It was a sunny Saturday with a refreshing breeze. I went to a clinic south of Nihonbashi to pick up some medicine. Then it was lunchtime. I strolled down a nearby Asian-themed alley, filled with cafes and shops, exuding a nostalgic and almost dreamlike atmosphere. In that area, I suddenly spotted Asa-Chan, a famous restaurant known for its mega-sized meals. I hesitated about whether to go in or not. Lately, I've been having breakfast at a café called Asaba near Nagahoribashi on weekends. It's just a boiled egg and a slice of toast, and it had only been about an hour since then. The idea of diving into Asa-Chan, known for its mega-sized meals, with my current stomach condition made me hesitate. I decided to leave and come back next time. However, I thought it must be fate, so I changed my mind and returned to the restaurant. And I went in. The entrance was covered with a variety of menu options, making it hard to believe it was a food establishment without them. I gathered my courage and entered. Inside, there were simple, old-fashioned chairs and tables. There were two customers already seated. I placed my belongings on a seat near the entrance. Then, a woman who seemed to be the owner called out from what looked like the kitchen window, "Come over here for your order!" I approached the window. They had set up plastic sheets for COVID-19 precautions, and there was a sign saying "Self-service" on cardboard paper. I received an explanation of the menu options while looking at the menu. The menu offered various individual items such as hamburger, white fish fry, chicken karaage, tonkatsu, pork ginger, shrimp fry, and grilled meat. There were also set meals with different combinations. The rice portion could be chosen from mini, small, medium, to large, with the smallest being 200g, which relieved me. The top-tier set meal was the Asa-Chan set meal for 1,020 yen, featuring rolled omelet, hamburger, white fish fry, chicken karaage, sausage, and fried dumplings. After considering, I ordered the Triple Set Meal, which included hamburger, rolled omelet, and white fish fry, as the name suggests. I chose the smallest rice portion, the mini size. They handed me a strange wooden tag as my order number. I waited for a while, and when my food was ready, I was called to pick it up. It was a bento-style setup with partitions. It reminded me of having lunch at a business trip. There was a large amount of shredded cabbage on the left, a big hamburger with ketchup on the right, triangular-cut rolled omelet and fish fry in the bottom-right section, a small section with mayonnaise, and rice in the bottom-left. There was also a canned tea. I returned to my seat and started eating. I first enjoyed the cabbage, then the crispy white fish fry, which went well with mayonnaise. Next was the hamburger, which had a satisfying taste with ketchup. I savored the hot rice. And the rolled omelet, it was incredibly smooth and had a fine texture. It was a delicious and filling meal, and I was surprised by the quality of the food. Although I was intimidated by the portion size, I managed to finish it all. It turned out to be a great find, unexpectedly, and I had a satisfying lunch. Thank you for the meal.
