Here "KATARU" is a restaurant that specializes in dishes made using products from Saiki City in Oita Prefecture. It also serves as an antenna shop for Saiki City. It is also a sister store of the nearby deli "Tokusuke". The restaurant can be used as a casual dining place or for drinking alcohol. The service from the two female staff members is very good. The set meal menu mainly features seafood from Bungo Suido, including dishes like "Ryukyu set meal", "KATARU set meal", "Salted mackerel half set meal", "Horse mackerel simmered in miso set meal", "Grilled salted yellowtail collar set meal", "Simmered yellowtail collar set meal", "Red sea bream set meal", "Fried horse mackerel set meal", "Fried mackerel set meal", "Fried chicken with Saiki salt koji set meal", and "Kama City specialty fried yellowtail cutlet set meal", among others, with over 10 options available. All of them are appealing, but this time I chose the "Kama City specialty fried yellowtail cutlet set meal" (800 yen). I love yellowtail, but I had never tried yellowtail cutlet before, so I decided to give it a try. The yellowtail cutlet is crispy and fragrant, with a crunchy texture that is delightful. The yellowtail is cooked just right, with a smooth texture that is not dry, and it has a firm bite and rich juiciness. The best way to enjoy the yellowtail cutlet is to eat it as it is, but it also tastes good with the tartar sauce and Worcestershire sauce provided. The portion of the yellowtail cutlet itself is satisfying. Rice refills are available. The side vegetables, small dishes, and soup also add to the fulfilling meal. I also added a single order of "Ryukyu" (600 yen). It is a local dish from Oita Prefecture, consisting of slices of raw fish marinated in soy sauce, sake, and mirin. The Ryukyu on this day was yellowtail. I enjoyed it by placing it on the rice of the "Kama City specialty fried yellowtail cutlet set meal" to create a kind of "Ryukyu bowl". This would also be good as ochazuke. In addition to Ryukyu, it is also possible to order the main dishes of various set meals separately, making it a good option for drinking alcohol. I paid with PayPay. The Tangjin-cho shopping street where "KATARU" is located is a historic shopping street that faces the Karatsu Kaido, and in the Edo period, it was the site of the clan's western academy, Kantokan. However, it is not currently very lively. In this shopping street, there has been a shop called "Mandy" which is an antenna shop from the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture. It is a unique presence in this small shopping street away from the bustling area. Recently, the antenna shop for Saiki City in Oita Prefecture, "KATARU," has been added here. I imagined that if more unique antenna shops and local cuisine restaurants like this were gathered in such small, focused areas, the small shopping street would become quite distinctive and interesting. I hope that "KATARU," which opened as a second store, will continue to thrive and become a catalyst for the next one.
