Business trips are tough, haha. I planned to visit for the event in May, but unexpectedly it rained, so it's been a while since my last visit. I relied on this place and skipped lunch, limiting my water intake, and snacking on some snacks. Unfortunately, the 60-minute all-you-can-drink option was no longer available, which was a bummer. I used a coupon for two draft beers and a small dish, but the "small" dish was the same size as the two beers. Since the accommodation prices in this area are high on Saturdays, I stayed a bit further away this time. I also ordered some sake, but ended up adding a bottle of beer as well. The skewers were delicious and I had plenty of them. I accidentally poured soy sauce on them, but it was still good - normally I use sauce for cutlets and soy sauce for fried foods. I hope they bring back the all-you-can-drink option soon.

Today in Osaka, the heat was unusually intense. While I was out sightseeing, I started feeling like I might be getting heatstroke, so I started feeling unwell. I decided to take a break and find some coolness, so I came to Yamatoya. I had 5 pieces of kushikatsu and 3 highballs, and it only cost 3030 yen for two people. It was a cheap and delicious restaurant. I definitely want to come back here when I visit Osaka again.

It is located off the main street of Tsutenkaku. The restaurant is not very spacious, but it has counter seats and table seats. I had a craving for softshell turtle after a long time, and I received an invitation to go to Shinsekai. It seems that you have to make a reservation to eat during the corona pandemic, but we were able to swim in. The blood was mixed with red wine, making it easy to drink. We enjoyed sushi as a snack, and had sashimi with eggs this time. It's good to eat a round hot pot when you're tired. The broth is delicious, so we finished with porridge. I'm satisfied. It's nice to have a free drink when you order two beers.

At Yamato-ya Izakaya main store next to Yamato-ya Sushi main store, you can also enjoy the menu from the sushi store. The small window inside the restaurant allows the food to come and go, which was very entertaining with the bell ringing each time. Yamato-ya is a place I visit occasionally, but this time I ended up at the sushi main store on the left side, which I rarely go to. I only had 40 minutes, so I ended up ordering a bottle of barley shochu White Water for 1980 yen, even though it was a bit much. On a Friday night in mid-February, the whole place in Shinsekai was quiet with few people, including the restaurant. Even when it's crowded, this place is not too noisy for an izakaya, and there are plenty of counter seats, making it easy for solo drinkers to come in. When I ordered my second draft beer, the server always informs me that the third one is free. I only ever have three drinks, so this deal really helps me out. Despite the prices going up, skewers start at 80 yen each, and even with three draft beers and nine skewers, I can get change back from 2,000 yen, which is great. When I ordered the kushikatsu at the first store, it was very small, but at the main store, the size was the same and the price was still cheap, so it seems like the size may vary depending on the store. The third place I went to was Yamatoya Honten, located in Shinsekai. This restaurant has both sushi and izakaya sections, and I decided to sit at the counter in the izakaya area. Looking at the drink menu, I noticed they had a special offer where if you order two medium draft beers, you get one for free, and if you order two servings of sake, you get one for free. It's a great deal for those who enjoy drinking. I ordered a highball, where they serve whiskey in a glass and you can add soda water to your preferred taste. If there is soda water left after the second drink, you can order just whiskey for a discount of 100 yen. The food menu had a variety of options, including daily recommendations and popular dishes, with a wide selection of kushikatsu as well. They also offered a special menu where you could get a complimentary 3-piece nigiri set for every three dishes you order. I started with a sashimi platter of five varieties, followed by some potato fries. I then ordered a mixed kushikatsu set of five skewers, which included shrimp, beef, eggplant, wiener sausage, and onion. The freshly fried kushikatsu was delicious, especially with the side of raw cabbage. We also enjoyed some double servings of sake, with a complimentary single serving at the end. To finish off the meal, we ordered some nigiri sushi, including two pieces of vinegared mackerel and three pieces of sardine. The sushi was affordable and satisfying. Overall, the menu was extensive, the drink promotions were great, and the service was enjoyable. I look forward to returning with a bigger appetite to try more dishes next time.

Recently, even New World is bustling with tourists and it's hard to get into the restaurants you want to go to. But I decided to go to Yamatoya, a place I've been familiar with for a long time! For some reason, the main store is the easiest to get into. You can see the counter from the entrance, so you can tell how crowded it is, which is nice. Personally, I don't like crowded places. This place is just moderately busy before lunch, so I can enter without hesitation. I feel awkward going alone when it's full. Today, it's a parade of kushikatsu! I had 14 skewers, tarako (cod roe) with ponzu sauce, and two draft beers, with a complimentary small draft beer, all for just a little over 3,000 yen. It's cheap and good! If you drink two draft beers, you get a small draft beer for free. This service has been around for as long as I've known Yamatoya, which is over 15 years. Thank you for the meal. On Friday night in the new world, famous restaurants have been getting crowded lately, so I decided to have a solo drink at Yamatoya, which has a good capacity. I ordered a draft beer, potato salad from the shelf, a sashimi platter with 3 types of fish, and Ikadama. The sashimi was okay, but I think ordering individual pieces of flatfish and sea bream would have been better. The potato salad was standard. The Ikadama arrived quickly, and the tangy flavor of mayonnaise went well with the alcohol. I also added a Shiso gin and soda, and ordered some fried chicken. The fried chicken was a bit disappointing, as the meat seemed subpar. I had a refill of gin and soda, and ordered sushi and rolls from the sushi restaurant next door to finish off the night. Yamatoya is a nice place to relax.

I usually go to this restaurant on my way back from the Toka Ebisu festival, but this time I visited early. They offer a free drink after you have had two. It's a great place to enjoy sushi and kushikatsu while drinking affordably. However, here I am eating turtle. I had turtle blood wine, sashimi, and turtle hot pot. My skin feels so smooth, haha.

The surrounding restaurants have become cheaper, so the feeling of getting a good deal is no longer there. The kushikatsu starts from 60 yen and has a traditional taste that is delicious. However, it is not a good place for those who care about customer service. The staff throw empty bottles into the trash bin at the back of the counter, making a loud noise of bottles hitting each other. There is no consideration for this! The sushi restaurant next to Yamatoya allows you to order sushi and sashimi, so you can enjoy the same menu at both places. In October of the 4th year of Reiwa, during weekday lunchtime (11:00-15:00), the nigiri set meal for 550 yen includes 8 pieces of nigiri sushi and a set of red miso soup for just one coin plus tax. With this quality, there is nothing to complain about. It is a satisfying and delicious nigiri lunch.

After enjoying kushikatsu at Hanamichi-san, I strolled around Tsutenkaku and then visited "Yamato-ya Honten" for the first time (I had been to the neighboring Yamato-ya Sushi Honten before).
