Last year, a restaurant relocated from Chiyoda Town in Saga Prefecture to the countryside of Shimotomiku, Chikugo City. I had heard rumors that a restaurant was opening in Chikugo City, but I was surprised to find out that it was Nohohon-san who had moved. It's good for sparsely populated areas to have a restaurant with a home attached. Chikugo City, especially towards the west from the Kagoshima Main Line, has few dining options, but unique places like Cafe Chanson are starting to increase. When I arrived just before noon, it was already packed as expected. Luckily, there was one table available, so I managed to slide in. The interior of the restaurant, mainly in white, is a bit cramped with tables lined up closely. Most of the customers were women, and the few men seemed a bit out of place. For lunch that day, I had the Nohohon Lunch. The Nohohon Lunch consisted of an appetizer plate with 8 items: salad, sun-dried fish, simmered eggplant, nanban-zuke, broccoli, chicken nanban-style, quiche, pickled turnip, and konjac salad, among others. Although there were many items, the taste was average. For the main course, there was a choice between seared beef sagari, fish sauté, and handmade vegetable croquette. I chose the fish, while my friend ordered the beef sagari. The sagari was overcooked, making the meat dry, and the sauce was too strong. The fish was miso-marinated mackerel. The watercress garnish was unnecessary! We also had a tasting of Goto tofu, a tofu made with milk from Arita, Saga Prefecture, and added arrowroot. The tofu had a nice firm texture. The tempura batter was a bit hard! There was also rosemary for some reason. The Goto tofu salad had lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and Goto tofu. The watercress and seaweed were unnecessary! For the soup, there was a light daikon and carrot soup. The rice options were tororo gohan, miso soup, and tororo gohan with a special egg topping. I chose the tororo gohan with mixed grain rice as I'm not a fan of raw egg over rice. The mixed grain rice alone showcased the deliciousness of the rice, but... The oven-baked yam was like a yam okonomiyaki. The sauce was very rich. For the handmade dessert, the whipped cream wasn't good, but think of the cake as a bonus. For drinks, there was yuzu tea, coffee, and juice, but they were just average. Overall, my impression was... slow~~ During the busy lunch hour, with the kitchen staff of one, a server doubling as a cook, and another server, they couldn't keep up. Waiting 5-10 minutes between each dish is unacceptable. Oh well, that's the Nohohon way. Let's enjoy a leisurely meal and chat! Thank you for the meal (*^。^*)
