Located on the first floor of a building opposite Kyushu University Hospital along the Chiyoda, formerly known as the "Karatsu Kaido" in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, this udon restaurant is run by the head chef who trained at the popular udon restaurant "Daimaru Udon" in Tamura, Sawara-ku, and learned the art of making udon at the renowned "Tempura Udon" in Imakawa, Chuo-ku. Since its establishment in 2013, the restaurant has been bustling with energy, serving a delicious broth made from kelp as a base and homemade noodles that strike a perfect balance between smoothness and firmness. Just like at "Tempura Udon," their signature dish is the "Tempura Udon," and they offer free extra-large portions of udon and all-you-can-eat homemade kimchi at a low price, making it a popular spot among locals, university staff, and government employees in the area. Popular menu items include the classic "Gobo Tempura Udon" and "Niku Udon," as well as the "Yasai Tempura Udon" and the unique "Renkon Tempura Udon." The recommended dish from the chef is the "Niku Gobo Udon." Additionally, starting at 1:00 PM after the lunch rush, they offer set meals ranging from 500 to 700 yen, which include udon and rice along with main dishes like tonkatsu, ginger pork, fried horse mackerel, fried chicken, croquettes, and white fish fry, all of which are delicious, affordable, and generous in portion size. Despite being an udon restaurant, customers can also switch the noodles to soba for the same price, with an additional 50 yen charge for extra-large portions of soba.

This time, I went for lunch again. Instead of the usual hot udon, I tried the "cold udon" this time. This restaurant offers a free extra-large serving, which is a great service. I ordered the cold udon with vegetable tempura (extra-large) for only 500 yen! I used to avoid cold udon due to a past bad experience, but the broth here is incredibly delicious. The extra-large portion of noodles was also cold and refreshing. The texture was great. No complaints. For just one coin, the volume and quality of this meal are amazing! It looks like this will become a regular stop for me. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come back!

It was delicious!! The bright and energetic older lady is in charge. The storefront is a bit old-fashioned and hard to enter. But the broth is sweet and gentle. It's a good place to bring children, even outside of peak hours! The Niku Gobo Udon for 750 yen with free extra noodles and free kimchi made me happy. Thank you.

I visited during lunchtime. There is always a line, making it hard to get in, but I persevered in the heat. The restaurant has 4 counter seats, 3 tables for 4 people, and 1 tatami area for 4 people, so it's quite spacious. You can change all the warm udon and soba to bukkake style. I started with the default warm udon. I sat at the counter and ordered the large portion of meat and burdock udon. By the way, the large portion is free. It arrived in about 3 minutes after ordering. Fast! The soup seemed to be made with kombu dashi as the main flavor. It had a very gentle taste. The burdock tempura and meat toppings were plentiful. I understood why people wait in line to eat here. It was delicious. I will come again!

In the area near Maide Hospital with nine major hospitals, there are charming Chinese restaurants lined up, but today I was in the mood for udon, so I decided to visit "Udon Hide" near Chiyoda Prefectural Government Office, one station back. It is located on a main street that serves as a bus route, on the first floor of an apartment building, with its entrance on the side street called "Kyudai Street". The bright yellow sign with black letters stands out, and it advertises "Free extra large serving of udon, all-you-can-eat kimchi", which caught my attention. I was a bit worried if they were open, but when I opened the door, a cheerful woman in cargo pants welcomed me with a lively voice. I chose the vegetable tempura udon from the menu, which included options like tempura udon, meat udon, and burdock tempura udon. I also decided to add the rare topping of lotus root tempura. The large vegetable tempura seemed to be pre-fried, but the lotus root was freshly fried, so I was very satisfied with its hot, crispy texture. The udon noodles were cooked soft and served with a flavorful broth, making the meal delicious.

For lunch today, I went to Udon Hide near Kyushu University Hospital. I arrived just at opening time, with one customer already there. This place offers free extra large portions for udon (soba is an additional 50 yen for extra large). I ordered the meat udon for 650 yen. I topped it with their complimentary homemade kimchi, which added a nice sweet and spicy flavor to the already sweet meat udon broth. It was delicious! The noodles were not the soft type of Hakata udon, but rather had a good chewiness to them. The addition of ground sesame seeds was a nice touch. Thank you for the meal!

Located near Kyushu University Hospital, this Fukuoka udon shop is popular for its business lunch. If you go before 12 o'clock, you may have to wait a bit to get in, but after 12 o'clock, the line just keeps getting longer. I also noticed that the cafes and restaurants at Kyushu University Hospital and Royce Hall were all full, indicating that there aren't enough dining options for the number of people in the area. I ordered the lotus root udon for 600 yen. The small dishes lined up on the counter include authentic Korean kimchi with a tangy flavor, which is all-you-can-eat. The udon broth has a gentle taste, making it easy to enjoy with the slightly sweet kelp-based broth and chewy, soft noodles. The low price is probably another reason why it's popular for business lunches.

I went to Hide-chan Udon. I ordered the unusual lotus root udon with additional meat. I also ordered the kashiwa rice. The udon broth had a strong bonito flavor and was delicious. The lotus root was crispy and tasty.

I went to "Udon Hide" located right near Kyushu University Hospital in Fukuoka ( ◜‿◝ )♡ This is a shop that offers large servings. I tried the unusual lotus root udon (550 yen) (ʘ‿ʘ). The udon here has a thick and chewy noodle with a rich broth, which was very delicious (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧ The deep-fried lotus root was fluffy and had a good texture, allowing me to enjoy the taste of lotus root ( ◜‿◝ )♡. Kimchi is all-you-can-eat for free, so adding it to the broth for a different flavor was also very delicious (。♡‿♡。). Next time, I want to try the meat udon and add lots of kimchi (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。

For lunch today, I was in the mood for udon due to my stomach feeling a bit off. I found this place while looking at my saved locations on Tabelog and decided to give it a try based on the reviews by Mairebi-san. There were mentions of potential lines depending on the time, so I arrived early around 11:40 am. The place was almost full, but luckily there was one seat available at the counter. The restaurant was small with counter seating, tables, and tatami seating. I ordered the beef udon (600 yen) with lotus root tempura (200 yen), which I had decided on in advance. Although udon comes with a free large size option, I opted for regular this time. The energetic female staff efficiently took orders while the owner cooked. They informed me that the lotus root tempura would take a bit of time. I didn't mind waiting as I preferred it freshly fried. The udon arrived within 10 minutes. The large lotus root tempura stood out, and the beef looked delicious. I started with the udon, which had a soft texture typical of Hakata udon. It was soothing to the stomach and had a comforting taste. The golden-colored broth was flavorful with a slightly sweet dashi taste, and the umami of the kelp was prominent. I really liked the flavor. Next, I tried the toppings. The freshly fried lotus root tempura was amazing with its crispy and crunchy texture. The batter turned from crispy to chewy as it absorbed the broth, which was also enjoyable. Lotus root tempura is a must-try. The thinly sliced beef was tender with a slightly sweet seasoning that complemented the dashi and beef umami, enhancing the broth even more. There was self-service kimchi available, which was very spicy. It could be added to the udon towards the end or served as a side dish with rice. The woman next to me had two servings, which made sense. By the time I left, the line had grown rapidly, causing a wait. It was understandable why this udon shop was beloved by the locals. Thank you for the meal!

"Kelp and tempura udon for 450 yen (with free large size option) and a white rice ball for 100 yen. The slightly thin noodles in a gentle bonito broth soup can be enjoyed until the last bite without getting tired. The taste is not exceptional, but the cost performance is great with free large size option and unlimited kimchi."

The curry and craft beer were starting to take a toll on my stomach, so I decided to come here to enjoy some gentle Fukuoka udon. The thinly sliced burdock tempura soaked up the broth nicely. The udon was soft and easy on the stomach. It would be nice to have a place like this where you can enjoy this kind of udon in the local area.

I had assumed that the restaurant 'Udon Hide' did not have any parking spaces, but one day as I was passing by on Prefectural Route 21, I noticed that there was actually space to park in front of the restaurant. I quickly made a U-turn and managed to park my car. I entered the restaurant and found it almost full, with the staff asking me to wait outside. The energetic lady working there assured me that it was okay to park in front of the restaurant. The place was busy, possibly due to its location near Kyushu University Medical Campus and Fukuoka Prefectural Office. The menu included options like 'Lotus Root Udon' for 550 yen, which came with various side dishes like okara, hijiki, and kimpira gobou. I ordered the lotus root udon and was surprised by the generous portion of tempura. The broth was delicious with a hint of acidity and deep umami flavor. The noodles were slightly thin, with a good chewy texture. The lotus root tempura was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal and understood why the restaurant was so popular. Personal rating on Tabelog: 4.3

On this day, I had to fast for a medical examination in the morning. After the examination was over and before my afternoon appointment, I had some time to spare, so I decided to have lunch at this udon restaurant that I had been curious about. When it comes to Hakata udon, tempura is a popular choice, but this place is known for its lotus root tempura udon. However, I felt a bit risky having fried food on an empty stomach, so I ordered Kitsune udon for 450 yen. By the way, you can upgrade to a large serving for free, although I didn't do that. In about 3 minutes, a cheerful waitress brought me the udon. Let's eat! The broth had a slight sweetness from bonito flakes and kelp. The udon noodles were not as thick as typical packaged udon, and they were soft (laughs). Surprisingly, there were two large pieces of fried tofu (like Donbei size) on top. When eaten, a sweet and savory broth spread in my mouth. It was quite satisfying, and I almost finished all the broth. It really warmed me up on such a cold day. Some other customers ordered lotus root tempura, and the waitress informed them that it would take some time to fry them fresh. I bet the freshly fried lotus root tempura must be delicious. I would like to try that next time! Thank you for the meal!

This is truly the udon prefecture! There are still many udon shops that I have yet to discover! Right outside the gate of Kyushu University Hospital, there is an udon shop! I visited after 1 pm, so there were some empty seats available. This place is called Kimuchi Tabeho! They offer free extra-large portions of udon! I ordered the chef's recommended "Niku Gobo Udon for 700 yen" and "Kashiwa Meshi for 150 yen". First, the Kashiwa Meshi arrived! The moist and flavorful Kashiwa Meshi contained chicken, burdock, and carrots. It was delicious, but the real star was the udon. The broth was amazing with a strong kombu flavor. The noodles were slightly thin and soft, but not overly mushy, with a nice chewy texture. The sliced burdock was just the right type, not too earthy. The beef was thinly sliced and expertly seasoned with light soy sauce and sugar, complementing the broth perfectly. The overall quality was outstanding! This shop may be popular in this area, but it is definitely a high-level udon shop in Fukuoka city as a whole. It was a fantastic bowl of udon!

I had a beef udon for ¥600 with lotus root tempura for ¥200. The freshly fried tempura was hot and delicious. It was thickly sliced, crispy, and very filling. The kitsune udon is ¥450, and the kashiwa rice is ¥150 with free extra servings, which is great. The kimchi is very spicy but also flavorful and very delicious. The udon noodles are soft, and the broth is sweet. The beef in the beef udon is sweet, so it adds to the overall sweetness, which I personally like. The kashiwa rice is just okay. It goes well with the kimchi.

I was active in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and around 9:00 PM, I started feeling hungry. I decided to take a break from my activities and looked for a restaurant where I could have dinner. I found a udon restaurant called "Udon Shu" near the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Office. The restaurant was open and there were already customers inside, but I was able to secure a seat, so I entered and sat at a table where chopsticks were already set. I ordered a dish from the menu and helped myself to some water. As I was sipping my water, a clay pot was placed on the table by the staff. I was curious about it, but it turned out to contain kimchi. I noticed a sign outside the store that said "All-you-can-eat kimchi," so I tried some. It was very spicy, like authentic Korean kimchi, so I ate it slowly. About 6 minutes after ordering, the "Chef's Recommended Menu" that I ordered, the "Meat and Burdock Udon for 700 yen," was served. It came with thin udon noodles, chopped green onions, thinly sliced burdock tempura, and meat diving into the broth. I sprinkled some shichimi pepper on top and tried the dish. The udon noodles were soft and chewy, and they paired well with the sweet broth. The burdock tempura had softened from soaking in the broth, and the tender, sweetened meat was also delicious. It was a very tasty meat and burdock udon dish.

Ordered the Vegetable Tempura Udon for 450 yen. This restaurant seems to be run by relatives of the Tempura Udon shop in Karasunincho. The style of having kimchi available is also similar. However, the Udon here is significantly more delicious than the one in Karasunincho! The broth is clear and has minimal impurities, and the noodles are soft but still soak up the delicious broth well. Even when adding kimchi, the soup holds its own presence. I will revisit to try the Lotus Root Tempura next time. It was delicious.

Sweet and gentle meat udon. I have been a customer since my student days, and the meat is seasoned with a nice sweetness that perfectly complements the udon broth, creating a very satisfying taste. The unlimited kimchi also pairs well with the udon. I hope this place continues to operate for a long time.
