Located in the Daimyo 1-chome area of Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, this restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station and a 7-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the subway. This is the first store of the "Matsusuke" brand, opened in 2005! In 2008, the second store "Kushiyaki Hakata Matsusuke" opened in Haruyoshi, followed by "Hakata Matsusuke Nishinakasu" in 2012, "Kushi to Mizutaki Hakata Matsusuke" in 2014 (inside Canal City Hakata Grand Building), and "Urano Matsusuke" in Nishinakasu in 2016. In 2019, "Hakata Matsusuke Ebisu Store" opened in Ebisu, Tokyo, and in 2020, "Hakata Matsusuke Kanda Store" opened. The group is expanding rapidly with a total of over 30 stores including "Hakata Hotaru", "Yakiniku restaurants", and "Ramen shops" under the company "OBU Company". The landmark of this "Daimyo Main Store" is a large "ま" sign along the street, hidden in the back of a building with several shops! The interior has counter seats, table seats, and sunken kotatsu seats, and it was bustling with many customers, coinciding with the lifting of the coronavirus state of emergency. We tried the popular "Special Kushiyaki Set" here - starting with the top favorite "Special Minced Chicken", followed by "Hakata Torotama", "Sasami Shigi Yaki", "Mozzarella Tomato Roll", "Shirako", and "Kashiwa". The "Matsusuke Special Minced Chicken" is minced with cartilage added to chicken thigh meat, grilled with only rock salt, resulting in a very juicy and delicious finish! It is truly an addictive dish once you try it. Next, the popular dish with a half-cooked egg yolk overflowing, "Hakata Torotama", is made by wrapping a half-cooked egg with pork belly and grilling it with a sweet and savory sauce - the overflowing creamy yolk is delicious with each bite. The "Mozzarella Tomato Roll", likely a favorite among women, has a large "tomato" compared to other stores! It is wrapped tightly with pork belly and offers an Italian flavor with basil sauce. The "Shirako" seems to be popular among drinkers - the freshness of the liver is good, grilled to perfection with a rare feel, and it goes exceptionally well with the sweet sauce. The "Kashiwa", "Sasami Shigi Yaki", and additional items like "Pork Belly", "Chicken Wing", "Chicken Tail", "Chicken Soft Bone", etc., were all delicious. We also tried the special "Mackerel Cutlet" a la carte, but unfortunately, it was not as good as expected - the dipping sauce didn't quite match! It may be a matter of preference, but blending Worcestershire sauce or a more sharp sauce might be better! If the mackerel is fresh, it is best enjoyed freshly fried with tartar sauce, I think... For the finale, we had the "Kashiwa Onigiri". Well, all of them were of high quality! Indeed, "Matsusuke" is one of the top yakitori izakaya restaurants in Fukuoka - thank you for the feast.
