was delicious and of high quality. I highly recommend trying this Osaka-style udon. The restaurant's operating hours are 11:00-16:00, with irregular evening hours and no fixed holidays.

I chose the popular curry udon. Since it's summer, I went with the lukewarm curry udon. It's hot curry with cold udon soaked in water. The curry is thick and rich, with plenty of green onions and onions adding a nice touch, and the vegetables are a nice accent that makes the dish enjoyable. Thank you for the meal!

I came to have lunch in Tennoji without thinking about anything. Maybe because of the weather, most places were fairly empty. Meat? Fish? Chinese food? I was undecided, but then I noticed the udon restaurant I had been thinking of going to. So, I entered. I had the Katsu Curry Udon for 1250 yen and a medium bottle of Akahoshi beer for 600 yen. The curry was thick. When you think of curry udon at an udon restaurant, you imagine a light broth as the main flavor, but this curry was thick. And delicious. As I ate, even when I could see the bottom of the bowl, the curry remained thick. Curry udon is supposed to become lighter as you eat due to saliva, but this curry stayed thick until the end. It was delicious, and I got the free extra serving, which I finished quickly. On the way home, I started sweating. It was incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This place seems to be famous for curry udon. However, despite approaching late June with a high temperature of 30 degrees, there was no air conditioning. Normally, there is a line outside before entering the restaurant. I arrived a little late for lunch around 13:30, so I only had to wait a bit to get in. But as soon as I entered, it was hot!!! It was surprisingly stuffy. The inside of the restaurant seemed to have open windows, but there was no air conditioning, only two wall-mounted fans. In the back table seats, there was no breeze. A fan was a must. It was too hot, so I couldn't eat the curry udon and ended up having plum seaweed udon. My husband and child had katsu curry udon and cold curry udon. The plum seaweed udon was delicious with a well-flavored broth. I wonder if they will have the air conditioning on during the peak of summer. I would like to visit again when it's cooler to enjoy the meal more comfortably!

A long-established udon restaurant near Shitennoji Temple. I have an important business meeting coming up, so I ordered the Katsu Curry (tax included 1250 yen) for good luck. The udon is not Sanuki udon, but a softer, more "Osaka-style" udon, which is also delicious. The curry udon, which is a specialty, has a great balance of spices and broth, with a traditional deliciousness. The tonkatsu is thick and satisfying, with a hint of sweetness. The udon comes in a large portion for free, but even the regular size is quite filling.

This is a popular casual udon restaurant. If they run out of broth, they close. I went on a weekday at 11:30 and got a seat right away. I ordered the curry udon set! The owner brought me a curry apron. The bowl had lots of green onions and meat! The udon was chewy! The curry udon was excellent as rumored. And all the menu items are cheap. They also have cold curry udon in the summer! It's located on the north side of Tennoji Park, west of Shitennoji Temple, and within walking distance from Tennoji Station. I will definitely go back!

I stopped by after visiting Isshin-ji temple. I was feeling a bit under the weather with a sore stomach, so I gave up on curry udon and opted for beef udon instead. It had a light broth with plenty of beef, seaweed, and grated ginger. The meat was tender and the flavor was light, unlike Marugame and others. The generous amount of grated ginger and not too sweet broth felt gentle on my stomach and was very delicious. The noodles felt a bit too much, but I would definitely want to come back for this tasty dish.

As I got closer to the shop, the delicious smell of dashi wafted through the air, so I decided to order curry udon. The udon was Osaka-style, a bit softer than Sanuki udon. The curry coated the noodles, making them slurp-worthy, and the spiciness gradually spread as I ate. I could also taste the dashi as I finished the meal. In terms of cost performance, it felt a bit on the pricey side.

Taste: ○ Cleanliness: △
Nostalgic revisit series of a restaurant I used to frequent in my 20s when I returned to Osaka.
It's been 30 years so I don't remember the taste, but I used to go there late at night after drinking in Minami.
Arriving around 7:00 PM during Obon season, I opened the old sliding door to find the place unchanged.
There was one person at the counter and a group of three at a table, with what seemed to be the manager running the place alone.
Now, what should I order? I decided on the "Mochi Curry Udon" for 1100 yen.
After a 5-minute wait, the dish arrived. It looked like Mochi Curry Udon, but lacked attention to detail. The tray had noticeable stains on it.
But how was the taste? The curry was thick, and the noodles were soft, almost breaking when pulled.
The balance between the thickness of the broth, the texture of the noodles, and the firmness of the noodles was a bit off for me.
The curry itself was spicy and delicious, and the portion size was huge (apparently, you can get a free upsize).
The mochi was delicious, with a nice firmness on the outside and a chewy inside that paired well with the curry.
Despite the challenging times due to the pandemic, I think there are things that could be improved, such as the cleanliness of the chopstick box, tables, and overall store.
I hope they can continue to stay in business, so I write this with that wish in mind. I will definitely come back with expectations.

I visited this restaurant "Udon no Maeda Shitennoji Honten" for lunch. It is a popular spot for curry udon on the way from Tennoji Station to Shitennoji Temple. I arrived just in time before lunch hours ended and ordered the lunch set "Curry Set for 1,000 yen". The set includes curry udon for 900 yen, along with white rice, pickles, and a small side dish. I opted for the large serving, which was quite a generous portion. The curry udon arrived in a bowl filled to the brim with curry, making it quite a challenge to eat due to its piping hot temperature. Despite the effort, I enjoyed it until the last bite! Thank you for the meal!

I always passed by this shop but never had the chance to go in (either because I was already full or the timing didn't work out). I had curry rice for lunch, but curry udon is a whole different thing! I finally visited and enjoyed the perfect amount of spiciness. The udon had a nice thickness and was delicious. I was tempted to order the free extra-large portion because I was so hungry, but I'm glad I stuck with the regular size - it was quite filling! They even asked if I needed an apron, which was a nice touch. Thank you for the meal!

At home, I think most people use commercially available curry roux as a base to make curry. What kind of curry do you use in your household? When I lived alone, I tried various kinds and eventually settled on Glico's 2-stage matured curry. It was a close call with House's Kokumaro curry coming in second place. It's been about 12 years since I first tried it and the taste still lingers in my memory. Recently, I had a craving to try it again and went to the restaurant. I ordered the Curry Udon, which was not available in many other places. The portion was large and came with two pieces of crispy rice cakes. The udon was thick and had a distinct square shape, giving it a satisfying weight. The curry was reminiscent of the type you would find in Kagawa Prefecture, where the broth doesn't mix with the curry. It had a homemade curry flavor, but I realized I had forgotten the taste of 2-stage matured curry. Despite that, I still enjoyed the Curry Udon at this restaurant. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Additionally, the night before, I had eaten a very spicy soup curry, and this was my third meal of the day, so my stomach was already full. I underestimated the two pieces of crispy rice cakes and the large portion of curry. I thought I could handle it since udon and curry are like drinks, but I was wrong. The crispy rice cakes filled me up quickly, and my stomach was already feeling the strain. I struggled to finish the large portion of udon, as leaving food uneaten is unacceptable to me. I managed to finish the udon, but I couldn't drink all the curry at the end. After a night of drinking in the bustling streets of Takamatsu, ending the night with a Curry Udon with crispy rice cakes was quite an experience. Amazing!

On Monday, I couldn't quite get into the groove at home, so I decided to take a short train ride and got off at Tennoji. I headed to a restaurant that was not crowded and was seated right away at 12:45. I ordered the Tempura Curry Udon in a large size for 1150 yen. After a short wait, my dish arrived with two shrimp tempura on top. I started by mixing the udon from the bottom. This curry udon seemed to lack broth, but the curry consistency remained the same. It was also spicy, making me sweat. The udon noodles had a good chewiness to them. I left feeling full and satisfied. I'm glad I didn't order extra rice with my meal, as I might not have been able to finish it all. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Thank you for the delicious udon!

I am "Noronori" who mainly walks around eating lunch, mainly in Sakai. The original source is https://ameblo.jp/norinoribenben20072000/entry-12717524907.html. It was already past the lunch peak time, but the inside of the restaurant was packed with customers. It seems to be a very busy restaurant. The counter seats felt crowded too. Since the menu proudly listed the most popular curry udon, and many customers were actually eating it, I decided to order the curry udon without hesitation. The chewy noodles and delicious curry udon were great, but I was also impressed by the lady managing the whole place by herself. Well done! Thank you for the meal.

Today's lunch was at my mother's one-year memorial service. After paying my respects, I stopped by an old udon restaurant. They had a wide variety of set meals, making it hard to choose. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by the aroma of curry. Although I was tempted by the curry udon, I decided to go with the special set menu: Tempura rice bowl and udon for 800 yen. The tempura was delicious, with a crispy shrimp topping. The udon had a light broth, but the saltiness was a bit strong. The udon was soft and chewy, similar to Osaka-style udon. I'm curious about their curry udon next time. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. Today, I was working near Shitennoji Yuhigaoka Station on a Sunday. While wandering around, I noticed long lines outside the soba restaurant "Hayautchi" and the curry restaurant "Niji no Hotoke" despite the scorching heat. People really want to eat delicious food even in extreme summer conditions. Well, I felt like having some casual udon for lunch, so I ended up at "Udon no Maeda Shitennoji Honten" shop. The traditional udon shop exterior with four lanterns labeled "Udon no Maeda" looked appealing. It was around noon on Sunday, and the shop was about half full with a cozy old-fashioned atmosphere. On a hot summer day, I felt like having curry udon at least once. I wanted to sweat out my worries along with the curry udon. So, I ordered the curry udon for 880 yen. The curry broth was rich and mildly sweet, having been simmered for two nights. The udon was chewy, and it paired well with the curry. The high viscosity of the curry broth made it less likely to splatter, making it easy to eat. However, the high viscosity also made it a bit difficult to slurp the udon smoothly, which slightly reduced the enjoyment of eating udon. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it while sweating profusely. Overall, I had a satisfying experience with the curry udon, and I also noticed another menu item, the "Zaru Curry Udon" for 900 yen, which seemed promising. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy curry udon on a hot summer day. Now, I'll brace myself for the afternoon work ahead.

Isshin-ji Temple - Eternal Memorial Service
On the anniversary of my father's passing, my wife, relatives, and I visited Isshin-ji Temple for a memorial service. Afterwards, we decided to have lunch at a nearby udon restaurant.
We stumbled upon "Udon no Maeda Shitenno-ji Honten" on our way back. It was our first time visiting this traditional udon restaurant. We ordered the recommended lunch set which included curry udon, steamed rice, cold tofu, and pickles for 950 yen.
The portion of udon was huge, almost like a double serving! The curry udon had a flavorful broth, typical of a traditional udon restaurant. It wasn't very spicy, so I added some shichimi spice for extra kick. The cold tofu was refreshing, and the steamed rice had a few bits of meat, green onions, and other ingredients mixed in.
After finishing the udon, I mixed the remaining curry broth with the steamed rice and enjoyed it thoroughly. Overall, the meal was delicious and satisfying.

I went to a udon restaurant rumored to be delicious. The atmosphere was like a traditional udon shop, and the friendly owner greeted me warmly. I ordered the kitsune udon, which looked delicious with the fried tofu on top. I later found out that their curry udon is famous. I would love to try it next time. The udon was thick and chewy, and the flavorful fried tofu soaked up the broth well. I enjoyed the kitsune udon very much.
