First visit. I wanted to try wild boar and duck, so I visited this place. Bringing your own drinks is allowed. It seems you can also bring in sweets or other foods. I enjoyed the wild boar BBQ from start to finish without getting tired of it. I prefer it with a little fat. It was delicious. I never expected to find liver here. It was surprisingly free of any unpleasant smell. It was my first time trying pheasant. It had a nice texture. The duck also tasted great with its fat. BBQ goes best with beer. The simplicity allows the quality of the ingredients to shine through. The owner's personality is fantastic. The conversation flows easily with three men. The owner, being a hunter, had the most exciting stories to share. The wild boar, carrot, and burdock rice at the end was delicious. It had a generous amount of wild boar. I'm grateful for that. I will visit again. Next time, I'll make sure to request a few bottles of beer when making a reservation by phone. I want to drink some chilled ones.

I was able to enjoy a hearty meal of wild boar meat at a traditional hunter's restaurant. It's by reservation only, so make sure to book in advance. If you want to taste delicious wild boar meat, this is a highly recommended place. It's located near the foot of Mount Abura, but the location can be a bit tricky to find so be careful. You can drive there and arrange for a designated driver to take you back home, so you can relax. You can bring your own alcoholic beverages. If you bring some for the owner as well, it'll surely liven up the party with interesting conversations. The food is delicious and the conversations are entertaining. Wild boar meat is best when grilled, the fat is rich in collagen, so let's enjoy it to the fullest!

I finally visited the restaurant that I was interested in after seeing the reviews on Tabelog!! If I were to describe my experience in one word, it would be "truly fascinating, so please give it a try". I made a reservation two weeks in advance, as I heard that they only accept one group per day. When I called to make the reservation, the owner recommended the yakiniku course over the hot pot course, saying that yakiniku allows you to taste the meat better. It was my first time visiting, and the owner warmly welcomed me, explaining that the restaurant is like a shabby hut that could blow away in the wind. The restaurant is located at the foot of the famous "Yunohana Observatory" in Fukuoka, about a 30-minute drive from Hakata/Tenjin. They serve natural game meat hunted by the owner himself. The seating area was cozy, and I was served a delicious course of wild boar yakiniku. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the vegetables were also delicious. The owner's charm and passion for his food made the dining experience even more enjoyable. I also tried the venison carpaccio, which was surprisingly tasty with no gamey taste. The meal ended with a delightful surprise of grilled onigiri and duck broth soup. The owner's friendly and engaging conversation added to the overall wonderful experience.

Fukuoka also has a restaurant that serves exquisite Japanese-style wild game. The owner personally hunts the game (mainly boar) and quickly removes the blood, resulting in a boar with a clear, transparent appearance and no gamey smell. We ordered both grilled and hot pot dishes. The appetizer was boar tataki carpaccio, which was delicious and raised our expectations. The grilled dish was cooked on a special iron plate. The boar's pure white fat was used to cook the meat, which we grilled ourselves. The aroma and sweetness of the fat were wonderful, and the meat was incredibly tender and delicious. The vegetables cooked in boar fat were also excellent. The hot pot had a clear, refreshing soup that was also very tasty. We finished with a rice porridge. We went with four people and ordered three servings of grilled and hot pot dishes each, which came out to only 6000 yen per person, which is cheap. With five servings of grilled, we might have finished it all easily (laughs). Thank you for the meal.

My parents, siblings, and others visited the restaurant in a group of 10. We had made a reservation after researching and reading various online reviews. The owner told us over the phone, "I'm not good at cooking rice, so please bring onigiri or rice." He also mentioned, "Bring your favorite drinks too." So, we bought our favorite drinks and made onigiri for everyone. The restaurant is located at the foot of Mount Abura. We were allowed to park our cars in front of the restaurant. When we entered, the tables and tatami mats were already set with meat, vegetables, cups, and more for everyone. The walls were decorated with boar leather, deer bones, antlers, traps, rifles, and more. The owner showed us magazines and albums featuring the restaurant. We started the meal with carpaccio made from female wild boar meat caught recently in Itoshima. It was sweet, tender, and delicious. Then we had yakiniku. The meat was cooked rare and was incredibly tender and tasty. It didn't have a strong pork flavor, was not greasy, and was seasoned perfectly. The owner was very entertaining and had been drinking before our arrival, creating a fun atmosphere. He shared stories about hunting with dogs like the Yakushima dog and Kishu dog, as well as rifle stories. It was a delightful and enjoyable experience, and we were glad we visited this restaurant.

Finally, it's time to introduce "Aburayama Ryōshi Koya" (Aburayama Hunter's Hut). This is a restaurant that I have a personal connection with. The owner here personally hunts game such as wild boar (inoshishi) in Itoshima and serves it. The restaurant is located on the way to Aburayama, as the name suggests. From the outside, it looks like it could be in the middle of a forest, but it's actually in a residential area. The unique atmosphere is definitely worth a visit. While it may be a bit hard to find, once you pass by, you will definitely notice it. Since there is no parking lot, we parked in front of the restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly owner. Despite being a "hunter," I had expected a big, hearty person, but he was actually a very talkative and friendly old man. Reservations are limited to one group per day, and there is a small raised table that can accommodate about four people. Now, onto the main event - the wild boar yakiniku course. We started with wild boar carpaccio. The freshness of the meat, which can be eaten almost raw without any gamey taste, was surprising. Then, we grilled the fresh, red wild boar meat. It was delicious, especially with just salt and pepper. The grilled vegetables, soaked in wild boar oil, were also delicious. We were also served bone-in meat simmered in a light broth and a type of bird called "hiyodori," which only eats oranges harvested on that day. This may vary depending on the day's harvest. After filling our stomachs, we found ourselves in a lively banquet mode with the owner. He was very cheerful and shared stories with us, giving advice to us newcomers without being intrusive. It was a wonderful time. Just a note, you need to bring your own drinks, and if you want rice, you'll need to bring that too. The owner will provide glasses. Even for someone who has tried wild boar meat before, the lack of gamey taste and the deliciousness of the meat here was a first. I had many new experiences here, and I hope more people get to know about this place, even though I also want to keep it somewhat hidden. I will definitely visit again. Harukichi. Fukuoka Gourmet Selection.

This is a shop where you can find things like this in Fukuoka! Limited to one group per day (reservation required)! A hunter personally hunts game (wild boar, deer, duck, pheasant) and cooks it for you to enjoy! Located in a hunter's handmade hunter's hut style house. The location is on the mountainside of Higashi Aburayama in Jyonan-ku, Fukuoka City. It's in a residential area, but the entrance and exterior are understated, so our group actually passed by it once. You can park your car in front of the shop (limited to 1-2 cars). Inside the shop, it has the look of an old folk house or folk art style. The owner is behind the counter. Despite being a hunter, he is not the silent, rough hunter type, but rather a talkative and humorous old man. Firewood is stacked under the counter. As a traveler, it feels like taking a break in a hunter's hut. There are table seats around the Daruma stove. In winter, it would be nice to gather around and enjoy some drinks together. The interior is decorated with typical hunter's hut items like wild boar fur rugs, deer skulls, and traps (no longer used due to hunting with guns only). We chose the grilled meat course for wild boar from the various boar dishes, priced at 4,000 yen. There are also options for hot pot courses and sukiyaki courses. In addition to wild boar, they also offer duck hot pot, deer steak, and snapping turtle hot pot courses. It truly is a specialty game cuisine restaurant in Fukuoka. They also have various a la carte dishes available (reservation required). We toasted with the hunter owner and started with the wild boar leg meat steamed in a rabbit-style sauce. Then, we started grilling the wild boar meat! It looked like a peony pot, beautifully arranged. Oh, but it's quite fatty... As I've aged, I've started to prefer lean meat over fatty meat, and suddenly I was faced with a meat cut with quite a bit of fat! Well, let's just grill it on the iron plate! I was wearing short sleeves at the time, so the oil splattered and it was hot on my arm. It's best to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and with long sleeves. Let's try it... Bite! Chewy texture! Juicy fatty meat! Delicious!! Unlike the freshly hunted wild boar I had in the countryside long ago, or the uniquely fragrant Iberico pork, this wild boar meat had no distinct taste in both lean and fatty parts, with a light flavor yet juicy. It had a transparent appearance, with a sweet and savory fat that was very delicious, and I probably ate the most meat among our group. I happily became the "disposer" for the remaining meat, saying "Are you not going to eat this? I'll eat it then." The meat was served with sauce and salt, but just a little salt was enough to bring out the delicious flavor. I think it would be a waste to cook this meat in a hot pot. However, I definitely want to try the peony pot or duck hot pot in winter. Initially visited as a hidden gem, but now it's a definite repeat visit! Midway through the grilled meat, they served spare ribs (short ribs). That's what they call spare ribs, right? I would like to try the peony pot or duck hot pot in winter. Initially visited as a hidden gem, but now it's a definite repeat visit!

The Oil Mountain Hunter's Hut, featured in the book "Meat Basics," is a hidden gem where you can enjoy wild meats such as wild boar, pheasant, deer, and duck that the owner himself hunts and prepares. With the slogan of "one group per day" and the keyword of wild meat, I was drawn to this place and did a lot of research online after reading about it in the book. The thought of indulging in wild boar meat yakiniku and hot pot made my mouth water, and I couldn't wait to visit. When I found out that you can bring your own drinks, I was even more excited. The venison sashimi, wild boar yakiniku, and other dishes are all delicious accompaniments to drinks. The friendly owner also made a good impression on me!
