Opened in the summer of 2016, this casual Chinese restaurant in Ropponmatsu specializes in champon noodles. The area has lost its liveliness since Kyushu University closed down, and many shops have come and gone. Just a while ago, there was a ramen shop in this same spot. Interestingly, there is another champon restaurant right across the street, creating a fierce competition. The restaurant has about 10 seats at the counter and one table, with a narrow and elongated interior. The elderly owner runs the place alone, so it may take some time for your order to be served when it gets busy. The menu features various champon dishes like Hakata-style champon, roasted pork champon, and curry champon, along with some creative options. In the evening, they also offer Chinese side dishes. I ordered the roasted pork champon and sweet and sour pork with black vinegar. First, the soup. It was surprisingly delicious, with a blend of pork bone and chicken broth that was both light and flavorful. I couldn't help but finish the soup quickly. The ingredients included cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, onions, wood ear mushrooms, pork, squid, and fish cake. The stir-fried vegetables had a nice crunch to them. The portion of ingredients was quite generous. The noodles were thick and chewy, providing a satisfying texture. The roasted pork champon had five slices of charred pork on top, adding a sweet and tender touch. As for the sweet and sour pork, it had a strong vinegar aroma from the start. The dish had deep-fried pork, onions, and asparagus, but it felt a bit lacking as a main dish. It would be better as a side dish or a snack with drinks. The casual and welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to stop by alone, and I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.
